'''This is as much of a log as I was able to get and will continue to add to throughout the round, there ARE pieces missing and while I have tried to eliminate repetition caused when I kept copying the window to try and get everything there may still be some of it. If you see any repetition feel free to remove it.'''

* Babalu: Yes I am, so are the rest but for Raihz
 +
* Babalu: The idea is to give each one time to state why they want to become DP's
 +
* Kirean: Ah right im GMT so I may miss the debate :/
 +
* Babalu: well, you miss the chance to talk on line, but aparently Draim can link what is going to be said to a wiki page, you can follow it there
 +
* Kirean: ah cool :)
 +
* Babalu: and if he is online when you say your piece he can perhaps do the same
 +
* Babalu: so we are trying to give everybody kind of equal oportunity to debate

* Draim: I'm happy to give my speech/listen to other/debate whenever though :)
 +
* Babalu: Well, would you like to start Draim?
 +
* Babalu: Or should I?
 +
* Babalu: Or ladies first?
 +
* Draim: sure I'm happy to start
 +
* Babalu: ok, go ahead
 +
* Draim: In general I see a DP as someone who can help make the game better for everyone else. Hopefully they should be someone who enjoys doing that (who enjoys making things "go well" ) because I think in general they often end up putting some of what they would want to do on the back burner when issues arise :) I generally see the use of any "action" as preventive rather then punitve. To me banning someone (or "arresting" them if anyone has seen my law) just to "punish" is rarely helpful. That does not mean it can't be used to stop a problem that continues or to put a stop to an on going issue.
 +
* Draim: It is one of the things I like about the "arrest" deal in my law that we were talking about earlier. Basically a way to say "freeze! let's talk this out because I find that you usually can. I am also a fan of using temp bans when at all possible instead of permenant ones (still with the idea that a ban is a last resort)
 +
* Draim: at least for 1 type of issue:
 +
* Draim: I think there are 2 broad catagories of people that can be a problem.
 +
* Draim: 1 is the sterotypical "griefer" who is trying to upset people. These people exist but they are much rarer. I'll be honest when I say I put geodude under this category at first but after talking to him at length I'm not totally sure he belonged there (at least fully) he was still a problem but wasn't the complete griefer that I originally thought.
 +
* Draim: The 2nd type is the one that is much much more common and is generally a player who's upset and the key word there is "player" in the way that it is someone who actually wants to play this game, who wants to pass tests/lvl/do whatever. Those situations are usually the most difficult but they are also the ones that in the end can almost always be solved without a permenant ban (unless you screw up somehow along the way).
 +
* Draim: Why? Because they want to play, they can be reasoned with and worked with and usually in the end neither party is totally without fault.
 +
* Draim: I think a DP needs to be able to listen and mediate first and foremost. They may at times be asked to make a decision because both parties would prefer a 3rd party to do it (or because 1 or the other basically forces it) but usually the most workable end result comes about because the parties agree to it in the end and someone Just needs to barter that. Mediateing and listening can of course include "ideas" on how to end it amicably as well but it is better if they come to the same conclusion :)
 +
* Draim: I think those who have listened in since Orishas was elected have noticed that people do indeed call for a DP when they have concerns and disputes even when no one really thinks a ban would be even close to in order and while yes almost all the "dispute resolution" could be done without being DP I think the argument I hear often in first rounds about a DP not being important is a little bit BS. They end up with as close to a community mandate as you can get here and I think in general we all want people to help be that 3rd party.
 +
* Draim: Last election I had a worry about the "repeat banning" of characters who just end up spending money and wasting money
 +
* Draim: *spending money and wasting bans
 +
* Draim: hapilly Riva told us in the last round that Teppy has said he will ban (for good) any player banned twice by a dp (my guess is there is some "I agree with you" policy unsaid there) but I'm actually very happy about that
 +
* Draim: regarding who I am: I'm a 25 year old college senior, hopefully going into the legal field in the next month. I played in Tale 3 and came back for this tale. My  main goal in the tale is Oracle of Arch but other things are nice to :). My "other" online life is that I am very very active on WMF projects (en.wikipedia , commons.wikimedia) as a global sysop and checkuser working to solve abuse issues across all 800 or so of our projects and focusing on copyright issues.
 +
* animis: what is wnf?
 +
* Draim: I guess that is probably enough for here right now... My other thing though (don't know if you want to talk about this now or later) is that I have a law that I wrote extending DP powers. I obviously think that is important and a good idea but would be interested in talking about it with others
 +
* animis: wmf*
 +
* Draim: Wikimedia Foundation
 +
* animis: i see
 +
* animis: yeah just found it on the net
 +
* Draim: it is the larger foundation that runs for example Wikipedia (in 100s of languages) as well as wiktionary, WIkimedia Commons (a free image site) and a couple other smaller but no less imporant in my mind projects :)
 +
* animis: yeah reading just that:)
 +
* Draim: :)
 +
 +
* Raizh: Babalu, you here?
 +
* Babalu: sort of
 +
* Babalu: Animis, you are next
 +
* animis: just say a few words it was you who called for this debate
 +
* animis: ok then
 +
* animis: i see this more as a presentation than debate
 +
* animis: i am 41, female from sweden
 +
* Raizh: Hurrah stump speeches
 +
* animis: europe:-X
 +
* animis: i agree with everything draim said
 +
* animis: but
 +
* animis: i also tend to see this as both just a test and a responsability towards other players
 +
* animis: that means i am trying to fix problems even if I am not a DP
 +
* animis: and that if i would ever become a DP i wouldn't go around with a high hat bragging about it
 +
* animis: does that make sense?
 +
* animis: cause i'm writing this now, i don't have a ready speach
 +
* animis: people make a big thing about the bann, the only "power" a dp gets
 +
* animis: i would use that only when i've tried everything i can (talking etc)
 +
* animis: and nothign else works
 +
* animis: but i guess this is something almost all candidates say
 +
* animis: hmm let's see what else
 +
* animis: i care for other people, i have humor, i like to solve problems
 +
* animis: and i never forget this is a game
 +
* animis: well ask me if you want more:D
 +
* Babalu: Thats very good Animis
 +
* Babalu: One question
 +
* animis: sure
 +
* Babalu: On the first DP debate you kind of cheared for Geodude
 +
* Babalu: Why?
 +
* animis: cheared?
 +
* Babalu: Or rather on a debate on B' before it
 +
* animis: i believe it wasn't a debate
 +
* Babalu: you said you wanted to marry him, lol
 +
* animis: it was a spontanious chatt about him
 +
* animis: yes i would
 +
* animis: and also i think some people take some things way too serious sometimes
 +
* Babalu: Iliked what he said, it was smart
 +
* animis: but why not marry him? he wuld proly be a beats in bed
 +
* animis: hehehe
 +
* animis: yes not many people knew he was very smart
 +
* animis: well tbh i wondered if he wasn't teppy :D
 +
* animis: too bad he didn't want to marry me
 +
* Babalu: lol
 +
* animis: but then again i would proly hold him back from his actions:D
 +
* Raizh: I'm slightly surprised he didn't marry you so he could then walk around as you and do... things :P
 +
* Babalu: ok, fair enough
 +
* Raizh: He was certainly an enigma though
 +
* animis: i don't think he was interested in doing things as another
 +
* animis: 1. he wanted attention for himself
 +
* animis: 2. i have a feeling he really just wannted to fire up us
 +
* Babalu: Or rather on a debate on B' before it
 +
* animis: i believe it wasn't a debate

 +
* animis: wanted*
 +
Draim nods
 +
* animis: tbh
 +
* animis: i've met much worse players
 +
* Draim: he also to be honest rarely did anything "without a reason"
 +
* animis: i think it was in T2
 +
* Draim: I talked to him for a good 2 hours... was interesting
 +
* animis: yes indeed draim
 +
* animis: i had in T2 a player stalking me
 +
* animis: he would say he was a child
 +
* animis: i tried to protect him
 +
* animis: then when he was too much and i wanted 5 minutes for myself
 +
* animis: he would say things i don't even want to repeat
 +
* animis: I think he got banned
 +
* animis: so imo geo wasn't even near a bann:)
 +
* animis: he would come to SA and say: i am here to build 100 obi
 +
* animis: do you have anything to say?
 +
* animis: we all laughed and chatted with him
 +
* Raizh: Well, he stopped with the dig stealing after a bit
 +
* animis: i think he was a bit disapointed we didn't care
 +
* Raizh: That was probably the worst, as it was more exploiting a bad game system
 +
* animis: dunno, but i hope it was hi way of pointing the game need improvements:)
 +
* animis: his*
 +
* Raizh: But anyways... Babalu, you're next, right?
 +
* Raizh: Don't want to run out of time talking about Geodude
 +
* Babalu: ok
 +
* animis: yep
 +
* Raizh: And thanks, animis.
 +
* animis: yw
 +
* Babalu: Fist, I am multitasking so bare mith me
 +
* animis: I think he got banned

 +
* Babalu: Fist, I am multitasking so bare mith me
 +
* Babalu: I am a 46 year old man from Colombia
 +
* Babalu: Ex manager of a plastics manufacturing company
 +
* Babalu: currently unemployed
 +
* Babalu: Why do I want to become a Dp?
 +
* Babalu: Because Dp's are not really doing what they could
 +
* Babalu: DP's have a huge influence with people
 +
* Babalu: and they could really use that influence to better the game
 +
* Babalu: How?
 +
* Babalu: By appling preasure
 +
* Babalu: Preassure on the company and teppy to implement the laws that are voted
 +
* Babalu: And which laws? well better laws hopefully
 +
* Babalu: How do you get better laws
 +
* Babalu: By using DP influence and help organize a congress
 +
* Babalu: A parliement made up of representatives from each region, elected in informal elections
 +
* Babalu: Most probably the people that like to debate and propose change
 +
* Babalu: I have seen many GREAT ideas lost in informal debates on B' because the people who say them are overshadowed by more knoledgable or just noisy players
 +
* Babalu: so I think we need aplace where orderly discussion of ideas and issues that affect egypt could be done
 +
* Babalu: and the best laws from the best interested minds be written
 +
* Babalu: so, I think by beeing a DP I can help to acieve that
 +
* Babalu: *achieve
 +
* Babalu: As to the rest of the
 +
* Babalu: DP powers and mission, I can not add anything more to what has been said allready
 +
* Babalu: I trully believe
 +
* Babalu: that by using the good will DP's have something can be done to organize preassure and have those laws that we really want implemented
 +
* Babalu: It is shamefull that many weeks go by and nothing is done in that regard by the company
 +
* Raizh: How exactly do you propose to get Teppy to listen and/or do things more often?
 +
* Babalu: So, basically imo DPs have great power that is beeing wasted I want to change that pulling ghether all DP's to achieve real change
 +
* Babalu: Riots?
 +
* Babalu: Burn everything down?
