Greetings to Egypt. I played all of Tale 1, and blipped in and out of Tales 2 and 3, (mostly out). I am fascinated by the community in Egypt and the extraordinary things that it can accomplish. I'd be honored to be a part of it, even in such a difficult role as DP.

My compound is in Queen's Retreat on the beach near the School of Architecture, where a great deal of my equipment is set for public use. I have been spending a lot of time on the Body tests so i am often not there, but feel free to use the stuff.

Hello Egypt! I’ve been playing since Tale 1. I love the community that ATITD manages to foster – I appreciate its openness and diversity. Egypt holds a special place in my heart also because at a wine tasting in Sinai in Tale 1, I met Ay for the first time and now we’ve been married (in real life) for over 4 years. My main hobbies in Egypt are Wine, Mines, the Test of theVenery, hosting a silly Microphone called GOO, and creating and running events.

First of all, Who am I? I have been an ATITD player for the last 5 years. I have run mentoring guilds since I started. I do not try to pretend I am philisophical, because I am not. I am a down to earth, fair player. Currently I am not attempting to pass many tests because I am busy helping with Research, Opening techs, and Mentoring new folks as they come. I love to help others more than myself. I have a habit of just giving things to others when I hear their needs, but I also believe in Teaching someone how to do things for themselves.

'''Hello fellows Egyptians :)'''

I'm an old player (an old man too ?) from T1, I was here too in T2 and T3 so I have a lot of experience from the game, the main laws, the gameplay, the 'ethics' from the game. I'm french, living in Paris and I'm adult's trainer in health and safety at work : my last english lesson is far, very far, so be tolerant of my spelling and grammar, please :)
'''hello Egypt! I'm so sorry i couldn't be here today, unfortunantly my schedule won't permit it.'''

But, before I say anything, I'd like to send good thoughts and prayers to Spooner whom I've been informed is in the hospital. He is an amazing person and player and one of the reasons I love egypt!! We miss you Spoony!

Anyway, my intro - I'm a fairly long time player. I've seen the ups and downs of Egypt, rather like real life in that:) I'm a bit 'older', a retired psychologist and a mother of 10 awesome kids. Conflict has been a way of life for as you can tell. I try to interject humor in most everything, I find that to be a great diffuser if you can get folks to laugh at themselves. I'm really into the creativety of egypt as any of you who have visited my CP and sheep playground know.

As a side note, since i can't be here to answer general questions, please chat me with them or any question, concern,comment.

Hello Egyptians :) I am a former player from Tale 2, had to skip 3 due to financial and time constraints. I am probably one of the younger, if not the youngest, DP up for debate. I currently study maths at university and am just entering my second year now. I think I would be able to provide quite a lot of energy into the role, and time as my course is not too time intensive. I am from the United Kingdom so I am generally around during European times although I am around late at night, well evening for most of you, so I do also interact with American players quite a lot too.

===1. Please explain why you think Egypt should vote for you for DP===

* Aku

I am a good impartial listener. I believe the DP ban is a blunt weapon of last resort and that people should do their best to solve their disputes in a civilized manner. I am happy to help any such parties work out the inevitable conflicts and misunderstandings that are a byproduct of human beings interact.

* Dreasimy

If I were fulfilling the role of DP I would continue to be doing the things that I do now: being an active and engaged member of our little world, available to lend a hand, ear, or shoulder to those in need. If there was a situation where the question of using a ban arose, I would be very careful, thorough, and openminded. Diversity is the foundation of a great society, a ban would lessen that diversity. I would exhaust all other options before resorting to such an extreme action. If Egypt would like a DP who approaches things in such a way, they should vote for me, if not, well then, they should …not J

I have been into serving Egypt from Tale 2, Tale 3, and this telling. Service is a very important part for Egypt. The people should come first, not myself. I have a habit of running for someone new, dropping my plans, to assist them to learn the roles of Egypt. I have been an honest player since day 1. Some say I am sensitive, that indeed I am. But it is sensitivity that gives me the drive to continue to help and want to make others happy while in this Tale. I believe I could make a great DP because I can be attentitive to Egypts needs.

