Beginners Guide to Bureau with TPS

So you’ve reached level 8 and picked up your Test of the Bureaucrat principles tab. To pass bureau principles, you will need to get hired into a bureau and then hire one more person. This is a guide to the basics of bureau, written for people thinking of joining Towering Palm Society (TPS) bureau guild.

Test of the bureaucrat is a leadership test, and it’s all about organizing and hiring trusted people into a structured team. You earn points based on the number of people recruited below you in the bureaucracy. TPS guild was formed to help its members set up and fill bureaus more easily. TPS members are people with an interest in the test (some to pass the test, others just to help out and pass principles, others who have already passed and stay to help others). Members agree not to seize bureaus and to hire people only from the TPS approved hiring list (to try and avoid seizures happening).

Getting Accepted into TPS

  • Talk to the person who told you about TPS and ask them about getting vetted, so you can get your name on the approved hiring list. This isn’t as complicated as it sounds! Someone who is already a trusted member of TPS (has taken part in at least 2 bureaus) needs to sponsor your application and vouch for you. You will be chatted by one of the TPS guild vetters (_______ for English speakers or ________ for French speakers). Reply to the chat they open with you and answer their questions.
  • Go and apply at the TPS guild hall, near the chariot stop in Shabbat Ab ( 1428, 1810 )
  • Read the test description page, and clarify anything you don’t understand.

How the Structure of the Bureau Works

A bureau is built by someone who has earned a bureau opportunity by collecting signatures. They are the executive of their bureau and can hire 3 directors. Each director can then hire 3 people beneath them and so on down the structure (Executive, director, administrator, manager, supervisor, foreman, worker). In TPS, worker positions are taken by people who have already passed the test, and by mules. As a new guild member, you will usually be a foreman in your first bureau. This will enable you to pass bureau principles when the first bureau you join finishes. Bureaus last for 14 Teppy days.

How to Get Hired

When the bureau starts, you need to get hired in. The person who told you about TPS would probably like to hire you – talk to them first. For your first bureau you will be hired as a foreman. You then need to recruit 3 workers. If your supervisor hasn’t suggested workers you can hire, check the hiring list’s worker section.

During the Bureau

Once you are hired, you (or your supervisor) should edit the TPS wiki pages to add “Hired” next to your name in the hiring list and to add your name to the structure list of the current bureau. Please ask for help if you have difficulties editing the wiki.

You will earn a point for each day you are in the bureau, and for each person beneath you in the bureau (e.g. a foreman who hired 3 workers at the start of the bureau can get 14 days x 3+1 people = 56 points)
