Slate is a type of stone picked up from the ground. It is especially crucial to new players working toward Citizenship, but it is also used in more advanced buildings and activities, such as prospecting for marble.

Source
Slate is found randomly near water. If you are close enough to water to be able to gather water and mud, then you also have a chance of finding slate. You'll know you're standing on some when the slate action icon appears in the corner of your screen.

Whenever you gather slate, another piece respawns nearby, sometimes right on the spot where you're standing. A random location within approximately a 3x3 square of your position is picked; if the random square is a valid position for slate, a new piece is placed there. This is why sometimes you will get more than one slate in a row.

After manually gathering 1000 slate, you will gain the option to accumulate it automatically as an offline chore.
About me
Hey everyone! My name is LuigiNumber1. I've been playing ATITD on and off since Tale II. My current compound is in River Plains, on the west side of the Nile, just south of SHarm. My previous compound was between SHarm and UThought, but it was DPA'd >:(. Usually, if I'm not working on tests or gathering resources, I like to solve puzzles, cut gems, acro, fish, and maintain livestock (but am really bad at it :P).

In the real world, I'm a high school junior majoring in computer science. I like ancient mythology, Minecraft, Nintendo, Homestuck, and board games. I try to hide references to Homestuck in things that I do, if you find any (and get them) /chat me!

Trading
I want to buy:
*Lens amethysts
*50 each of any shade of red, green, blue, and yellow raeli tiles
*Sheet glass
I have for trade:
*Charcoal
*Metals and alloys
*Cuttable gems
*Flax products

Wiki editing
As a member of the Disciples of Hypatia, I routinely go around the wiki in search of articles that need creating or improving. This page documents all the changes I make to the wiki.

About me
Hey everyone!

Currently working on:
*Test of the Darkest Night
*Principles for Test of the Safari
*Principles for Test of the Venery (making my own venery)
*Principles for Test of Life
**Demonstrated by Saledo at the Seven Lakes University of Thought on February 19th 2012

Passing Principles
Complete and collect 3x Venery Certificates.
Show them to any School of Thought. (Note - last step does not seem to be necessary. I leveled up at Venery Gathering Point after getting third Venery Certificate - Estaar)

Creating a Venery
What you need
For Simple Lockboxes Made in the Student or Master Forges

* 7 Eyelet cut Amethyst
* 7 Eyelet cut Lapis
* 7 Eyelet cut Turquoise
* 7 Eyelet cut Garnet
* 7 Fine Glass Rods
* 7 Gold Wire
* 7 Copper
* 14 Small Gears

This will give you 7 Simple Lockboxes.

For Venery Gathering Point

* 100 Boards
* 250 Papyrus Paper

Built in a Small Construction Site.

Installing Lockboxes
You need to select 'Configure This Venery' at the Venery gathering point before you start installing lockboxes. Then you can install keys and lockboxes anywhere you like.

Note - make sure that Options > Interface> Tests > "show menu items for venery configuration" is checked, or you will not get the option to install the Locboxes! - Minerva

Creating Clues
A venery should be fun to do. Many egyptians get frustrated with the very hard ones and will tend to quit the venery.
Make sure your clues are precise and not to hard to decipher.
Always keep in mind that people will be voting on this so if you want to pass it needs to be finely balanced between easy and hard.
Some people in previous tales built chests and placed rewards in them for others to collect. However you do it is up to you.
Some people will also have an answer sheet attached to their wiki page.
Remember Just Have Fun.

For more on how to design a Venery see<b> Dreasimy's Guide to Creating a Venery!</b>

The discipline of Art and Music tests your ability to create pieces of art that are pleasing to the eyes and ears. The tests of Art and Music involve creating works of art and having them judged by fellow Egyptians.

Benefit
Passing Art tests allows a blacksmith to add a small number of quality points to everything they make. The bonus is applied when the object is removed from the anvil.

The bonus has been calculated by rwindmtg as follows:

boost=(9999-qual)*((0.02*rank)+0.002)

For example, a Master of Art will add 102 points to a 9001 quality hatchet, for a final quality of 9103.
About me
Hey everyone!

