Restoration of Democracy

One of the greatest inventions of humans is the concept of elected officials. Elections are fundamentally different from Inherited systems such as monarchies or other variations where power is wielded by people based on birth, wealth or other aspects such as being a member of a particular group, club or technology.

Egypt has a hereditary Pharaoh. Our current Pharaoh is Pluribus. In the past it was Teppy. There have been battles for succession of the throne between siblings of the Old Pharaoh as part of past tale story lines. So the fundamental political landscape is that of a monarchy.

Our beneficent Pharaohs allow Egypt to elect a player selected from player base and to elevate them to the status of Demi-Pharaoh. Players undergo multiple selection rounds and a final vote by the active player base. Like all democratic processes voting can be influenced by the player in a variety of ways such as campaigning and gathering the promises of votes.

The power of the Demi-Pharaoh is absolute and cannot be revoked. Participation and selection of a player is a significant part of every tale.

Some tales back, Teppy-Pharaoh, enabled Ranged Voting. This enabled the player base to vote, not just 1 player as a winner but to rank all the players on the ballot according to their preference. Players can vote all for one and still vote a second or third (etc) choice. This gave players a way to influence the outcome without the "Winner Take All" / " Win / Lose" aspect of many RL voting systems.

Summary

In Tale 7, a law was proposed and passed that added a permanent option for "None of the Above" to every ballot. While it may have seemed a good idea at the time, in practice "None of the Above" reduced the options available to players and reduces the number of Demi-Pharaohs over all.

The law: Laws/None of the Above option on DP ballots by Kuu was passed by ballot and implemented by Pluribus-Pharaoh as directed by the law.

The by-product of this law was to deny qualified candidates from being elected to the position of Demi-Pharaoh as defined by the Test of the Demipharaoh. Demi Pharaoh Candidates pass through one or more preliminary rounds and unless unopposed in the final, face off in an Egypt wide voting contest. Players engage in debates and present their election platform to all of Egypt.

A by-product of the None of the Above law was that "None of the above" won election(s), determined the outcome of others and garnered significant votes via ranged voting. Ranged vote requires voting players to vote for EVERY candidates on the ballot by at least 1 tick mark. So even if players did not want to vote None of the Above they are required to vote 1 tick mark to have their ballot counted.

While the concept that None of the Above allowed players to indicate their displeasure of the ALL the finalists for DP the appropriate mechanism for challenging candidates is to participate in the Selection Rounds prior to the Voting.

This petition requests the complete repeal of the law: Laws/None of the Above option on DP ballots by Kuu returning democracy to the player base.

Proposed Text

It is hereby requested that Pharaoh repeal the law: Laws/None of the Above option on DP ballots by Kuu in all aspects and return the voting system to the methods and mechanics that were in effect prior to the that change.

Repeal the law: None of the Above option on DP ballots by Kuu

This is the law to be repealed:

None of the Above option on DP ballots by Kuu
The powers of the Demipharaoh are significant and citizens in Egypt may decide in an election that none of the available
candidates should possess them. Because of that, we propose that a "None of the above" option be added to ballots on the final round of the Test of the Demipharaoh. If "None of the above" wins the election, none of the candidates becomes Demi-Pharaoh (and herefore none of them pass the test).
This law should only apply after 5 Demipharaohs have been elected, except in elections where there is only one candidate on the final ballot.
