My apologies for missing the debate today, the timing for me was horrible.  I am not at my best at 5am and I would have been late for work!

Who: I started in Tale 3, and the reason I play this game is its nonviolent nature and camaraderie that has developed over time. I am not a heavy hitter as far as leveling, preferring growing and creating things. My spouse is Spooner, and we have lived in SW most of T4.
 +
In RL I live in the USA and currently train horses and riders, give seminars and am a Fédération Equestre Internationale (Olympic governing body) judge. My job is to ensure the fairness of competitions, primarily in countries other than my own.
 +

 +
The DP role: To me a good DP is virtually invisible. If the need for action arises, the first choice is always a solution other than banning. To ban it is important to remember first and foremost this is a game, and as such there are expectations on what is appropriate according to the code of conduct, passed by the Egyptian citizens. It is the DP's responsibility to listen to all sides, putting aside friendships and loyalties. I personally believe that this code we hope all players abide by also applies to DPs.
 +
The "role model" certainly is appropriate and really would require no change for any potential DPs, because I would like to believe we all behaved ourselves before being considered for election or our peers wouldn't have put us forward as candidates:-)
 +

 +
Why vote for me? I have experience arbitrating "sports/games" and am perfectly capable of banning, though this would be my last choice. I trust the voting people of Egypt to make good decisions.

Dreasimy: Hello and welcome to the January 2009 DP Debate! The finalists are BlueGrass, DustiTwister, Halana, Hanid, Myna, and Sterling. Myna and DustiTwister could not attend today's debate and send their apologies. I will be posting some of their answers for them when it applies. Please hold non-debate related chat until after we are done, if you like you can post other messages to GOO (type /join GOO) in the mean time. Halana and Sterling are not here yet but Hanid has limited time so we will start on time and hope they arrive shortly.
 +
Dreasimy: First I'll ask the candidates to tell us a little about themselves and what they like about ATITD. Please go ahead when you are ready :)
 +
Orrin: Just pointing out Dusti can't be with us cos she's in hospital a few more days
 +
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: First of all, Who am I? I have been an ATITD player for the last 5 years. I have run mentoring guilds since I started. I do not try to pretend I am philisophical, because I am not. I am a down to earth, fair player. Currently I am not attempting to pass many tests because I am busy helping with Research, Opening techs, and Mentoring new folks as they come. I love to help others more than myself. I have a habit of just giving things to others when I hear their needs, but I also believe in Teaching someone how to do things for themselves.
 +
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: I have been into serving Egypt from Tale 2, Tale 3, and this telling. Service is a very important part for Egypt. The people should come first, not myself. I have a habit of running for someone new, dropping my plans, to assist them to learn the roles of Egypt. I have been an honest player since day 1. Some say I am sensitive, that indeed I am. But it is sensitivity that gives me the drive to continue to help and want to make others happy while in this Tale. I believe I could make a great DP because I can be attentitive to Egypts needs. I don't believe DP are "police" or "judges" I believe having the power to ban simply means, there is an ultimate solution to a ongoing harasser in the telling. It is a power in which to use sparingly-wisely-and ultimately as a Last Resort. After all, DP's are only players in the game, which have an extra power to assist in peace in Egypt. I don't feel there would be any obstacles as being DP. If I didn't think I could be a problem solver, or deal with issues at hand, I would not be here attempting to do so, This is no longer a Test, but now a willingness to step up to the plate and help when Egypt is in need.
 +
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: I have mentored many, many people. I set a goal to build a deep well and it became a reality within 8 days. When I have nothing to do, instead of working on tests, I look in Bazaar and randomly pick someone who needs the hardest item and seek it out to "give" it to the person who was thinking they were going to buy it. I have purchased 3 sets so far of Huge Gems to give to people for their skill as well. The tests I have passed are Oblisk and Test of Towers. I love to build as a hobby at my compound so Test of towers has been one I still chase so I can build the monumentals. I have made many friends here in Egypt, and one in particular who has very, very limited time, I welcomed to my compound and currently share everything I have with her so that when she does finally get the time to play, she has access to everything that she needs. I feel that is an accomplishment because in itself, it shows my willingness to not put a price upon pixils and give back what was given to me when I started playing 5 years ago.
 +
Dreasimy: ~~~
 +
Dreasimy: Myna: I've been playing Atitd since early Tale 3 and have spent many hours enjoying both the friends I have made and the game itself. As an Australian based player I meet many 'night owls' in this game who enjoy ATITD at various random late hours. I play for fun and when I am able. I travel a lot for work and, like this game, find myself waiting around at Chariot Stops, fondly called Airports in the real world, with time to kill.
 +
Dreasimy: Myna: ATITD is a tool to share some laughs, chat, run around doing insane things to pass tests, help other fellow guildies and players, a bit of reasoning to understand the processes and not to mention the grind necessary to achieve!
 +
Hanid: I started in Tale 3, and the reason I play this game is its nonviolent nature and camaraderie that has developed over time. I am not a heavy hitter as far as leveling, preferring growing and creating things. My spouse is Spooner, and we have lived in SW most of T4. In RL I live in the USA and currently train horses and riders, give seminars and am a FŽdŽration Equestre Internationale (Olympic governing body) judge. My job is to ensure the fairness of competitions, primarily in countries other than my own.
 +
Hanid: I guess the best thing that I have been involved with was starting a Garden of Eden project in T3. All of Egypt was welcome to add to it and we had a great party :-)
 +
BlueGrass: I've been playing Atitd since mid T3 and have always enjoyed the game and friends that I have made here. I'm from Johannesburg, South Africa so I fall under the Euro Time zone (GMT+2) I'm 34 years and current unemployed due to medical reasons so I have lots of time to play. I'm on most days and spend way to much time in game. In Game I spend most of my time in Stillwater working on helping my guild mates and working to passing tests. If I have missed anything please feel free to ask me.
 +
Dreasimy: What do you feel the role of DP is?
 +
BlueGrass: I see the DP role as that of a leader in our community. A role model on how people should act towards each other. I've always lived by the motto "treat people the same way that you would want other people to treat you." The more you help others out the more that others will be willing to help you out in time of need. The DP should be there once parties have realized there is no common ground that can be settled on. The DP should be the person that is able to look at the problem from both sides and then be able to help each of the parties come to a compromise if needed. I hope that I can fill that position.
 +
Dreasimy: Myna: I believe the role of DP in the game has been evolving over the last 3 tales and basically forms part of your achievements toward supporting your fellow players if and when asked to. Given that this is a game I believe the role needs to be approached with an open mind and an understanding that you can only do what the players you are working with are willing to allow you to achieve.
 +