*Eyelet amethyst, lapis, turquoise, garnet
*Lens amethysts
*50 each of any shade of red, green, blue, and yellow raeli tiles
*2 silk cloth for plantation
*Sheet glass
I have for trade:
*Charcoal
*Metals and alloys
*Cuttable gems
*Flax products

Wiki editing
As a member of the Disciples of Hypatia, I routinely go around the wiki in search of articles that need creating or improving. This page documents all the changes I make to the wiki.
*Test of the Darkest Night

LuigiNumber1: /* About Moss */

About Moss
Moss is found on Aqueduct Towers. Moss is used for various Research, but also used in Chemistry and Mutagenics.

100 Fuzzy Moss is needed for Plantation Headquarters. (Can be any type of moss with "fuzzy" in the name.)

Moss Growth
After a tower has been harvested of moss, it has 0 moss on it for a few minutes. It will slowly produce Moss at an unknown rate until it reachest 49, then it stops. The rate at which new moss grows is believed to be slower from 21 to 22 than from 1 to 2.

Moss Harvesting
To harvest moss off of a tower, click on the tower and select "Harvest the moss." Harvesting moss does not reset the moss attributes back to green. The moss that grows back from a freshly harvested tower retains all the properties of the just-harvested moss (unless a blessing has altered the stats)

Types
Moss can have any of the following attributes:
* Calico
* Crackly
* Dry
* Fuzzy
* Green
* Hairy
* Mottled
* Phosphorescent
* Prickly
* Reticulated
* Slimy
* Smelly
* Spongy
* Spotted
* Striped

A moss can have no attributes, and it is then "common" moss, and is not harvestable.

Changing Moss Stats
Note: a great deal is still unknown about how the moss system works exactly. Please update this page as more becomes known.

All towers begin with the stat "Green", which can be changed when someone blesses an aqueduct. You can bless an aqueduct as much as you want, but attributes will only be affected once every 5 teppy minutes. When someone blesses a tower, they can add and/or remove one or more attributes.

The effect on moss attributes is avatar specific, not tower specific. When blessing aqueducts, it is helpful to track your changes to understand what your effect is. It is possible to add and remove the same attribute.

Repeated blessings (five minutes apart) by the same avatar may show additional attributes after many blessings.

Avatar Moss Chart
This is a chart to show which avatars affect the various moss attributes. Please add your information below. + means you've ever added that attribute, - you have never added that attribute and have removed it at least once, ? you've never added or removed the attribute. b if you have both added and removed the attribute.
* Seiun - Not sure but seems that there is some power thing related to each stats. Always the same substraction whas done quick and then the other. Must try some common moss and see if it always come in the same order
* Talos - Where is the Common column?
** Common Moss is the base moss and can not be added or subtracted - Darkfyre
* Darkfyre - Has anyone tested their add/remove on specific skill bonus towers? Just wondering if you only add/remove certain attributes from certain skill bonus towers. (Trying to think like Teppy)
* Solaris - I suspect moss changes are a lot more complicated, seems to be dependent on what kind of moss is already there.
* Aperio - I'm a latecomer to moss growing (though I've done some mutagen work in T3). Has anybody explored the possibility that avatars CONVERT attributes in addition to or instead of ADD/SUBTRACT? I'm drawing upon the thistle simulator but it seem reasonable that if there's still an unknown mechanism after all these Tales, this might be a hypothesis to try.
* merek - Starting with some indeterminate state of common moss, I blessed it a total of 14 times and ended up at the end with Calico, Fuzzy, Hairy, Reticulated, Spongy, Striped. The final attribute (Hairy) wasn't added until the 13th blessing. I suggest that each blessing adds a fraction of an attribute and after the fractions add up to a certain number, the attribute becomes visible.

Moss Research
Currently, Orchid is collecting a lot of data to try to better understand how moss characteristics work.
:She needs MORE data, and YOU can help!

<br> Helping just takes about an hour of your time. Simply go to a tower that has either a Green moss only, or a common moss. (usually a tower towards the end of an aquaduct line). (The goal is to find a tower that has not been blessed much).
:Open a chat tab with Orchid. Chat her the location of the tower, what stat it boosts, and the original state of the moss.
:Then, bless the tower, and chat her the changes, if any.
:Continue blessing every five minutes, and chat any changes to her.
:A minimum of 10 blessings is asked for, but the more blessings the better. Sometimes characteristics only show up after many blessings.

An example of the chat would look like this:
:Example of chat:
:Avanya[15m] Starting moss is Green. Tower is at 2182, 2666, the mid-RP aquaduct. Tower boosts End.
:Avanya[15m] blessed - no change.
:Avanya[10m] blessed - no change.
:Avanya[5m] blessed - added Crackly! moss is now Green, Crackly.
:Avanya [0m] blessed - removed Green! moss is now Crackly.