I don't believe DP are "police" or "judges" I believe having the power to ban simply means, there is an ultimate solution to a ongoing harasser in the telling. It is a power in which to use sparingly-wisely-and ultimately as a Last Resort. After all, DP's are only players in the game, which have an extra power to assist in peace in Egypt.

I don't feel there would be any obstacles as being DP. If I didn't think I could be a problem solver, or deal with issues at hand, I would not be here attempting to do so, This is no longer a Test, but now a willingness to step up to the plate and help when Egypt is in need.

I think this question can be merged with the number 4 : 'What do you believe the role of DP is ?' For this, as much as put myself in place of an Egyptian (yes, empathy is a necessary quality for a DP!). I don't want to be banned : candidates must give me a guarantee of fairness and balance to make sure do not ban me for nothing. Then, a DP can not be banished himself, except by using an heavy procedure : I must be sure that my candidate will not 'flipping out' and doing crazy things (it has already seen). Last, but not written anywhere, I am able to use the services of a DP as a mediator/negociator in conflict with another player/guld. This last task is the main job for a DP.
My professionnal experience of course, but my past in the three previous tales speak for me : I think to gather these capabilities.
Well, my RL experiences of psychologist and mom of a herd stand me in good stead here. I have people from all over egypt chatting me for advice on how to handle one situation or another already, including sitting DPs. I think my biggest strength is being able to help folks find their own solutions, which is much more palatable. I also know when something is beyond me, and have never hesitated to ask for advice (just check with my early mentors). Those who know me , both here in and in RL, know that I am impartial, open and ready to listen to all sides.

I am very organised and good at planning which I believe is a key skill to be a DP as if your time is not managed correctly then you will be nowhere near as effective as you could be. I help run the weightlifting society at my university and am an Ex captain at my golf club so I am used to the pressures of having resposibility, having to organise things and dealing with people in a way that they feel like something is being done to help them and that I am on their side. I am friendly and am willing to help out anyone who needs it, I have a few things to learn myself I am sure. I am good at remaining impartial when making descisions, a vital attribute for a DP as there is no room for blinkered eyes if one of your friends is in the wrong in an argument.

===2. Please tell us what some of your accomplishments are this tale===

I have passed the Test of the Obelisk and the Test of the Singing Cicadas.

Something I greatly enjoy is creating locations and events designed to bring people together. I have loved designing and creating the Dead Pharaohs Society art park in Queen’s Retreat where we feature lots of local artists and craftspeople. I’m really proud of my Venery, I love writing them and I think Path-Opener, Keeper of the Names is the best I’ve done yet! Hosting parties at Café Dreasimy in Falcon Bay has been a blast of late. I love helping people and have had the opportunity to do that whether it’s teaching someone how to dowse and map gems and ores, or how to begin an illustrious career in growing and making wine, or being a sympathetic ear when they need it – connecting with people has been really rewarding for me this tale.

When I first came to Egypt I joined a guild for Mentoring. The guild had but a few people in it. I have helped this guild grow, while helping the mentees become stronger players. The tests I have passed are Oblisk and Test of Towers. I love to build as a hobby at my compound so Test of towers has been one I still chase so I can build the monumentals. I have made many friends here in Egypt, and one in particular who has very, very limited time, I welcomed to my compound and currently share everything I have with her so that when she does finally get the time to play, she has access to everything that she needs. I feel that is an accomplishment because in itself, it shows my willingness to not put a price upon pixils and give back what was given to me when I started playing 5 years ago.

My playing style is inspired by two discipline : the human body and the worship. The human body for his appearance a bit individualist, the opportunity to surpass oneself, the patience, but also the cooperation between players. The worship for its social dimension, mutual aid and achieving a common task. These preferences are reflected in my style of play: first, I have a camp with my spouse, lilinou, we trying to provide alone with our basic needs to be independent : on the other hand, I participate at the life of the Egyptian community through my work as a translator, but also in my guilds, or the support that I bring to the research, according to my means, especially the development of roses of Ra.
I do not feel the need to put myself forward, so I can give the impression of being 'absent' whatsoever on E!, or in the forums but I try to stay informed of the main events in Egyptian life ; I feel no need to proclaim my accomplishments everywhere or the help I can give to my fellow citizens, I am doing it for my pleasure.
well, one of the things i'm proud of is helping to bring together 2 guilds that were suffering from misunderstandings and now they are working together to build an aqua line that so far has i believe 40 towers and has not run dry yet. Most of what I do is not in the limelight, helping people with beetles, giving advice and mentoring as much as I can.