 +
* Raizh: Heh
 +
* Babalu: I dont know yet, but comunal outcryes organized and supported by DPs good will could work
 +
* Raizh: I'm just saying, I think the main thing Teppy cares about are subscriptions
 +
* animis: idd

* Babalu: DP's have a great influence with players and they should use that
 +
* Babalu: If treats is what he needs, organized treats he should get
 +
* Babalu: So, thats it, I am a real revolt griefer
 +
* Draim: in general they need to be more active I completly agree. The general idea of it at the moment is basically that it's "a title" (that doesn't even show up on your character) and people don't really do much
 +
* Raizh: Agreed
 +
* Babalu: That can be changed by other DP's with equal status
 +
* Babalu: get those DP's that dont use their powers of convidction to the fullest to start doing it
 +
* animis: tbh i think you can do that with "common" players too
 +
* Babalu: To inflict real change in the way things are done by the company
 +
* Babalu: Yeah, REVOLUTION
 +
* Draim: I like your congress idea, Usi in my last round had a great idea that I plan on trying to help him start regardless of how far I move on for a "consititution" type deal that sets up what is expected of rights and responsibilities of people and some understanding of what DPs are expected to do (while still leaving freedom for them to interpret which I think is important)
 +
* Babalu: I love that
 +
** 1 day 17 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
 +
* Babalu: Thats what I want a congress for
 +
* Babalu: to organize real laws, from the best interested minds
 +
* Babalu: Because our current legal system is terrible
 +
* Babalu: You have an idea, maybe good, meybe bad, perhaps you debate it a bit in B'
 +
* Babalu: Get some feedback, write the law, and start getting sigs
 +
Draim nods
 +
* Draim: I think we need to get a system together that does 2 things
 +
* Babalu: And hope and pray to get enough to be able to go for a ballot, if notpreviously vetoed by the company
 +
* Babalu: Yes Draim, go ahead
 +
* Draim: 1. helps us get better "real laws" into the game system (/cough /cough my DP powers law) but also a new set of laws that we pass among egypt that isn't game related
 +
* Draim: since waiting to get 1 law voted in every month and then coded god knows when isn't helpful when they don't all need to actually be coded
 +
* Babalu: Right
 +
* Babalu: A real code of conduct
 +
Draim nods
 +
* Raizh: Yeah, the major major roadblock is how infrequent ballots are and that a maximum of one law passes each time
 +
* Draim: if we don't want to we don't even need to use the ingame voting system, private chests held by DP guild where someone puts in one of the carved "name chits" to vote?
 +
* Babalu: Yeah, thats what I mean
 +
* animis: could do
 +
* Babalu: And DP's could rally people to those ballots
 +
* Raizh: Are we talking about mainly conduct laws or statements of intents or what?
 +
* Draim: could be either or
 +
* Babalu: Whatever congress sees fit
 +
* Raizh: I mean, sure, that sounds nice
 +
* Raizh: But that's not exactly enforceable or functional in implementation
 +
* Babalu: So, lets elect all of us as DP´s
 +
* Raizh: Will people care?
 +
* Draim: perhaps not but all you can do is try
 +
* Babalu: DP,s will enforce those laws
 +
* Babalu: not the games laws alone
 +
* Draim: I would bet you could get them into it at least at some level
 +
* Raizh: Can you give me an example of a law such as that you would like to pass?
 +
* Raizh: *that could be passed/made in that format, not through regular ballot
 +
* animis: good question
 +
* Babalu: A basic code of conduct
 +
* Babalu: IE: Stealing is wrong
 +
* Babalu: Open stealing with witnesses will be punished
 +
* Babalu: What punishment? congress will determin thet
 +
* Babalu: *that
 +
* Babalu: This is a society
 +
* Babalu: lets get it to act like one
 +
* Raizh: So, the establishment of a judicial system?
 +
* Babalu: Right, among other things
 +
* animis: i think i've heard all this before in T2
 +
* Babalu: perhaps courts too
 +
* Babalu: Lots of Drama for sure
 +
* Raizh: I'm gonna be honest
 +
* Draim: or something along the lines of "an egyptian will be expected to have respect for the land around a players compounds and if proven to be done in malice will face x"
 +
* Raizh: That seems very ambitious and very idealistic
 +
* Babalu: Perhaps
 +
* Babalu: but it could work
 +
* Raizh: Mainly... if you're going to set something up like that, it needs to be much more organized
 +
* Draim: aye it does :)
 +
* Babalu: If new tales and shards are to aim of maintainig the same players over long periods
 +
* Draim: just throwing out things that you "could do"
 +
* Raizh: As in, set specific expectations that the laws will be part of a legal system that will be enforced
 +
* Babalu: what better than a really organized society
 +
* Raizh: That a specific group will be set up under certain rules to make judgment
 +
* Raizh: And that specific punishments will be enacted - which at this point would be limited to bans of some extent, I suppose
 +
* Babalu: It is democracy and Judiciary System in RL, it might work here too
 +
* Raizh: I am *really* not a fan of super grand schemes without any thought in execution or basis in reality though
 +
Draim coughs about his law again
 +
* animis: lol
 +
* Draim: Have you seen my arrest idea Raizh?