The hope is that if enough data from different avatars is gathered, we may be able to simulate or figure out how the moss attributes change.

Thanks for your help!

Overview
In the Test of the Oyster Catcher, you are to make a necklace from 14 pearls of varying sizes. Pearls can be obtained by swimming into water, finding a set of bubbles (which represent oysters), and then solving a small puzzle which will "catch" the oyster. Once you have your pearls, you must set them in the correct order to make your necklace.

Swimming
Upon signing up for the test, you learn how to swim!
* You enter the water by walking straight up to it.
* Swimming is done similarly to running in that left-clicking somewhere will swim you there (but right-clicking won't stop you). Terrain steepness is a factor in determining where you can and cannot move. If you're swimming in rivers or lakes, this should not be a big deal. However, this means you can't go too far out into the Red Sea or Mediterranean Sea.
* To get out of the water, click on dry land, or select the Stop Swimming option from your Special menu. Be careful: it is possible to leave the water in places where you can't get back in.
* To Dive: RIGHT CLICK on the water where you wish to dive

Finding an Oyster Bed
You must have "Fountain Detail" in your graphics options turned on to see the bubbles (Self >> Options >> Video).
Any setting above minimum will do, though the higher the setting, the brighter the bubbles.

An oyster bed will be visible from land. However, the visibility range is not that good - only 10-15 coords, and they are perhaps 5 coords out from land, meaning you need to be pretty close and right along the shoreline.

It appears that any given location yields pearls of different sizes, but of the same color. Most colors appear to cluster, with some colors only known to appear in particular regions. See the Pearl Bed Locations page for a listing of beds found and colors of pearls retrieved from them.

Oyster beds are represented by a grid of bubbles that can be of multiple colors (blue, green, white, plus off). Beds that give larger pearls are set on a larger grid and have more colors.
* Small pearls come from 5x5 grids of blue.
* Medium pearls come from 6x6 grids of blue, and in addition, the square you dive on does not toggle.
* Large pearls come from 6x6 grids which appear as blue and green - they toggle through a cycle of blue, green, and off as you dive.
* Huge pearls come from 6x6 grids which appear as blue, green and white.

Oyster beds occasionally appear on top of each other. Once you start diving, all but one of the beds will disappear. In some of these cases, the bed may behave oddly, with some bubbles "staying off" or "staying on" unexpectedly. It is unknown if these circumstances have any other effect. If two appear almost touching, diving in one will make the other disappear.

Solving the Bed
In order to retrieve the pearl from the oyster bed, you must get rid of all the bubbles in the grid. This puzzle is similar to the game Lights Out, in that you are given a grid of bubbles that are either "on" or "off" and you must turn them all off.

Grid spots are toggled by diving.
* For medium size grids, diving on a spot will toggle all the orthogonal spots around it, but not the one where you actually dove.
* For all other size grids, diving on a spot will toggle that spot and all orthogonal spots around it.
* Each spot will cycle through its possible states (off plus each possible color for that grid size) in order as it is toggled.

Once all the spots are off, you will receive a pearl and 7 deben of oyster meat.

A bed will reset if left still for about two minutes. In addition, beds do despawn, so you won't be able to sit at a bed for hours on end trying to solve them.

Setting Pearls in the Necklace
In order to pass the test, you need to fit these pearls retrieved together and form a necklace.

A complete necklace will require:
* 7 small pearls
* 4 medium pearls
* 2 large pearls
* 1 huge pearl

There is a numbered slot for each pearl of these sizes (small position 1, small position 2, etc.).

Each slot requires a pearl of a specific color, with the exception of the Huge (which can be any color). You do not know what colors are needed for each pearl initially. How you determine this is by fitting a pearl into the necklace, then showing it off to the instructors at a School or University of Body. They will report to you the number of correct colors and and number of correct positions for each size. (This is similar to the old board game Mastermind.)

If you inserted a pearl in the wrong slot, you can remove it through the test menu. There is a chance of breaking the pearl, with a higher focus giving you a better chance to keep it intact.
* At 0 focus the pearl will ALWAYS break.
* At 13 focus, a reported 50% chance of successful removal
* At 22 focus, I lost 1 pearl in 11 removals - TheMazeEcho
The chance of removal without breakage seems to be:

:Chance of intact removal = Foc/27

You may remove pearls that are placed in the right slot, but this is probably not something you want to do.