In this tale I am trying to be as balanced as possible in my pursuit of tests, one from each at a time. One of my main achievemnets I believe is the speed in which I passed test of the acrobat, I set myself a goal of before I went on holiday, approximately 2 weeks away, and set about achieveing that goal. Finally on the night before I passed achieveing my goal but most of all meeting a lot of amazing people along the way and making some good friends too :) The majority of my time at the moment is spent in beetle breeding, 9 terraniums but planning to expand to 18, and glass making, something i find relaxing to do. All khefre's essence produced is donated to research, at the moment i produce 1 every 2-3 days which I find helps research along a lot :)

===3. Land disputes are the main cause of conflict this tale... how would you handle this? (example: someone builds an oven in someones camp, or a mine too close to someones cp)===

* Aku

Given the game mechanics there is no good solution for this problem. If the parties involved cannot come to some mutual agreement there is not much that a DP can do, as banning the owner doesn't get rid of the offending building(s).

If two parties came to me with a dispute I would ask that A) they both agree to treat my intervention as binding arbitration, and B) they each put up a candidate for a Ban in case of breach of contract. I would then hear the case and make a decision which might include reparations, tearing down buildings, a Ban of some other involved party, or doing nothing at all. If the agreement gets carried out, we're done. If one or both parties violate the agreement then the applicable designated targets get Banned and we start over again.

Might work. Might not. I only just thought of this so some of the details might need tweaking. Let me know what you think.

Generally, I come at it from a place of knowing what the rules are and aren’t. Unless you are building something on top of another player-built structure technically you are not violating any rule or law. However, what we are dealing with is perception. You have one person who has a perception of their personal space and another person who has a very different (yet arguably, valid) perception. In general, as long as you can keep both sides calm there are often solutions to be had. Usually I will offer to replace the offending structure with an equivalent in another location. That may not always be possible of course. Other times the best move might be to just help the person move their camp to a new area. Both are possible and often lots of people step up to help make it happen. It takes an ability to be fairminded, calm (which helps others be calm) and compromise.

I have run into this: My solution was to personally provide materials to (either the builder of the Item or the CP) and help rebuild whatever it was to make the problem solved. I helped to locate land that was even better than the persons prior and gave them the materials myself. This may not work in every case, but it did in the one I was involved in. This issue was with myself, last telling. I did not need to call a DP for it because I was a citizen of Egypt and not a DP myself. I had the extra materials, and therefore, Helped offer to seek out land in which the person would want to build. I do nothing but make basic materials while hanging out at my compound, so typicaly I have them. So, if it were myself in this situation, that would be what I would do.

* Ephemere

The concept of land's property does not exist in Egypt, there is no law that governs it, however there is a rule that prohibits building where someone has already built : the GM are the guardians of it. Before to call them, a DP may attempt to intervene, but his power is very thin and only his talents as a mediator may eventually resolve the conflict.
* Murtha

That is a toughie. Egypt doesn't have defined land ownership, so there are many things that are in grey areas. If something is obviously a case of not knowing, I help the offender with mats to move the offendindg structure. If it is a case of pure griefing, usually reasoning will not work, though i do try. The best a DP can do in that situation is try their best to effect a reasonable solution. If TOS has been violated, then the GMs can be called in.

* Twoshadows

I believe the main thing here is to find a solution to the problem that is acceptable to both parties, possibly the person with the grievance may be willing to allow the building to remain where it is for a certain percentage of the items produced. If this is not the case then I would help the builder move the offending building to a new and more acceptable place by gathering materials and aiding in construction anyway possible. Whilst the concept of ownership is not defined in any laws as of yet it is important to respect people's space and plans, by working with both parties I believe any disputes can be sorted out fairly and justly.

