Vegetable seeds (used, obviously, to grow vegetables) are available to paid accounts at any University of Worship where Agriculture is researched (which is now all of them). Trial accounts can only obtain seeds from other players.

Each different University of Worship will offer 4 vegetable seeds of a random basic variety (Cabbage, Carrots, Garlic, Leeks, or Onions). A player can only obtain this gift once at each University.

Pepper seeds were introduced to Egypt during an event; they are only available from other players.

Vegetable seeds are required to grow vegetables.

Growing Vegetables

When on the appropriate type of ground (Grass, Sand or Dirt) and whilst there is a seed in your inventory, a Plant... menu will appear on the Self menu. Selecting the Plant menu, then the desired seed, will plant the vegetable seed.

Initial Seeds

Each University that has opened the research Agriculture will offer each paid avatar four seeds (of the same kind) from one of the five vegetables Cabbage, Carrot, Garlic, Leeks and Onions.

Eggplant, Peppers and Watermelons seeds are only granted during special events.

Reproduction

In general, and unlike flax, growing vegetables will leave you with exactly as many seeds as when you started. Successfully harvesting a vegetable will give you your seed back, and killing a vegetable plant (either through lack of water or overwatering) will leave a seed behind on the ground. You need never worry about running out of vegetable seeds (as long as you don't leave them on the ground and walk away), though of course you can only work as many simultaneous beds as you have seeds.

Reproducing vegetable seeds -- getting more seeds back from a harvest -- is a continuing puzzle. The method is different for each vegetable, and always changes from Tale to Tale. Discussion of vegetable seed reproduction can be found on the Vegetables page.

Cabbage

  • Method of Reproduction: Two players who have passed the Test of Mentorship growing cabbage close to each other will each harvest 8 seeds.

Carrot

  • Method of Reproduction: Unknown
The following hint have been provided by Apophis:
  • The secret to carrots lies with other vegetables. (Screenshot)

The following things did not work:

  • Harvesting carrots while the other 4 basic veggies were growing adjacent
  • Harvesting carrots while all the other veggies were growing adjacent

Eggplant

  • Method of Reproduction: Unknown

Garlic

  • Method of Reproduction: Unknown
The following hints have been provided by Apophis:
  • To make garlic seeds, you must work with your spouse.
  • You work as a team, but separately.
  • Any more info and I will be giving it away.

The following things did not work:

  • Planting and watering garlic, having spouse harvest it
  • Planting garlic, having spouse water it, then harvesting it myself
  • Planting garlic, having spouse water it and harvest it
  • Planting, watering, and harvesting garlic at the same time in different regions (RP and LoR)
  • Planting and watering garlic, then having spouse spousewarp to me and harvesting the garlic
  • Alternating Planting/Watering/Harvesting steps with spouse
  • Both of us growing our own garlic next to each other
  • Having your spouse give you water in jugs after you plant the garlic, and watering with those jugs
  • Growing my own garlic to harvest, then my spouse grows his own garlic to harvest

Leek

  • Method of Reproduction: Everyone has a magic species of fish. If you catch that type of fish and then grow leeks before catching any other fish, you'll produce an extra seed. If you keep fishing and catch other types of fish, you'll get a half yield the next time you grow leeks.
The following hints have been provided by Apophis:
  • Leeks involve fishing.

Onion

  • Method of Reproduction: Each avatar has a selected number of trees that, once harvested, will flag the avatar to have an extra seed on their next successful growing of Onions. It is possible to re-harvest trees to get another seed on the next successful growing of Onions.

Pepper

  • Method of Reproduction: Unknown

Watermelon

  • Method of Reproduction: You can grow a seed after cutting a bridge cut, any gem. cutting other gems afterwards doesn't spoil the effect. Optimal watering is not a factor for extra seed but it does show veggie production cut in half after cutting any gem as a hint.