 +
* Raizh: I have, actually
 +
* Draim: what do you think?
 +
* Raizh: And I think it's a good extension of powers
 +
* Draim: Have you seen my arrest idea Raizh?
 +
* Raizh: I have, actually
 +
* Draim: what do you think?
 +
* Raizh: And I think it's a good extension of powers
 +
* Babalu: Well, Rahiz, that is at least what I am aiming for, to get people thinking about it
 +
* Raizh: At the moment, I'm not certain that A) we have enough wide behavioral problems to justify a dedicated legal system
 +
* Draim: I think things like that could be very helpful if we wanted to do something like this
 +
* Babalu: And I could do that better as a DP
 +
* Raizh: and B) that our punisments are limited - the arrest helps with that
 +
* Raizh: And Babalu, my major worry is that without firm achievable goals, nothing will happen
 +
* Babalu: Organized and legally justified public shame s a nice punishment
 +
* Raizh: All of this that you've said could be set up without DPs at all, except for the personal power of ban
 +
* Babalu: My first goal is a congress
 +
* Raizh: And Egypt is notoriously bad at organizing when it comes to issues like this
 +
* Babalu: to have this debates there in an orderlly manner
 +
* animis: exactly my point, you can do all this even if you're not a dp
 +
* Babalu: Yes, and I will
 +
* Babalu: But beeing a DP will help a lot
 +
* Draim: You are right of course that DPs only "have" the power to ban at the moment but they are also the only ones who get some measure of a community mandate (however small) and I think it is quite clear that people do look for them to do things. You're right that the vast majority of it you can do when you aren't a DP and I know I'll work on the thingts I like regardless of if I get it or not but I do think getting it can help me and be another block to stand on to help get things going even without
 +
* Draim: the use of the ban
 +
* Raizh: OK
 +
* Raizh: Now, if Babalu is elected, he will set up this congress, the intent of which is to better organize how we approach laws
 +
* Raizh: Am I correct, Babalu?
 +
* Babalu: Well, folks, RL calls
 +
* Draim: enjoy Babalu :)
 +
* Babalu: Yes, Raihz
 +
* Babalu: thats how I see it
 +
* Raizh: OK, thank you
 +
* Raizh: And have a nice day/night/evening :)
 +
* Raizh: OK: Draim
 +
* Babalu: I hope this minidebate halped us with our decision, and may the best person win
 +
* animis: take care rai
 +
* Raizh: What concrete thing will you do if elected to make Egypt better?
 +
* animis: afk
 +
* Babalu: Try to set up a congress made up of regionally elected representatives
 +
* Babalu: Thats the first goal
 +
* Raizh: I knew that was yours, was asking Draim about his :P
 +
* animis: staying 5 more minutes then
 +
* Babalu: Then, as DP enforce the laws written by that congress and aproved by the majority of Egyptian citicenz
 +
* Babalu: ok
 +
* Babalu: sorry
 +
* animis: :) np baba
 +
* Raizh: NP, and thanks for the answers
 +
* Babalu: see you later folks
 +
* animis: laters baba
 +
* Draim: if elected? I'll be honest I don't see anything that I'll do "if elected" that I won't do "if not elected" I would really like to help Usi with his constitution thing, I think I would be a trustworthy individual with the ban and the arrest if that happens. I like Babalu's Congress idea (which I see has related to Usi's Constitution) and would love to see that implemented. I agree with you in many ways, there isn't really anything I can do as
 +
* Draim: later baba
 +
* Draim: DP that I can't do as DP
 +
* Draim: I would be active, I can say that much, but I don't know if "more active" is the right term that sounds wrong. I would continue to be active and push for as many good things as I can listening to everyone involved and helping to push for good ideas regardless of where they come from
 +
* Raizh: OK
 +

 +
* Raizh: OK
 +
* Raizh: And animis? Same question: What concrete thing if any would you do if elected?