 +
Dreasimy: Why do you think people should vote for you?
 +
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: I feel there are a lot of people in ATITD that would make a fantastic DP. I don't feel I am the best of the bunch, but I do feel I can continue to give to Egypt what was so freely given to me during my years here in ATITD. That is the patience and understanding during a "storm" and be available to those who need me at any given time. I serve our community currently by tellering for "The Goods" and also am a moderator for "Bazaar and E! microphones". I know a lot of people who are in the game, and even those who no one else wants to speak to, I get along with. I have zero drama in the game and seem to at least be on a hello basis with nearly everyone I come across. I tend to drop what I am doing to be of service to someone if they are in need. I have a huge heart and help all who come to me and surprise even those who don't.
 +
Dreasimy: ~~~
 +
Dreasimy: Myna: You know, I don't really think it is for me to assume that people should vote for me, all I can do is move forward and await the outcome. I haven't spent hours running around to every chariot stop to announce to the whole of the game player base that I am here and running for DP - I personally don't like doing that. I also haven't posted numerous messages on E! or Regional channels about the upcoming election.
 +
Dreasimy: Myna: Again, if you care to know more about me and are considering whether to vote for me please continue to read on my wiki page:
 +
Dreasimy: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/User:Myna
 +
Hanid: I have experience arbitrating "sports/games" and am perfectly capable of banning, though this would be my last choice. Power here is not important to me, and I recognise the DP role as a thankless job that can lead to burn out. I do want to give something back, because I appreciate being able to play here with good people. I trust the voting people of Egypt to make good decisions.
 +
BlueGrass: I feel that I have a lot to give as regards time and I enjoy playing, I'm more than wiling to help out where I can and think that keeping the community working together here is a great think for all of us. It helps all of us if we help each other.
 +
BlueGrass: that is the one of the many reasons that I've pursued becomeing a DP for the last 3 elections. I think that show my commitment to the community
 +
BlueGrass: I'm willing to server and help egypt when I can
 +
Dreasimy: Can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were involved in? And/or can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were not directly involved in?
 +
Dreasimy: i.e. one where you acted as one of the parties in the conflict and one where you perhaps acted as mediator or problem solver...
 +
Dreasimy: (Since DustiTwister has some of these answers already posted on her wiki page I'll be posting them if they are pertinent to some of the 'on the fly' questions I'm asking during the debate.)
 +
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: LAND DISPUTES AND MY EXPERIENCE WITH IT ~ I have run into this: My solution was to personally provide materials to (either the builder of the Item or the CP) and help rebuild w whatever it was to make the problem solved. I helped to locate land that was even better than the persons prior and gave them the materials myself. This may not work in every case, but it did in the one I was involved in. This issue was with myself, last telling. I did not need to call a DP for it because I was a citizen of Egypt and not a DP myself. I had the extra materials, and therefore, Helped offer to seek out land in which the person would want to build. I do nothing but make basic materials while hanging out at my compound, so typicaly I have them. So, if it were myself in this situation, that would be what I would do.
 +
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: The role of DP for myself, means, Being a citizen to depend on. I feel DP is a role that plays a big part in determining a solution to problems that two people might not otherwise think of. DP must be a good listener, problem solver, and most of all be fair in all issues.
 +
BlueGrass: In the area were I have based my camp we have several smaller guilds and 2 of them didn't get along. they were having a dispute over some land that the two of them shared. I got them to see that the land was for the benifit of both guilds, bu talking to the 2 main elders of each guild. They then became good friends.
 +
BlueGrass: It comes down to been able to see both sides of the situation and finding the common ground
 +
Hanid: Early on in this tale there were many land usage conflicts and slander cases. The laws of Egypt do not allow for ownership at this point. So in this case resettling or quitting the game was the only solution for some.
 +
Hanid: My role in this was simply to paint a happier picture of relocating, providing mats, hand holding and a fair share of empathy, based on my own personal experience. Pretty small thing . . . .
 +
Hanid: In RL I have had to reprimand leaders of nations rofl
 +
Dreasimy: What is more important in a DP: their ability to handle bans responsibly or their not taking advantage of their immunity from DP bans?
 +
BlueGrass: Short and sweet:I think that both are equally important.
 +
Hanid: That is an easy one for me, but probably not the answer you want :-)
 +
Hanid: I do not think DPs should have immunity and believe they should be treated like any other citizen.
 +
Hanid: Second, the whole point of electing our peers to the role of DP is to choose people who will use their banning ability with the utmost care and contemplation.
 +
Dreasimy: Blondie asks: Where did you get your name from?
 +
Hanid: my real name backwards because I didn't think I would ever play longer than Welcome Island
 +
BlueGrass: My best friend helped me setup my ipod when I first got it and he asked me what I should name it so I said it should have music as a meaning so we looked up music and thats how I found my name. My friend still calls me BlueGrass when he calls me on the phone.
 +
Dreasimy: What types of things would you take into account when faced with a situation involving explosives or griefing if you were the only active DP?
 +
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: OPINION ON EXPLOSIVES AND GREIFING~ I was not here for explosives last telling. I have read and heard of issues such as Compounds being blown up (which can be repaired) and items (which can be repaired), it would depend on the way in which it was used, such as if it were greifing-how severe the greifing were, how often it occured, had the person been spoken to that did the explosions on someone else' property....My decision would be based upon the severity of the problem not the act itself. Would I ban? That again is based upon all the facts, witnesses, and of course with the fellow DP's if they are available to determine if a ban was necessary.
