University Text

The Test of the Bedouin is a special award given to those that prove themselves the best explorers of our land. When you visit an altar, anoint it with a drop of Cactus Sap. The longer that altar remains unanointed by others, the better. Every 24 hours, the best explorers will receive and advancement in the Test of the Bedouin.

Overview

The Test of the Bedouin is the third of the test in the Discipline of the Human Body.

Your objective is to visit as many different Common Altars as possible and anoint them with cactus sap, in competition with other players. Progress in the test awards you with permanent increases to your Dexterity stat.

Passing the Principle

Visit a University of Body to begin the Test of the Bedouin.

Once you have begun the test, you may anoint common altars with cactus sap. To anoint a common altar, make sure you have Cactus Sap in your inventory, then click on the Altar. A new menu entry, "Anoint this Altar with Cactus Sap", will display.

Visit 14 to finish the principle.

Details

Every altar records the last three people to anoint it. Every 24 hours (Real Day) there is an advance for the greatest number of altars.

The score is not for time but for quantity of altars. e.g. 100 altars.

Test Advances are only reported to the top 2 scores. If you are online you get a brief message box. If you are offline you will get a notice in the calendar. Only the top 2 will know the times of the advance. The scores are for the most altars. Duration has no direct impact. Last Hitting is all that is required for scoring. Any time prior to the end of the reporting period another player can Last Hit and take the score on that altar. The tabulation period is hidden to all others. The approximate times can be estimated by the reported time drift of 2 minutes per day.

The time shift means that for most players they cannot know when to Last Hit the altars.

Time Drift appears to be approximately 1 hour per 30 day period.

  • There are crossovers between time blocks.
  • As the tale continues the pass time shift will continue to move forward by 3600 seconds per month.

The top two point scorers are for the greatest number of altars (not duration) for that reporting period receive one point of Dexterity and a popup message saying "You have placed in the top 2 Bedouin. You have done this N times". If the player is offline at the time, the message will be placed in their calendar.(If one of the top scorers already has seven points of Dexterity, they receive the message but no additional Dexterity.)

When you have successfully anointed an altar, your Main chat will report:

  • You have anointed this altar.

Attempting to anoint an altar when you are still one of the last three to have anointed will display:

  • You have already anointed this altar.

Progression

There is no in-game indication of your progress other than if you are placed in the top 2 for the day. You will then receive one of two notifications depending if you are online or offline at the time the progress is calculated. If you are online, you will receive a standard popup box saying "You have placed in the top 2 Bedouin. You have done this X time(s)." - this message stays on the screen for 5 minutes before disappearing. If you are offline, you will have a calendar entry.

Each time you are placed in the top 2, you receive a +1 DEX. This is in addition to the DEX received from the Test of the Acrobat.

A map of altars can be found on the Common Altar page.

Altar Queue

There are 3 players per altar T7ok small.gif and they are removed in FIFO (first in, first out) order.

ON -> 3 / 2 / 1 -> OFF

Altar Tap Progression

A taps altar first == null / null / A
B now taps the altar == null / B / A
C now taps the altar == C / B / A

The next person to tap the altar will push A off

D taps the altar ==  D / C / B
E taps the altar ==  E / D / C

The only method for removing a player in position 1 is to tap the altar. This advances the other 2 players. The only method of removing all players from an altar is to push 3 new players on.

The only way to stop getting advances is to have other players tap enough altars so that

  1. you are pushed off a given altar
  2. you are pushed off enough altars so you no longer are in the top 2

There is no mechanism to withdraw from an altar or gaining advances after passing the test.

Passing the Test

A player passes the Test of the Bedouin when they have received seven of these messages. After passing the test, the player gains the Bedouin Speed ability. When used, this grants a temporary +21 Dexterity bonus for around 30 seconds. This shows as a change in your native Dexterity on the stat page, not as a boost in green text like Cooking. This temporary boost has the effect of increasing offroad run speed significantly for the duration. This ability has a 10 minute cooldown, displayed as "Bed" in a similar manner to Acrobatics' "Acr" timer.