 +
* animis: i have not one big plann or idea, i believe in meeting people, I am very social
 +
* animis: I would most certainly
 +
* animis: encourage people to be more active in making laws
 +
* animis: voting
 +
* animis: trying to change what they are not happy with
 +
* Raizh: What do you see as the biggest problem in Egypt now?
 +
* animis: and who knows, if there would be a revolution i would lead the way to the palace
 +
* animis: problems that are big for some people are not so big for others
 +
* Raizh: Then what's the biggest problem for the most or what's the biggest problem to you?
 +
* animis: guess biggest problem for most right now is this shard's pace
 +
* Raizh: In which direction? Heh
 +
* animis: and my biggest problem is that it taked too long time for laws to be voted and implemented
 +
* animis: well some people think it's going to fast
 +
* animis: and ah the level might be a problem for some people
 +
* animis: the fact that you can't start a test if you're not a specific level
 +
* Raizh: OK, and Draim? Biggest problem right now?
 +
* Raizh: Sorry, I'm just asking questions cause I'm picking grass :)
 +
* animis: hah np
 +
* Raizh: If you guys are terribly busy, I understand
 +
* Draim: is it legit to say the biggest problem is anger? lol they seem to be angry no matter what, I totally agrees the levels are screwy but sheesh we have people whining about it being to slow, to fast, to many tests, not enough tests, teppy not responding, teppy responding and making it to easy
 +
* animis: but rai what do you think is the biggest problem in egypt?
 +
* Draim: my personal feeling is that the biggest problem is apathy, many players have "given up" to a certain extent but you can see glimmers of hope when you do a little cheerleading
 +
* Raizh: I agree to some extent
 +
* Draim: but yes :) what animis said what is your though :)
 +
* Raizh: A lack of coordination and common community is my biggest dislike
 +
* Raizh: But then again, I'm very much concerned with research, which drives that complaint
 +
* Raizh: And every time I talk on B! about how if we all chip in for gem cutting it'd be so much easier
 +
* Raizh: Some wiseass like Knightmare has to talk about how he'd rather hoard them
 +
* Raizh: Granted, he's probably joking, and honestly, I don't mind the guy
 +
* Raizh: But it's rather depressing when trying to push for work together for a common goal
 +
* Draim: he is but yes I understand the frustration. I'm one of the people who kind of says "if they don't want to do research don't make them" because I want people to be able to do what they want because they will stay longer and have more fun but it  is frustrating I agree
 +
* Raizh: Oh definitely
 +
* Raizh: And we're trying to encourage research other than just 'hey, you need to do boring work for us'
 +
* Draim: though I have to be honest research has gone much faster then I expected... even with the frustration that I will fully admit I have as well when we hit walls like this
 +
* Raizh: What with our weekly contests now, though we haven't gotten a lot of input outside of Stillwater
 +
* Raizh: I think after we get alloys up and a lot to work for, may just put a huge ruby up for a prize - that oughta get some interest, heh
 +
Draim just puts it in and doesn't register for the contest ;)
 +
* Draim: lol true that
 +
* Raizh: Oh we don't mind that at all either ;)
 +
* animis: :)
 +
Draim says as he stands at his ruby mine and presses work
 +
* Raizh: Oh
 +
* Raizh: Yeah, the other thing I was going to ask about
 +
* Raizh: Given a conflict between two players that's turned into a rather hostile situation

Latest revision as of 01:16, 14 April 2010

This is as much of a log as I was able to get and will continue to add to throughout the round, there ARE pieces missing and while I have tried to eliminate repetition caused when I kept copying the window to try and get everything there may still be some of it. If you see any repetition feel free to remove it.