 +
Hanid: 1) Collect data from all parties/witnesses
 +
Hanid: 2) Inspect the site of damage
 +
Hanid: 3) Try to meet face to face with people involved
 +
Hanid: 4) Render a decision with the facts available
 +
Hanid: 5) Make those facts available to other DPs
 +
Hanid: 6) Run for cover :-)
 +
BlueGrass: I would need to find out what was the provication of the Explosive or Greifing was then work with the parties and find a solution. Most of time there is something that sets someone off and then things get out of hand. The ideal sitituation is to catch the situation before it get to that point
 +
Dreasimy: Now I'd like to ask the candidates to make their final remarks (as one of the two candidates who made it to this debate has to log out right now) :)
 +
Hanid: It has been a pleasure to be in the company of other talented potential DPs. I am confident the choice Egyptian voters make will be well thought out and I wish all well. There are lots of good choices in this group!
 +
Orrin: Question: Should GMs figure in your 'list of punishments' as DP?
 +
Dreasimy: There was a reason I asked for questions before the debate started, we only had a limited time :) Sorry Orrin only one candidate left.
 +
Orrin: spur of the moment thing ;)
 +
Orrin: Still, what's their answer?
 +
BlueGrass: Thank-you very much Dreasimy for hosting the Debate and I wish all canidtates the best for the election and best wishes to Dusti hope you make a speedy recovery
 +
BlueGrass: My info is also on my userpage and if you feel that there is still something you wish to know from me please chat me and I'll be glad to answer
 +
BlueGrass: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/User:BlueGrass/DP
 +
BlueGrass: Orrin are you say that if a GM did something that wrong would they still face a ban?
 +
Orrin: nah, would involving a GM feature on the list of things to do before banning someone for an offense?
 +
Orrin: Let Teppy deal with GM behaviour
 +
BlueGrass: Yes I would if they could help in providing facts would be helpfull in resolving a situation
 +
Orrin: but not to solicit GM-only punishments, such as isolation?
 +
Dreasimy: It looks like Sterling and Halana were confused on the day we were doing the debate and were expecting it to be tomorrow - sorry about that :)
 +
BlueGrass: Yes if it would help the situation then maybe isolation would be a form of punishment
 +
Dreasimy: Im trying to find out if Sterling would like to add some statements here at the end of the debate now that he's online :) for now here's a word from our sponsor:
 +
ShuoftheFieryHeat: stillwater pressie wiki list updated - a few new pressies exposed
 +
firegolem: im still tryin gto find my last cartwheels facet. willign to travel.
 +
Dreasimy: Again, Myna is sorry she could not be here due to work but congratulates the other candidates and and gives her best wishes for the election. DustiTwister was going to try to attend but is in the hospital and was unable to be here. Thanks :)
 +
Halana: Hello, all sorry I missed the debate, thought it was tomorrow
 +
Halana: I joined this game last August when Simsonline folded.  Have been playing here since.  Our camp is in SW near the U of Body.
 +
Halana: I enjoy the building we get to do in this game.  The collecting of mats, making one item that then goes into other items for a finished building or object that will help make our life here easier.
 +
Halana: I have lots of free time so I have the time it takes to enjoy game and help others.
 +
Halana: Except for Mushrooms test, I really enjoy the body test.
 +
Halana: and tapping toe waiting for swimming.....
 +
Halana: Role of DP... since the only job they have is to ban players....and that does not seem to be happening.....the role of DP has been trying to change...to be a more helpful for players...to solove problem...again not sure that has much impac in Egypt.....
 +
Halana: Would like to see the law for DP's to be able to pick up left over junk (that seems to be scattered all over Egypt) pass
 +
Halana: hint... people pick up after yourselfs....wood planes are cheap to make...we dont need public ones all over the place...when done using them tear down
 +
Halana: Why should people vote for me...Well...I would not be afraid to use the ban...it was called for a few weeks ago...was not used...which was a shame....good players left the game.
 +
Halana: It is so sad to see so many of the old players quit
 +
jazkar: First to chat gets a coords for rat tracks.
 +
Halana: I well if u need more info...chat me
 +
Orrin: If I can just interrupt as a DP, you really think you'd use a ban?
 +
jazkar: Rat claimed.
 +
Halana: I have read your feelings on this....
 +
Halana: do nothing cause it can be worked around
 +
Halana: I dont agree with that
 +
Orrin: can you give me an example of when a ban would be useful?
 +
Halana: yes, it shows a stand
 +
Halana: it shows that even though someone can be banned and can get a new account,
 +
Halana: that what they did was not acceptable
 +
Halana: was wrong
 +
Orrin: that's not an example of use
 +
Orrin: that's a statement of self-justification
 +
Halana: well take it as u wish
 +
Halana: dps have let this game down by not taking a stand
 +
Halana: anythign goes
 +
Halana: we have bombs
 +
Halana: what u going to do when someone blows up yoru cp
 +
Orrin: You're right Halana, people with explosives are everywhere waiting to detonate our charriots and schools
 +
Orrin: DPs have done nothing to combat this threat and it is time we took a stand! Ban anyone that makes an explosive!
 +
Halana: get real
 +
Halana: did i say that
 +
Halana: real it in Orrin
 +
Dreasimy: Ok let's move on :) Halana I posted a couple of the other questions the candidates answered earlier on the same wiki page as before:
 +
Dreasimy: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/Demi-Pharaoh/Jan2010
 +
Orrin: I return it to *you*, how would you solve a simple dispute, ban the person you think caused the most trouble?
 +
Dreasimy: Would you like to address any of those questions at this time (or Sterling too?)
 +
Dreasimy: I didn't mean to post that from Orrin
 +
Dreasimy: Can I suggest that Orrin, maybe you could post these questions on the same wiki above so every candidate has an opportunity to answer them :)
 +
Halana: Orrin, simple disputes do not need ban, and you are a bit silly to even say that
 +
Orrin: Then why have 'DPs' let Egypt down?
 +
Halana: Cause when a ban has been called for they sat on their thumbs and did nothing...........
