So....

There is no notice or any indications that you are getting anywhere with this test. Showing your status when you are not The Two will say "Total advances to date: N". Where, N==0 if you have never gotten anything.

Your only indication that you have done anything is if you try to re-anoint an altar and get the message "You have already anointed this altar", which means no one has bumped you from the 3 deep anointing queue.

You also don't know what the value of any particular altar is when you anoint it.

Early speculation was:

  • If you get bumped quickly you get few or no points
  • Altars that get anointed frequently have less point value (presumably because too many people are bumping each other)
  • Altars that are far out have more value (presumably because no one bumps you if the altar is in BFE)

The good news: New altars appear in the landscape. New altars may not have been discovered by a lot of players.

The wiki atlas does list many altars. Players do record new altars as found but not always. Keeping an altar secret may mean you get loads of points like a cicada cage. Following a line of cactus can sometimes they will lead you to an altar.

In the end:

  • carry 4-6 cactus sap.
  • Anoint anything you find.

You might get lucky because there is no skill or talent needed for this test. The main benefit is: you get to see a lot of nice landscape.

You may need to tap as many as 60-100 altars in one day to get a score that will put you in the Top Two for that day to get a score.
