Overview

My current project is incense research. For many tales, the wiki has noted that adding Petals of Ra to incense can change its feeling, yet I have not found anything more than that. Time to poke at it and see what comes out! At this time, I am only researching the changes from Rose petals. As I finish the University roses, I am testing Lilies of the Sea and a few Orchids. Petals can be harvested from all in-game flower types.

The feeling is affected by the flower petals added to the batch.
Starting point feelings, available without adding flower petals: Gentle, Giddy, Guilty, Hopeful, Melancholious, Relaxed, Sorrowful, Vengeful.
Feelings seen after adding flower petals: Invigorating, Joyous, Mischievous, Serene, Suspicious, Troubled.
I am testing with the University roses: GL=Goldenleaves, HB=Hatch's Bud, NB=Night Bloom, OS=Onion Skin, PA=Pantomime, PG=Pink Giant, RD=Red Dwarf, WG=White Giant, and if released, BH=Blood Heart, DB=Dawn's Blush, and HD=Heart of Darkness. SP=Starting Point.

Here is my raw data. There's now way too much data to make it worth posting here. Hoping to find patterns and create a better way to show them. So far, adding petals seems to change the quality and sometimes the feeling.

Possible patterns:

• I have seen some consistency in some of the feeling changes. I am working on a model that reflects these changes, perhaps a path or a circle to be traveled along.
• Some feeling changes are rapid, and in some tests the feeling has not changed at all. No test has gone beyond adding 20 petals of the same rose.
• The concept of starting points may be useful in predicting feeling changes.

The incense Starting Points table available through Maia's user page suggests multiple feeling types, which leads me to believe that at some point, somebody has done research on this. Her table lists starting points for: Gentle, Giddy, Guilty, Hopeful 1, Hopeful 2, Melancholious, Relaxed 1, Relaxed 2, Relaxed 3, Sorrowful 1, Sorrowful 2, and Vengeful. (During my testing, I have only seen the starting point of Relaxed 2 twice.)