 +
Orrin: The difference between a DP and a player is the ban. Why should DPs carry the blame for everything that goes on? We aren't omniscient, omnipotent, omni-anything
 +
Orrin: I can think of two occasions when a ban was called for, in both situations the problem was resolved without a ban and the massive outcry a ban would have caused. Your point is?
 +
Halana: wrong
 +
Dreasimy: can you cite a specific example where a ban was called for, and not giiven but you thought one should have been?
 +
Halana: if in the two occasions the ban had hppened, there would of been alot less upset
 +
Halana: yes last year when a cp got blow up and we dont need to go into that, we all know what happened
 +
Halana: then this tale, with the cp that was build in a shape that was hurtful to others
 +
Orrin: The events I'm thinking of were what's-his-face that 'hacked an account' and the 'swastika' cp
 +
ShuoftheFieryHeat: adn pressie wiki list updated - a few additions
 +
Halana: if in each case the dps had taken care of the problem right away, there would not of been the uset that followed
 +
Halana: upset
 +
Orrin: Riiiight... so you're dragging *this* tale's DPs through the dirt in reference to something that happen *last* tale when they may not had been DPs
 +
Trillian: so you think the guy who built the badly shaped cp should of just been banned right off the mark....no questions asked ?
 +
Halana: hey orrin, u think banning should not happen, which is why i dont understand why you even wanted to be dp, that is the only job dps have stated by teppy (this game)
 +
Orrin: and if you're refering the 'explosives' incident to Cathy, then there was a technical restriction on that, DPs couldn't have banned her.
 +
Halana: again, trillian, no quesions asked??? of couse the dps should of asked questions, then make a move done something,
 +
TheMazeEcho: Orrin wanted to be DP to be unbannable ;)
 +
Dreasimy: Let's move on if we can please :)
 +
Dreasimy: I think her stance is relatively clear if not agreed with by everyone
 +
Halana: why what does orrin have planned for us
 +
Orrin: Oh yah, just dont tell anyone about that massive stash of explosives the DP guild has...
 +
Orrin: And Halana, re-read it, you may then *understand* it
 +
Trillian: the dp's did sort it out its been resolved without resorting to a ban, so they actually did do thier jobs....at which point exactly would u have preffered it if they had banned him then?
 +
Halana: orrin, i understand you.....
 +
Aubery: <---thorws Halan a string of garlic
 +
Dreasimy: Ok Im not posting anything else on this topic from anyone :)
 +
Dreasimy: Please feel free to discuss this on the wiki or after we conclude this 'debate'
 +
Dreasimy: Halana or Sterling can you let me know if you want to address any of the other debate questions that were covered this morning?
 +
Dreasimy: They can be found here:
 +
Dreasimy: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/Demi-Pharaoh/Jan2010
 +
Dreasimy: Because Trillian the topic has been covered and I don't want to continue holding up regular E! traffic for a redundant argument, she answered, you guys disagree we are moving on :)
 +
Sterling: oh I agree with Halana
 +
Dreasimy: once the debate is 'over' another mod can post whatever they want :)
 +
Halana: With conflicts I am involved in....
 +
Halana: I go two ways, one say out front what I dont like
 +
Halana: I get more upset when I think people are being cheated
 +
Halana: or two, i just tell the person I cant talk now...I want to wait until I am not upset before I try and resolve anything
 +
Halana: and when i handled conflict for others, right up front, what was done that was wrong
 +
Halana: how it should be fixed
 +
Halana: Sorry did not know that being a DP makes one immunity for bans....is that a teppy law or a dp law.....a dp should NOT have immunity from a ban.......I think that is a very sad rule ....being a dp should not set anyone up as king
 +
Halana: or queen
 +
Dreasimy: it's a teppy law so to speak, that's the way he wants DPs, that's the risk he wants us to have to take
 +
Halana: but then teppy does like conflict and drama
 +
Halana: kk with that said, being dp their abilty to ban is way more and should be the only thing important to a dp, not the immunity
 +
Dreasimy: to be clear for everyone she is answering this question asked earlier: What is more important in a DP: their ability to handle bans responsibly or their not taking advantage of their immunity from DP bans?
 +
Robare: Halana....you seem to be very emotional......while I admire that trait in people....it's good to be passionate....do you think thiat is a good quality to have in a DP?
 +
Dreasimy: Halana is going to address a previous question from this morning: What types of things would you take into account when faced with a situation involving explosives or griefing if you were the only active DP?
 +
Halana: kk here goes.....this should get orrin hopping.....if i am dp, and anyone goes out of their way, to make a bomb, walk over to someone's cp, or to a cs and blows up someone elses camp or the public cs they should be banned
 +
Aubery: Why is the emphasis more on Ban and not on teaching?? this tale has been burned out on blame and not treating other's with respect  in regards to sensitive issues
 +
Halana: Robare....yes
 +
Orrin: Nah not really, that's pretty much what I said I'd do, *if* you'd read it ;)
 +
Dreasimy: Halana is going to respond to a question Blondie asked earlier, where did your name come from?
 +
Halana: my name came from Simsonline...was the name i had there...Helen I was goign for was taken so I came up with Halana
 +
Halana: kk I think that is all the questions posted on wiki
 +
Yerbouti: if someone is caught red handed and generally takes the "screw you" defense, it's not a teaching moment
 +
BlueGrass: We are all here because of the friendly community we were introduced to when we first started the game. The help that we give new people should be the help that we give everyone old and new.
 +
Dreasimy: Thank you Halana, if you or Sterling have any closing comments now is the time :)
 +
Rabble: My only question for DP candidates is 'where are all the beehive mushrooms?'
 +
Halana: Rabble when i find one i will tell you.....have yet to see one
 +
Halana: mp Dreasim, thank you for hosting and letting me post after the fact
 +
BlueGrass: there are 21 beehive spots each day apparently so they are out there
 +
Halana: I think we find people we enjoy chating and working toward goals with
 +
Dreasimy: I want to thank the candidates for their time today as well as Myna and DustiTwister who provided some pre-written responses I was able to post on their behalf. You can find more info and a log of this debate on this wiki page:

Dreasimy: as well as links to personal wiki pages of most of the candidates :)
 +
SpicyXX: bah lol anyone seen bloodbark
 +
SpicyXX: looks like hawthorne but redish
 +
BlackBeast: Beehive mushrooms becomes a myst by every day passes and no one seem to meet them
 +
Halana: Mushroom test needs to be rethought
 +
Dreasimy: It looks like that's it, thanks again, I now return you to your regular programming :)

BlueGrass

I've answered these on my user page BlueGrass answers

Myna

Please see my user page for responses to the questions above and additional information. Myna's User Page

My apologies for missing the debate today, the timing for me was horrible. I am not at my best at 5am and I would have been late for work!

Other Debate Questions:

Can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were involved in? And/or can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were not directly involved in?

In this tale I haven't been involved in any conflicts and in fact, in general, I find that this hasn't been a major issue for me. I work well in a group relationship like a guild or multiple guilds and also on my own.

In real life if faced with a situation that seems to be explosive or tending to become argumentative I tend to listen and work with the person/s to resolve issues quickly before they boil over.

What is more important in a DP: their ability to handle bans responsibly or their not taking advantage of their immunity from DP bans?

I believe both are important!

However, if you were elected a DP and then went crazy in game I guess that is the 'game' element coming to the fore again and a risk we all have to face up to. Not a good outcome but still possible if you are wanting to be devious and cause problems and play life in ATITD as a game to the MAX.

What types of things would you take into account when faced with a situation involving explosives or griefing if you were the only active DP?

As this is a hypothetical situation and I can't be specific to any actual perceived wrong doing I can say at best you would need to consider many things, listen to all involved and concerned parties views and thoughts if they can be found and then review those and any actions taken.

The DP moto should be: don't make quick judgments, don't rush to BAN. Reassure those involved that you are listening and that when you have made a decision they will be informed.

Blondie asks: Where did you get your name from?

My Husband - Myn!

DustiTwister

I have posted on my userpage all the above questions with a place on the page for anyone to post questions upon. Feel free to ask and I will answer. DustiTwister's DP Page Thank you for taking the time to get to know who we are. Hugzz

Hanid

Who: I started in Tale 3, and the reason I play this game is its nonviolent nature and camaraderie that has developed over time. I am not a heavy hitter as far as leveling, preferring growing and creating things. My spouse is Spooner, and we have lived in SW most of T4. In RL I live in the USA and currently train horses and riders, give seminars and am a Fédération Equestre Internationale (Olympic governing body) judge. My job is to ensure the fairness of competitions, primarily in countries other than my own.

The "role model" certainly is appropriate and really would require no change for any potential DPs, because I would like to believe we all behaved ourselves before being considered for election or our peers wouldn't have put us forward as candidates:-)

Why vote for me? I have experience arbitrating "sports/games" and am perfectly capable of banning, though this would be my last choice. I trust the voting people of Egypt to make good decisions.