  • Babalu: So, I really think early and supervised is better
  • Raizh: There definitely is a culture around it
  • Babalu: If there is such a thing as supervised
  • Draim: aye Raizh but some of that culture is around things that they know they "shouldn't" do
  • Babalu: Yep, a culture indeed, and age limits only makes it more tractive, imo
  • Draim: as my parents talked about going to college and having basically a keg party during freshmen orientation. With the President and Dean of the college there with them.
  • Draim: with people who can watch
  • Raizh: I think had it not been at 21 the whole time, said culture probably would not have developed as it did
  • Raizh: Though now... I don't think dropping the age limits would really eliminate it, except after many years
  • Draim: well the culture developed quickly (it really isn't that long only 20 years or so) so I doubt it would change slowly
  • Draim: perhaps but I think it could help and then it would work on the culture
  • Draim: I don't think it would actually make it worse even in the short run to be honest
  • Draim: it may be similar in the short run, but not really worse
    • 2 days 12 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
  • Draim: oh how I hate that announcement
  • Raizh: I like that our DP debates so far have been about legal drinking age
  • Draim: lol
  • Babalu: he he
  • Babalu: yeah, very much game related, lol
  • Raizh: Shall we discuss immigration?
  • Raizh: Would you use your ban on illegal immigrants? :O
  • Babalu: rofl

  • Tiwais: ooo, that was an interesting debate :)
  • Babalu: lol
  • Babalu: Not related at all to DPs but interesting
  • Tiwais: yupyup
  • Tiwais: When will we get serious? lol ;)
  • Tiwais: About who of us we should choose and all?
  • Babalu: well, we are planing to hold a minidebate tomorrow at arround 5:30 pm ESt, that would be like 11:30 pm for you
  • Babalu: maybe later
  • Tiwais: evening, evening... sure, but I can't stay on too long then. I have classes, lol
  • Tiwais: Eeee.... later is scary.
  • Babalu: what time is it now for you?
  • Tiwais: 3pm
  • Babalu: thats 12 hours more
  • Babalu: so it would be early, very early in the morning for you
  • Tiwais: and I have to wake up early for classes. o__o
  • Babalu: well, Draim said he would try and link the talks to somepage in the wiki, so you could read it there
  • Babalu: but that doesnt allow for you to speak your piece
  • Tiwais: yah
  • Tiwais: :(
  • Babalu: yeah
  • Babalu: I wanted everybody to participate

  • Babalu: Yes I am, so are the rest but for Raihz
  • Babalu: The idea is to give each one time to state why they want to become DP's
  • Kirean: Ah right im GMT so I may miss the debate :/
  • Babalu: well, you miss the chance to talk on line, but aparently Draim can link what is going to be said to a wiki page, you can follow it there
  • Kirean: ah cool :)
  • Babalu: and if he is online when you say your piece he can perhaps do the same
  • Babalu: so we are trying to give everybody kind of equal oportunity to debate

  • animis: i am on, hello
  • Draim: hello! :)
    • 1 day 18 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
  • Babalu: I am too
  • Babalu: But mght have to go out for like 20 minutes anytime
  • Babalu: Kirean is not on line
  • Babalu: neither tiwais
  • Babalu: And for some reason I cant spell rahiz correctly
  • Draim: ouc that sucks
  • Draim: don't worry I understand :)
  • Draim: I'm happy to give my speech/listen to other/debate whenever though :)
  • Babalu: Well, would you like to start Draim?
  • Babalu: Or should I?
  • Babalu: Or ladies first?
  • Draim: sure I'm happy to start
  • Babalu: ok, go ahead
  • Draim: In general I see a DP as someone who can help make the game better for everyone else.
  • Draim: It is one of the things I like about the "arrest" deal in my law that we were talking about earlier. Basically a way to say "freeze! let's talk this out because I find that you usually can. I am also a fan of using temp bans when at all possible instead of permenant ones (still with the idea that a ban is a last resort)
  • Draim: at least for 1 type of issue:
  • Draim: I think there are 2 broad catagories of people that can be a problem.
