Retired Pirates Revision Act

Retired Pirate Revision Act

We the citizens of Egypt request changes to the Retired Pirates Test due to the early retirement of some of Egypt's denizens.

We request that any crewmember that does not vote at the end of the two day distribution period will be made to walk the plank. After which time the captain will have the opprotunity to redistribute the dubloons and allow the remaining crew to vote on the new distribution.

This revision has become neccesary to allow citizens to receive points for this test. Egypt will continue to have citizens that although they have paid accounts no longer play. If the test is allowed to continue in it's current fashion points will likely be impossible to obtain in the future.

LONG LIVE PHAROAH!!

Um, as the test doesn't require everyone in the group to vote before the gold is distributed, this could potentially screw over some people. (I'm a regular player who once had a group finish on her between logins -- I was logged out for only 10 hours) Also, this makes the test easier, which means this would probably get a test veto from Teppy anyways.

The reason for this revision is that the test currently requires more than half of the crew to vote. If more than half of the crew no longer plays then the group is disbanded without distribution.

I understand your thinking behind the revision. I am just pointing out it's pitfalls.

Out of curiosity, have you tried stating your case in a devcall and seeing what he has to say about it? He might be willing to work on it without making you go through the petitioning process if you can convince him that it's really a problem. Or, if he makes you go though with the petition anyway, maybe he'll give you an idea of the best way to present it to ensure it won't be vetoed.

That's a very good idea. I will put in a dev call today.

I suspect this won't pass by teppy unless you reword it to indicate that it only takes effect if the voting period _expires_ (i.e. if you don't get four yes votes in that time). As written, it could imply that the voting round must last the full two days, since that's the only way you'd be able to know which players did not vote. That could not only significantly change some of the strategies, but introduce other annoyances if you _do_ have four active players who want to finish the round quickly but now have to wait.

If you end up rewriting it to make that point clearer, perhaps you could also indicate a change that would help boot missing Captains. I've been in a couple of rounds where the captain had logged in relatively recently before the round, so someone else built the ship when it looked as if the captain wasn't going to be on again in the initial 24 hours. Unfortunately we then discovered that the captain actually had just gone AWOL, and we sat around waiting for seven days. We couldn't force the captain out, we couldn't quit the round so we could be in another one, etc. Once the seven days were up, the captain walked the plank and we were able to proceed, but it was a pretty annoying length of time. I don't know whether it would be better to shorted the time from seven days to three or so, or give the crew a mechanism for booting the captain, but something would be nice.