DP Debate Monday January 4 18:00 UTC

Dreasimy: Hello and welcome to the January 2009 DP Debate! The finalists are BlueGrass, DustiTwister, Halana, Hanid, Myna, and Sterling. Myna and DustiTwister could not attend today's debate and send their apologies. I will be posting some of their answers for them when it applies. Please hold non-debate related chat until after we are done, if you like you can post other messages to GOO (type /join GOO) in the mean time. Halana and Sterling are not here yet but Hanid has limited time so we will start on time and hope they arrive shortly.
Dreasimy: First I'll ask the candidates to tell us a little about themselves and what they like about ATITD. Please go ahead when you are ready :)
Orrin: Just pointing out Dusti can't be with us cos she's in hospital a few more days
Dreasimy: ~~~
Dreasimy: Myna: I've been playing Atitd since early Tale 3 and have spent many hours enjoying both the friends I have made and the game itself. As an Australian based player I meet many 'night owls' in this game who enjoy ATITD at various random late hours. I play for fun and when I am able. I travel a lot for work and, like this game, find myself waiting around at Chariot Stops, fondly called Airports in the real world, with time to kill.
Dreasimy: Myna: ATITD is a tool to share some laughs, chat, run around doing insane things to pass tests, help other fellow guildies and players, a bit of reasoning to understand the processes and not to mention the grind necessary to achieve!
Hanid: I guess the best thing that I have been involved with was starting a Garden of Eden project in T3. All of Egypt was welcome to add to it and we had a great party :-)
Dreasimy: What do you feel the role of DP is?
BlueGrass: I see the DP role as that of a leader in our community. A role model on how people should act towards each other. I've always lived by the motto "treat people the same way that you would want other people to treat you." The more you help others out the more that others will be willing to help you out in time of need. The DP should be there once parties have realized there is no common ground that can be settled on. The DP should be the person that is able to look at the problem from both sides and then be able to help each of the parties come to a compromise if needed. I hope that I can fill that position.
Dreasimy: Myna: I have some detailed responses to components of this questions if you are interested to continue reading please visit my wiki page here:
Dreasimy: Myna: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/User:Myna