Strategically, given that colors seems roughly indexed to regions, you will save time if you begin inserting pearls as you find them (checking at an SBody or UBody with each insertion, of course). For example, if you get 0 correct colors off a single small white pearl, you know to curtail your searching in Northern Sinai. If you get 1 for 1, keep going after them; you don't know how many you need until you hit X for X+1. You cannot trade pearls, so once you know a pearl is useless to you, remove it, even if it breaks. Make a batch of focus food only once you have filled the necklace with right color / wrong location pearls.

Admiring a Pearl
When you have a pearl in inventory, you can admire it under "Tests->Test of the Oyster Catcher->Admire". You will get a screen showing where the pearl was found and by whom.

When you have more than one pearl of the same color and size in your inventory, attempting to admire any of them will only look at the first one. You have to put the rest down or in a chest and look at them one at a time.

Advancement
As you insert pearls into their correct positions, your Endurance attribute will rise. The formula for Endurance gain seems to be:

:Endurance gain = (3 + 7*(Huge + Large/2 + Medium/4) + Small)/4

Overview
Metal items shaped on an Anvil, and glass items shaped in a Glory Hole, are individually crafted. Once completed, each item is unique and bears a quality rating from 1 to 9999, reflecting how closely the item was worked to an "ideal" shape for that type. Quality is listed as part of the description for an item.

For some items, a higher quality improves their performance, output and/or longevity. In other cases, a building may require a minimum quality for the items used in its construction.

Metal Items
Every item finished on an Anvil has a quality rating based on how closely it conforms to the goal template. See the Blacksmithing Guide for tips on maximizing the quality of your anvil products.

* Carpentry Blade: A minimum quality of 3000 is needed to be usable in a Carpentry Shop; higher quality blades can cut more boards (on average) before wearing out. A Raeli Mosaic requires a blade of quality 3500 or better.
* Shovel: Better quality shovels increase the amount of dirt gathered, and at digs are better at bringing cuttable stones, medium stones, bauxite and gypsum to the surface.
* Hatchet: Better quality hatchets are more likely to increase the yield of wood from a tree.
* Resin Wedge: The quality of the wedge governs how quickly a tree produces resin after being nicked.
* Sharp Edged Knife Blade: This item must be quality 8500 or better to be usable.
* Spring: The speed increase of an upgraded machine is based on the quality of spring used in the springbox.

Glass Items
Items formed in a Glory Hole have a quality rating based on how closely they conform to the goal template. For strategies, see the Glassblowing Guide.

* Wine Glass: A higher quality glass increases the maximum tier of wine flavor that can be tasted in that glass. See the Detecting Flavors section for more details.
* Thermometer: Finished thermometers have no quality rating. However, while working the project, quality must be at least 3500 to successfully complete.
* Distillation Coil: A Mutagenics Lab requires a coil of quality 6000 or better. Coils used to build a Chemical Bath must be at least 7500. Better quality coils also improve the functionality of an upgraded Chemistry Laboratory.
* Hookah Bowl: The higher the quality of the bowl, the more puffs can be taken from the Hookah before the herb runs out. This is especially helpful when a large number of smokers are sharing the hookah.
* Barometric Sphere: See below.

A barometer has a quality rating which derives from the relative quality of the 3 barometric spheres used to assemble it. For maximum barometer quality, each sphere must individually be of high quality, and all three spheres must be similar in quality to one another.

Wine on the Vine
Vine Cuttings
Vine cuttings can be obtained from the University of Worship in regions that have unlocked Viticulture.

You must pay 1 Tilapia Fish Meat for a cutting.
* A new cutting becomes available about every hour. Unclaimed cuttings will be stored.
* It is possible for the university to be out of cuttings when you ask for one, if a lot of people have recently taken one. You still lose your fish, however.

Vine cuttings may also be taken from your vineyard every two hours whether you tend or not. It may be easier to get a cutting from another player than from a University.

Once you have a cutting, you may Plant it on the vineyard. Once planted the vine appears. Clicking on the vineyard again will reveal the starting stats for that vine including the number of grapes.

