Test of the Excavator
Proposed test for the Discipline of the Human Body
Overview
This test would use existing art and materials already in A Tale in the Desert.
The object of this test is to find items which are found naturally in mines.
Demonstration
All gems must be found by the person attempting to demonstrate this test.
- 1 Huge Ruby
- 1 Huge Diamond
- 1 Huge Opal
- 1 Huge Topaz
- 1 Huge Emerald
- 1 Huge Sapphire
- 1 Huge Quartz
The Test
Each player would be required to mine from any type of mine one of the seven gem types in all sizes in each Egypt Month. Gems must be mined in the month the list was acquired. Gems mined prior to obtaining a list will not count toward passing the test. Failing to complete the list will cause the player to restart the list by visiting a University of the Human Body. Upon turning in the gems at University of the Human Body with all gems of the requested gem type in the players inventory, players will receive one of two flyaway messages:
- The scientists thank you for the gems. (This message is for the first 7)
- The scientists have all the gems they need.
Players who fail to complete the gem type will keep the gems. The first 7 to complete a list and return to a University of the Human Body (gems are removed from inventory) each month progresses to the next gem type. Successfully completed gem type will not be repeated.
Example of the proposed gem amounts to find is as follows:
- 14 Huge (Gem Type)
- 21 Large (Gem Type)
- 49 Medium (Gem Type)
- 128 Small (Gem Type)
All gems must be mined by the player attempting to pass the test (similar to Oyster Catcher). The player who breaks the node or removes the gem from a water mine is the player who has mined the gem. Existing uses for the gems would not be effected by this test.
Example: Players would still be able to use gems found by others to perform a wedding, buy skills, etc.
Players would get a random gem type to locate at the University of the Human Body in the same manner players get a list for Fisherman, Darkest Night and Ritual Tattoo.
Only 1 gem type per month is permitted. Both advancing players and players who failed to advance must get a new gem type each month.
Passing the Test
To pass the test, players advance 7 times. At the end of 7 advances, the player will have mined all 7 gem types. A player can advance a total of 49 times. After every 7 advances, a player must choose an attribute to modify.
- Example: If a player chose Speed each pass, that player would have 49 speed but would not be able to compete further in the challenge.
Rewards
Unlike other Human Body tests, the players would have a choice at the start of the test of which attribute he/she wanted to improve. The player could select 1 of each (randomly awarded upon completion on each list) or all of the same attributes:
- Strength
- Dexterity
- Endurance
- Speed
- Constitution
- Focus
- Perception
Passing the test would give a temporary boost to the natural stat(s) selected at the start of the test. The boost would last 2 minutes with a 15 minute cool down. The bonus would be 1/2 of the permanent stat rounded down.
Example: If the stat to be modified was 7. The bonus would be 3 (7 divided by 2 is 3.5 and 3.5 rounded down would be 3).
- Stat boost calculations would ignore temporary modification caused by food, herbs, etc.
Prohibited Actions
- Players are prohibited from using gem glue or gem tables to alter the size of the gems in order to pass the test. The gems must be mined from any type of mine: sand mines, water mines, or ore mines.