===4. What do you believe the role of DP is?===

* Aku

The role of the DP is to exist. Anyone with a dispute will know that should things escalate past a certain point that there is an entity within the game that can ban a character forcing the player to start over again. This should encourage players to work out their problems among themselves. Coming to a DP to settle an issue is a measure of last resort, because the only tool that the DP has is very blunt and doesn't generally even solve the problem, it just punishes someone.

* Dreasimy

Technically, at its most simplistic, I would say it is two things. First, responsible stewardship of the bans. And secondly, and perhaps even more important, to behave responsibly in the light that as a DP you cannot be banned. When it comes down to it, that is all that is different between a DP and any given paying account – the ability to ban someone else (effectively sentencing them to death) and the relative safety of not being bannable. Yes, DPs can be removed by law, but given the relative snail’s pace of our legal system it’s at the least, very difficult to accomplish. One must take the second as seriously as the first.

* Dustitwister

The role of DP for myself, means, Being a citizen to depend on. I feel DP is a role that plays a big part in determining a solution to problems that two people might not otherwise think of. DP must be a good listener, problem solver, and most of all be fair in all issues.

* Murtha

A DP is basically an impartial third party observer, whose job it is to mediate and/or negotiate solutions to the problems players might have with each other. The role is NOT a policeman, or to force your views on others. I see it as a chance to help correct misunderstanding educate new players and help the stress and frustration we all feel, that sometimes gets the better of us.

* Twoshadows

A DP's role is to act as a judge for all of Egypt, people bring their problems to them and they hear all the evidence before dispensing a well considered verdict and possibke recriminations. A DP is also a community support officer, offering help to people that need it most and educating people in the ways of Egypt so that less disputes occur in the future.

===5. Explosives are about to come out... is this a bannable offense? Would YOU ban someone for this?===

* Aku

So let me get this straight: the game will shortly allow construction of a device that will destroy buildings and this is a DP problem? Sigh.

To answer the question, to the extent that banning someone will solve the problem of them behaving like a jerk i would be willing to use the Ban.

* Dreasimy

Using explosives with reckless abandon is one of the things I probably would, given the right circumstances, which may include: knowingly destroying something that cannot be replaced (or would be extremely difficult to replace,) having no remorse, and it being an unprovoked attack.

* Dustitwister

I was not here for explosives last telling. I have read and heard of issues such as Compounds being blown up (which can be repaired) and items (which can be repaired), it would depend on the way in which it was used, such as if it were greifing-how severe the greifing were, how often it occured, had the person been spoken to that did the explosions on someone else' property....My decision would be based upon the severity of the problem not the act itself. Would I ban? That again is based upon all the facts, witnesses, and of course with the fellow DP's if they are available to determine if a ban was necessary.

* Ephemere

Hmmm ... need I say it here ? That might go against me, but I was the Cathy's mentor in T1 ... Since, the time spent :)
Back to the topic ... There is no typical situation, so there is no typical clue ; I retain only one principle : the one who caused the damage should pay (the principle of civil liability). Regarding the 'criminal's consequences' from the case, I think DP should get together and make a group answer. This raises a more general question of the use of the ban : I think, except a case requiring an urgent response, the decision of a ban and its duration should be taken collectively by all the DP.
* Murtha

If a person blew up a critical structure, like a CS or a public facility, then in my mind they are asking to be banned. In the cases i've seen where someone has been banned, they have done things in order to BE banned, they wanted it. But i think we ought to draft some very clear laws so that we do have direction, maybe define the restitutions etc. My thoughts of someone blowing up private structures is that the offender should be responsible for the mats needed to replace/rebuild.

* Twoshadows

It all depends on the actions of the person, blowing up something considerable and widely used such as public facilities is a bannable offence in my opinion. Unless the offender can replace eveything they create quickly, and if the acted in a malicious way then I believe they should be banned. Blowing up someone's compound as a little joke wouldnt be too bad as long as the offender replaced all mats needed and helped in construction then that would be considered ok as long as they are not a serial offender. However blowing up all of a certain person's buildings out of spite and then not helping would be bannable, it just is not acceptable behaviour.