Vine Attributes
Each vine has seven statistics that are affected by your tending methods. For each type of gene set within a genome it adds another range of -3 to +4 to the initial range of -3 to +4 without that particular gene set. The tend tables reflect this range according to the number of particular gene sets within the vine genome. Example: One color gene set within a vine genome would affect the color value by a range of -6 to +8 depending on the tend. Two color gene sets would affect the color value by a range of -9 to +12 and so on.
Know the goals for your wines to know your tends
Each combination of vineyard state and tending method will make a specific set of changes to the value of the seven vine attributes. Your 'tend' will change each statistic either positively or negatively.

:For example, with a Balance vine if you "aerate" a "sagging" vineyard you will see:<br>
:Acid -1, Color (X), Grapes -5, Quality +6, Skin +5, Sugar (X), Vigor -12.

Tending tables show the progression of changes to state/tend and method/vine combinations. The change in stat numbers for a particular tend from one state/tend method/vine combination remain the same. These sets of progressions change each tale.

Know your goals for the wine to know what tends you want. The suggestions below will help direct your tending:
* If acid is too low, older vintages may end up losing their flavour.
* Higher grapes count make more bottles of wine.
* If wine quality is too low, top tier flavors (see below) may not be revealed. Zero quality wines will always be "thin" with no detectable flavors.
* Higher sugar allows higher alcohol levels in the barrel. Thus, if you plan to bottle the wine as "grape juice" (alcohol 0%) for flavor testing, you do not need to worry about ensuring sufficient sugar in the grapes. Alcohol also plays a part in the longevity of the wine while it is bottled.
* There are two reasons vines die. If vigor reaches 0 or below or grapes go to 0 the vine will die.

Harvesting
Some vintners will continue tending until vigor is as low as possible (i.e. there is no tend available that won't kill the vine). Others may choose to tend until vigor reaches a certain range (e.g. in the 50s, etc.), in order to cycle through harvests more quickly.

In either case, once you Harvest the Grapes, they will be placed in your inventory (sequentially numbered by how many harvests you have done). They will remain fresh for 2 teppy days (in inventory, storage or an unsealed barrel). After that, they will spoil and cannot be used.

Harvested grapes appear scattered in your inventory, The Tending Qualities is one tested theory.

Notes:
* You may check harvest information on your grapes at any time by holding them in your inventory, and using the Self -> Special -> Examine Grapes menu.
* It is a good idea to check the "confirm harvest" option in your interface controls, to prevent mis-clicks while tending or taking vine cuttings.

Wine in the Barrel
Filling/Sealing
To use a Wine Barrel you must have grapes in your inventory.
* 21 grapes makes 1 bottle of wine. (Remainders will be lost, but may be used to affect the wine stats.)
* Crush the grapes and seal the barrel after loading your grapes into the barrel. This requires one Barrel Tap in your Items inventory.
* You will be asked to name the vintage of wine. This name will be carried through to the bottled wine. You may rename the wine while still in the barrel. This requires 1 Quill, 1 Papyrus Paper and 1 Ink. The Quill is not consumed by the process.
* Once the barrel is sealed, the grapes will begin to ferment into wine.

Barrel Attributes
You may Siphon a sample of the wine at any time to check its progress, without affecting the wine.
* Alcohol levels rise as residual sugar is converted over time.
* Residual Sugar = Grape Sugar/2
* Tannin conversion rates are determined by Color*Skin.
* Acid is equal to Grape Acid/10 and will not change during fermentation.

Possible wine hues shown in the barrel:
* White
* Rose
* Light Red
* Red
* Dark Red
* Purple-Red
* Purple
* Deep Purple

Tannin
Tannin is developed in wine from three characteristics in the formula below:
*C is the Colour value
*K is the Skin value
*ETD or the amount of egypt time the wine is in the barrel

T is the amount of tannin

Alternate formula:
T=C*K/100*(1-2^(-ETD/21))

The maximum tannin possible is the colour value multiplied by the skin value divided by 100. Try to keep Skin and Colour values balanced as you tend. Having wine with a skin value of 300 but a colour value of 10 will only yield 30 tannin. But if you could <i>magically</i> take 100 points from skin and put them into colour the maximum tannin jumps to 220 (110 X 200 / 100).

After 21 Egypt days (approximately a RL week) the wine in the barrel will have developed half its maximum tannin. If you can wait another 21 Egypt days that value will rise to 75% of maximum.

