Flowers

Flowers are decorative plants that can be placed on the ground like buildings, and Flower Fertilizer can be added to reproduce more of them. With sufficient technological advances, they can be crossbred to produce new strains of varying sizes and colors.

These flower types are currently available:

  • Sea Lilies (Blush, Clarity, Crimson, Crown, Delicate, Dusk, Energy, Fracture, Morning, Silken, Vampire) are obtainable where Horticulture tech is unlocked.
  • Sand Blooms (Calliope, Clear Skies, Cookie Jar, Corona, Lemon Drop, Love's Touch, Otter's Sunrise, Petit Mal, Pluribu's Folly, Sacrifice, Sunshine) were given as event prizes.
  • Orchids (Amazon Queen, Arabian Nights, Avalon, Emperor, Hidden in the Darkness, Masquerade, Sabretooth, Shangri-La) were given as event prizes.
  • Rose of Ra (Blood Heart, Dawn's Blush, Goldenleaves, Hatch's Bud, Heart of Darkness, Night Bloom, Onion Skin, Pantomime, Pink Giant, Red Dwarf, White Giant) are available upon researching Xenobotany

Getting Flowers

You may request one flower bulb of each type (one Sea Lily and one Rose of Ra) per character at any University of Worship that has researched the required techs (Horticulture for lilies, Xenobotany for roses) if you have learned Horticulture (and possibly Advanced Horticulture for roses).

If you want any additional varieties, you'll have to trade for them. Some flowers (including all Sand Blooms and some roses/lilies) cannot be gotten from the Universities at all; they come to us through various events and must be traded.

Probably the best method of getting flowers is via trade; there are many crossbreeders who have new strains of flowers for you to plant and/or cross. This is quite useful if you are interested in crossbreeding. Using hybrid bulbs that current breeders have developed means you can advance the progress of breeding rather than redoing the same basic crosses they've done. This means you can reach what would otherwise be difficult color/size combinations more quickly. So do a little homework, and contact breeders.

Crossbreeding Flowers

You can learn more about making new strains of flowers in the Genetics guides.

Reproduction

Want more flowers or different sizes/colors? You can reproduce the varieties you have through fertilization. You can fiddle with your flowers' genetics to produce new strains with Crossbreeding and also Mutagenics.

If you purchase the Botanist's Touch skill, you will be able to uproot any flower you own. Any fertilizations accrued will be lost.

Petals

If you select 'Harvest for Petals' in the menu, it destroys the plant and gives you a petal of the appropriate type:
