Overview

In the Test of the Kingmaker, you will try to predict, and even influence, who will win such elections.

Principles

  • Register as a Demi-Pharaoh candidate (at a Voting Booth, not the University)
  • Participate in three rounds of Demi-Pharaoh elections (see below)
  • Make Three Forecasts as Kingmaker (at a Voting Booth)

Demonstrate the Principle

Be a lawmaker.

Demonstrated by Eldrad in Pyramid Lake on 2008-12-24.

Details

New for Tale 4, becoming a Demi-Pharaoh does not give a test pass. Instead, players must forecast which players will win the elections.

As of this writing, it is not clear whether the test passes require a set number of correct forecasts, or whether (more likely?) there will be competitive passes, as for the Test of the Prophet.

Demi-Pharaoh Elections

Timing

Demi-Pharaoh election periods are announced via the Calendar, approximately once a month. Players may sign up during the specified time (generally 48 hours) at a Voting Booth.

  • Players may also sign up to be enrolled in upcoming elections automatically.
  • Players may also withdraw from an election (or all upcoming elections) at the booth.

Process

The election is a multi-step process.

  1. All players who are signed up at the end of the election period are split into small groups of seven or fewer.
    • GMs may not participate.
    • Players must have been logged in within 7 days of the round starting.
  2. For each round, group members share a chat channel for several days, for discussions.
    • Each participant may vote for one of the members of their group at a Voting Booth.
    • At the end of the round, the player with the most votes from the group advances. If there is a tie, no player advances.
  3. This process continues until seven or fewer candidates remain.
  4. An Egypt-wide election is then held in which all citizens may participate.
  5. The candidate who receives the most votes in this election becomes a Demi-Pharaoh.

Powers

Each Demi-Pharaoh gains the ability to permanently ban up to seven people (character, not player) from Egypt.

  • The ban applies to the character, not to the player. A player whose character is banned is free to create a new character.
  • Demi-Pharaohs may not use their power to ban each other.
  • At the moment, a Demi-Pharaoh must click on a person to ban them. This physical limitation is not intended to be a restriction on the ban power: if a Demi-Pharaoh requests that someone be banned, it will happen.

Term

Demi-Pharaohs are elected for life. There is no way to remove a Demi-Pharaoh from office once elected. However, a Demi-Pharaoh may be banned through the legal system in the usual manner. The legal system may not be used to limit the powers of a Demi-Pharaoh or interfere with the election process, however it may be used to extend powers.