Fermentation
As the grapes sit in the sealed barrel, they will slowly ferment (convert sugar into alcohol).
* Each 0.1% of Residual Sugar that ferments equals .2% alcohol (eventually).
* Fermentation rates are determined by initial Residual Sugar. Higher sugar grapes will show a more rapid initial rise in alcohol %, but the curve will slow after 10% (such that both low and high sugar grapes will reach 12% in about the same time).
* The minimum amount of time for any wine barrel to reach 12% alcohol is about a RL week. (13% wines will take about one RL month, and 14% wines take about 3 RL months.)
* In order to reach 12% alcohol, you need at least 6% Residual Sugar, or a Sugar score on your grapes of 12.

Note: There appears to be some rounding of these numbers that may affect whether they meet wine notebook requirements. Thus, if trying for a 12% alcohol wine, it is safest to bottle the wine when alcohol = 12.1%.

Bottling
When the wine has fermented sufficiently you may bottle it.
* 21 grapes = 1 bottle. Have enough Empty Wine Bottles in inventory for the number of grapes in the barrel.
* The wine name is the same as the barrel from which it came.
* The vintage of the wine will be set by the current Egypt vintage.
* Bottled wine may be stored, given, traded, dropped etc. as any other portable item.

Wine in the Bottle
Understanding Vintages
Vintage 0 begins in Akhet I of the first year of the telling. A new vintage happens on the first of every game month (about every 10-11 days in RL time).
* The current vintage in Egypt is shown when you siphon a taste from a barrel.
* The wine's vintage is only locked-in AFTER it is bottled. The 'age' of the wine is the difference between the wine vintage at bottling and the current Egypt vintage. So immediately after bottling the wine is only 0 vintages old.
** This age of the wine is used to satisfy wine notebook requirements (e.g. "wine at least 3 vintages old").
** Wine age also plays a role in which flavors can be detected (see below).
* The higher the vintage number on a bottle of wine, the younger the wine is.

Using the Table
A bottle of wine may be opened at a Ceremonial Tasting Table and gives seven glasses of wine. To drink, click on a wine glass on the table, fill it, and then drink.

You will receive a pop-up showing the results of your tasting and any wine notebook or palate points earned.

The table can be cleared to allow another bottle to be opened. This can be done even if there is wine left in the bottle or in a glass. The empty wine bottle will be stored in the table and can be taken (if the player has permission).

Understanding Flavors
Each vineyard will have a specific set of flavors that it will imbue in its grapes. These flavors will be revealed in the wine based on a combination of vineyard location, wine age and quality, wine glass quality, and your own palate ability.

Vineyard Flavors
* Each vineyard can have from zero to 5 (highest amount known) flavors. Flavor areas in the soil overlap each other thus making possible more than one or no flavors in a single vineyard.
* Wines with grapes from more than one vineyard can show up to 7(?) flavors total.
* Each flavor has three "tiers," somewhat akin to category, subcategory and specific flavor. For example: Fruit > Tree Fruit > Peach.
* Each of these tiers can count as a different flavor for the wine notebooks, the first time they are tasted.
* Each flavor appears in the wine at a specific age of the wine. If the wine has not aged sufficiently to reveal at least one flavor, it will present as "thin." For example:
** Peach can be detected as soon as the wine is bottled (age 0 vintages), but Apricot cannot be tasted til the wine is at least 1 vintage old.
** A wine with both Peach and Apricot flavors will show Peach at age 0 and both at age 1.
* See the Known Flavors table.
* Wines low in acid and alcohol will eventually lose their flavour the longer they are kept (the exact formula for determining the life of the wine is unknown.)
* See the page elaborating on the Flavor Theory.

Detecting Flavors
* The quality of the wine glass will determine the maximum tier of flavor that can be detected. For example, a wine drunk from a low quality glass may only reveal the Fruit or Tree Fruit flavor tier, while the same wine from a higher quality glass may present as Peach.
* Your "palate" for wine will also affect your ability to detect more flavors.
** You may occasionally receive a notice that your palate has improved after drinking a wine. Your current palate level is not recorded anywhere, so take notes if you want to keep track.
** With no or low palate, you may not be able to detect the third tier of some flavors even in a high quality glass.
** With no or low palate, more subtle flavors may be masked by stronger ones.
* The quality of wine will also affect the ability to detect all three tiers for some flavors, or reveal them in the face of stronger flavors.

Other Wine Attributes
A wine will also have a flavor intensity, quality, and sweetness. Each of these may change at each vintage (wine age) change. (Listed from high to low below.)
{| border="1" cellpadding="5"
