Gearboxes

Basic Gearbox Information

Gear boxes are hard to work with because the nominclature is hard to figure out.

x/n - means the gears are adjacent. This is call a MESH.

x * n - means the gears are on top of each other AND the next row(s) of gears need a spacer underneath them (or other gear).

All gears must start at A1. This is called the INPUT.

All gears finish on ROW 8 This is the OUTPUT row.

The target gear must have the required output on ROW 8 + THE LETTER indicated in the gear request.
eg H120 - must have 120% on row H8 to be "correct". This is called the OUTPUT.

If 2 gear boxes are described - you need 2 gear boxes (quarries). The gear boxes may have more outputs than requested.
eg 3 output box will work for a 2 output request - provided the 2 of those outputs are correct.

There can be a max of 3 gears (gears or spacers) on 1 peg.

If gears "jam" its because they are on the wrong layer.

There is a max of 15 pegs

There is a max of 30 gears (total)


Gears have specific orientations.

Size 3 gears can be next to each other in a staight line.

Size 4 gears can form a diagnonal chain

Size 6 gears form a "knight's move = 2 up+1 over. Rarely used in a chain as 6 is expensive to make.