Hanid: To me a good DP is virtually invisible. If the need for action arises, the first choice is always a solution other than banning. To ban it is important to remember first and foremost this is a game, and as such there are expectations on what is appropriate according to the code of conduct, passed by the Egyptian citizens. The "role model" certainly is appropriate and really would require no change for any potential DPs, because I would like to believe we all behaved ourselves before being considered for election or our peers wouldn't have put us forward as candidates:-)
Dreasimy: Why do you think people should vote for you?
Dreasimy: ~~~
Dreasimy: Myna: You know, I don't really think it is for me to assume that people should vote for me, all I can do is move forward and await the outcome. I haven't spent hours running around to every chariot stop to announce to the whole of the game player base that I am here and running for DP - I personally don't like doing that. I also haven't posted numerous messages on E! or Regional channels about the upcoming election.
Dreasimy: Myna: Again, if you care to know more about me and are considering whether to vote for me please continue to read on my wiki page:
Dreasimy: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/User:Myna
Hanid: I have experience arbitrating "sports/games" and am perfectly capable of banning, though this would be my last choice. Power here is not important to me, and I recognise the DP role as a thankless job that can lead to burn out. I do want to give something back, because I appreciate being able to play here with good people. I trust the voting people of Egypt to make good decisions.
BlueGrass: I feel that I have a lot to give as regards time and I enjoy playing, I'm more than wiling to help out where I can and think that keeping the community working together here is a great think for all of us. It helps all of us if we help each other.
BlueGrass: that is the one of the many reasons that I've pursued becomeing a DP for the last 3 elections. I think that show my commitment to the community
BlueGrass: I'm willing to server and help egypt when I can
Dreasimy: Can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were involved in? And/or can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were not directly involved in?
Dreasimy: i.e. one where you acted as one of the parties in the conflict and one where you perhaps acted as mediator or problem solver...
Dreasimy: (Since DustiTwister has some of these answers already posted on her wiki page I'll be posting them if they are pertinent to some of the 'on the fly' questions I'm asking during the debate.)
Dreasimy: DustiTwister: The role of DP for myself, means, Being a citizen to depend on. I feel DP is a role that plays a big part in determining a solution to problems that two people might not otherwise think of. DP must be a good listener, problem solver, and most of all be fair in all issues.
BlueGrass: It comes down to been able to see both sides of the situation and finding the common ground
Hanid: Early on in this tale there were many land usage conflicts and slander cases. The laws of Egypt do not allow for ownership at this point. So in this case resettling or quitting the game was the only solution for some.
Hanid: My role in this was simply to paint a happier picture of relocating, providing mats, hand holding and a fair share of empathy, based on my own personal experience. Pretty small thing . . . .
Hanid: In RL I have had to reprimand leaders of nations rofl
Dreasimy: What is more important in a DP: their ability to handle bans responsibly or their not taking advantage of their immunity from DP bans?
BlueGrass: Short and sweet:I think that both are equally important.
Hanid: That is an easy one for me, but probably not the answer you want :-)
Hanid: I do not think DPs should have immunity and believe they should be treated like any other citizen.
Hanid: Second, the whole point of electing our peers to the role of DP is to choose people who will use their banning ability with the utmost care and contemplation.
Dreasimy: Blondie asks: Where did you get your name from?
Hanid: my real name backwards because I didn't think I would ever play longer than Welcome Island
BlueGrass: My best friend helped me setup my ipod when I first got it and he asked me what I should name it so I said it should have music as a meaning so we looked up music and thats how I found my name. My friend still calls me BlueGrass when he calls me on the phone.
Dreasimy: What types of things would you take into account when faced with a situation involving explosives or griefing if you were the only active DP?
Hanid: 1) Collect data from all parties/witnesses
Hanid: 2) Inspect the site of damage
Hanid: 3) Try to meet face to face with people involved
Hanid: 4) Render a decision with the facts available
Hanid: 5) Make those facts available to other DPs
Hanid: 6) Run for cover :-)
BlueGrass: I would need to find out what was the provication of the Explosive or Greifing was then work with the parties and find a solution. Most of time there is something that sets someone off and then things get out of hand. The ideal sitituation is to catch the situation before it get to that point
Dreasimy: Now I'd like to ask the candidates to make their final remarks (as one of the two candidates who made it to this debate has to log out right now) :)
Hanid: It has been a pleasure to be in the company of other talented potential DPs. I am confident the choice Egyptian voters make will be well thought out and I wish all well. There are lots of good choices in this group!
Orrin: Question: Should GMs figure in your 'list of punishments' as DP?
Dreasimy: There was a reason I asked for questions before the debate started, we only had a limited time :) Sorry Orrin only one candidate left.
Orrin: spur of the moment thing ;)
Orrin: Still, what's their answer?
BlueGrass: Thank-you very much Dreasimy for hosting the Debate and I wish all canidtates the best for the election and best wishes to Dusti hope you make a speedy recovery
BlueGrass: My info is also on my userpage and if you feel that there is still something you wish to know from me please chat me and I'll be glad to answer
BlueGrass: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/User:BlueGrass/DP
BlueGrass: Orrin are you say that if a GM did something that wrong would they still face a ban?
Orrin: nah, would involving a GM feature on the list of things to do before banning someone for an offense?
Orrin: Let Teppy deal with GM behaviour
BlueGrass: Yes I would if they could help in providing facts would be helpfull in resolving a situation
Orrin: but not to solicit GM-only punishments, such as isolation?
Dreasimy: It looks like Sterling and Halana were confused on the day we were doing the debate and were expecting it to be tomorrow - sorry about that :)
BlueGrass: Yes if it would help the situation then maybe isolation would be a form of punishment
Dreasimy: Im trying to find out if Sterling would like to add some statements here at the end of the debate now that he's online :) for now here's a word from our sponsor:
ShuoftheFieryHeat: stillwater pressie wiki list updated - a few new pressies exposed
firegolem: im still tryin gto find my last cartwheels facet. willign to travel.
Dreasimy: Again, Myna is sorry she could not be here due to work but congratulates the other candidates and and gives her best wishes for the election. DustiTwister was going to try to attend but is in the hospital and was unable to be here. Thanks :)
Halana: Hello, all sorry I missed the debate, thought it was tomorrow
Halana: I joined this game last August when Simsonline folded. Have been playing here since. Our camp is in SW near the U of Body.
Halana: I enjoy the building we get to do in this game. The collecting of mats, making one item that then goes into other items for a finished building or object that will help make our life here easier.
Halana: I have lots of free time so I have the time it takes to enjoy game and help others.
Halana: Except for Mushrooms test, I really enjoy the body test.
Halana: and tapping toe waiting for swimming.....
Halana: Role of DP... since the only job they have is to ban players....and that does not seem to be happening.....the role of DP has been trying to change...to be a more helpful for players...to solove problem...again not sure that has much impac in Egypt.....
Halana: Would like to see the law for DP's to be able to pick up left over junk (that seems to be scattered all over Egypt) pass
Halana: hint... people pick up after yourselfs....wood planes are cheap to make...we dont need public ones all over the place...when done using them tear down
Halana: Why should people vote for me...Well...I would not be afraid to use the ban...it was called for a few weeks ago...was not used...which was a shame....good players left the game.
Halana: It is so sad to see so many of the old players quit
jazkar: First to chat gets a coords for rat tracks.
Halana: I well if u need more info...chat me
Orrin: If I can just interrupt as a DP, you really think you'd use a ban?
jazkar: Rat claimed.
Halana: I have read your feelings on this....
Halana: do nothing cause it can be worked around
Halana: I dont agree with that
Orrin: can you give me an example of when a ban would be useful?
Halana: yes, it shows a stand
Halana: it shows that even though someone can be banned and can get a new account,
Halana: that what they did was not acceptable
Halana: was wrong
Orrin: that's not an example of use
Orrin: that's a statement of self-justification
Halana: well take it as u wish
Halana: dps have let this game down by not taking a stand
Halana: anythign goes
Halana: we have bombs
Halana: what u going to do when someone blows up yoru cp
Orrin: You're right Halana, people with explosives are everywhere waiting to detonate our charriots and schools
Orrin: DPs have done nothing to combat this threat and it is time we took a stand! Ban anyone that makes an explosive!
Halana: get real
Halana: did i say that
Halana: real it in Orrin
Dreasimy: Ok let's move on :) Halana I posted a couple of the other questions the candidates answered earlier on the same wiki page as before:
Dreasimy: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/Demi-Pharaoh/Jan2010
Orrin: I return it to *you*, how would you solve a simple dispute, ban the person you think caused the most trouble?
Dreasimy: Would you like to address any of those questions at this time (or Sterling too?)
Dreasimy: I didn't mean to post that from Orrin
Dreasimy: Can I suggest that Orrin, maybe you could post these questions on the same wiki above so every candidate has an opportunity to answer them :)
Halana: Orrin, simple disputes do not need ban, and you are a bit silly to even say that
Orrin: Then why have 'DPs' let Egypt down?
Halana: Cause when a ban has been called for they sat on their thumbs and did nothing...........
Orrin: The difference between a DP and a player is the ban. Why should DPs carry the blame for everything that goes on? We aren't omniscient, omnipotent, omni-anything
Orrin: I can think of two occasions when a ban was called for, in both situations the problem was resolved without a ban and the massive outcry a ban would have caused. Your point is?
Halana: wrong
Dreasimy: can you cite a specific example where a ban was called for, and not giiven but you thought one should have been?
Halana: if in the two occasions the ban had hppened, there would of been alot less upset
Halana: yes last year when a cp got blow up and we dont need to go into that, we all know what happened
Halana: then this tale, with the cp that was build in a shape that was hurtful to others
Orrin: The events I'm thinking of were what's-his-face that 'hacked an account' and the 'swastika' cp
ShuoftheFieryHeat: adn pressie wiki list updated - a few additions
Halana: if in each case the dps had taken care of the problem right away, there would not of been the uset that followed
Halana: upset
Orrin: Riiiight... so you're dragging *this* tale's DPs through the dirt in reference to something that happen *last* tale when they may not had been DPs
Trillian: so you think the guy who built the badly shaped cp should of just been banned right off the mark....no questions asked ?
Halana: hey orrin, u think banning should not happen, which is why i dont understand why you even wanted to be dp, that is the only job dps have stated by teppy (this game)
Orrin: and if you're refering the 'explosives' incident to Cathy, then there was a technical restriction on that, DPs couldn't have banned her.
Halana: again, trillian, no quesions asked??? of couse the dps should of asked questions, then make a move done something,
TheMazeEcho: Orrin wanted to be DP to be unbannable ;)
Dreasimy: Let's move on if we can please :)
Dreasimy: I think her stance is relatively clear if not agreed with by everyone
Halana: why what does orrin have planned for us
Orrin: Oh yah, just dont tell anyone about that massive stash of explosives the DP guild has...
Orrin: And Halana, re-read it, you may then *understand* it
Trillian: the dp's did sort it out its been resolved without resorting to a ban, so they actually did do thier jobs....at which point exactly would u have preffered it if they had banned him then?
Halana: orrin, i understand you.....
Aubery: <---thorws Halan a string of garlic
Dreasimy: Ok Im not posting anything else on this topic from anyone :)
Dreasimy: Please feel free to discuss this on the wiki or after we conclude this 'debate'
Dreasimy: Halana or Sterling can you let me know if you want to address any of the other debate questions that were covered this morning?
Dreasimy: They can be found here:
Dreasimy: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/Demi-Pharaoh/Jan2010
Dreasimy: Because Trillian the topic has been covered and I don't want to continue holding up regular E! traffic for a redundant argument, she answered, you guys disagree we are moving on :)
Sterling: oh I agree with Halana
Dreasimy: once the debate is 'over' another mod can post whatever they want :)
Halana: With conflicts I am involved in....
Halana: I go two ways, one say out front what I dont like
Halana: I get more upset when I think people are being cheated
Halana: or two, i just tell the person I cant talk now...I want to wait until I am not upset before I try and resolve anything
Halana: and when i handled conflict for others, right up front, what was done that was wrong
Halana: how it should be fixed
Halana: Sorry did not know that being a DP makes one immunity for bans....is that a teppy law or a dp law.....a dp should NOT have immunity from a ban.......I think that is a very sad rule ....being a dp should not set anyone up as king
Halana: or queen
Dreasimy: it's a teppy law so to speak, that's the way he wants DPs, that's the risk he wants us to have to take
Halana: but then teppy does like conflict and drama
Halana: kk with that said, being dp their abilty to ban is way more and should be the only thing important to a dp, not the immunity
Dreasimy: to be clear for everyone she is answering this question asked earlier: What is more important in a DP: their ability to handle bans responsibly or their not taking advantage of their immunity from DP bans?
Robare: Halana....you seem to be very emotional......while I admire that trait in people....it's good to be passionate....do you think thiat is a good quality to have in a DP?
Dreasimy: Halana is going to address a previous question from this morning: What types of things would you take into account when faced with a situation involving explosives or griefing if you were the only active DP?
Halana: kk here goes.....this should get orrin hopping.....if i am dp, and anyone goes out of their way, to make a bomb, walk over to someone's cp, or to a cs and blows up someone elses camp or the public cs they should be banned
Aubery: Why is the emphasis more on Ban and not on teaching?? this tale has been burned out on blame and not treating other's with respect in regards to sensitive issues
Halana: Robare....yes
Orrin: Nah not really, that's pretty much what I said I'd do, *if* you'd read it ;)
Dreasimy: Halana is going to respond to a question Blondie asked earlier, where did your name come from?
Halana: my name came from Simsonline...was the name i had there...Helen I was goign for was taken so I came up with Halana
Halana: kk I think that is all the questions posted on wiki
Yerbouti: if someone is caught red handed and generally takes the "screw you" defense, it's not a teaching moment
BlueGrass: We are all here because of the friendly community we were introduced to when we first started the game. The help that we give new people should be the help that we give everyone old and new.
Dreasimy: Thank you Halana, if you or Sterling have any closing comments now is the time :)
Rabble: My only question for DP candidates is 'where are all the beehive mushrooms?'
Halana: Rabble when i find one i will tell you.....have yet to see one
Halana: mp Dreasim, thank you for hosting and letting me post after the fact
BlueGrass: there are 21 beehive spots each day apparently so they are out there
Halana: I think we find people we enjoy chating and working toward goals with
Dreasimy: I want to thank the candidates for their time today as well as Myna and DustiTwister who provided some pre-written responses I was able to post on their behalf. You can find more info and a log of this debate on this wiki page:
Dreasimy: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale4/Demi-Pharaoh/Jan2010
Dreasimy: as well as links to personal wiki pages of most of the candidates :)
SpicyXX: bah lol anyone seen bloodbark
SpicyXX: looks like hawthorne but redish
BlackBeast: Beehive mushrooms becomes a myst by every day passes and no one seem to meet them
Halana: Mushroom test needs to be rethought
Dreasimy: It looks like that's it, thanks again, I now return you to your regular programming :)