  • Draim: 1 is the sterotypical "griefer" who is trying to upset people. These people exist but they are much rarer. I'll be honest when I say I put geodude under this category at first but after talking to him at length I'm not totally sure he belonged there (at least fully) he was still a problem but wasn't the complete griefer that I originally thought.
  • Draim: The 2nd type is the one that is much much more common and is generally a player who's upset and the key word there is "player" in the way that it is someone who actually wants to play this game, who wants to pass tests/lvl/do whatever. Those situations are usually the most difficult but they are also the ones that in the end can almost always be solved without a permenant ban (unless you screw up somehow along the way).
  • Draim: Why? Because they want to play, they can be reasoned with and worked with and usually in the end neither party is totally without fault.
  • Draim: I think a DP needs to be able to listen and mediate first and foremost.
  • Draim: I think those who have listened in since Orishas was elected have noticed that people do indeed call for a DP when they have concerns and disputes even when no one really thinks a ban would be even close to in order and while yes almost all the "dispute resolution" could be done without being DP I think the argument I hear often in first rounds about a DP not being important is a little bit BS. They end up with as close to a community mandate as you can get here and I think in general we all want people to help be that 3rd party.
  • Draim: Last election I had a worry about the "repeat banning" of characters who just end up spending money and wasting money
  • Draim: *spending money and wasting bans
  • Draim: hapilly Riva told us in the last round that Teppy has said he will ban (for good) any player banned twice by a dp (my guess is there is some "I agree with you" policy unsaid there) but I'm actually very happy about that
  • Draim: regarding who I am: I'm a 25 year old college senior, hopefully going into the legal field in the next month.
  • animis: what is wnf?
  • Draim: I guess that is probably enough for here right now... My other thing though (don't know if you want to talk about this now or later) is that I have a law that I wrote extending DP powers. I obviously think that is important and a good idea but would be interested in talking about it with others
  • animis: wmf*
  • Draim: Wikimedia Foundation
  • animis: i see
  • animis: yeah just found it on the net
  • Draim: it is the larger foundation that runs for example Wikipedia (in 100s of languages) as well as wiktionary, WIkimedia Commons (a free image site) and a couple other smaller but no less imporant in my mind projects :)
  • animis: yeah reading just that:)
  • Draim: :)
  • Raizh: Babalu, you here?
  • Babalu: sort of
  • Babalu: Animis, you are next
  • animis: just say a few words it was you who called for this debate
  • animis: ok then
  • animis: i see this more as a presentation than debate
  • animis: i am 41, female from sweden
  • Raizh: Hurrah stump speeches
  • animis: europe:-X
  • animis: i agree with everything draim said
  • animis: but
  • animis: i also tend to see this as both just a test and a responsability towards other players
  • animis: that means i am trying to fix problems even if I am not a DP
  • animis: and that if i would ever become a DP i wouldn't go around with a high hat bragging about it
  • animis: does that make sense?
  • animis: cause i'm writing this now, i don't have a ready speach
  • animis: people make a big thing about the bann, the only "power" a dp gets
  • animis: i would use that only when i've tried everything i can (talking etc)
  • animis: and nothign else works
  • animis: but i guess this is something almost all candidates say
  • animis: hmm let's see what else
  • animis: i care for other people, i have humor, i like to solve problems
  • animis: and i never forget this is a game
  • animis: well ask me if you want more:D
  • Babalu: Thats very good Animis
  • Babalu: One question
  • animis: sure
  • Babalu: On the first DP debate you kind of cheared for Geodude
  • Babalu: Why?
  • animis: cheared?
  • Babalu: Or rather on a debate on B' before it
  • animis: i believe it wasn't a debate
  • Babalu: you said you wanted to marry him, lol
  • animis: it was a spontanious chatt about him
  • animis: yes i would
  • animis: and also i think some people take some things way too serious sometimes
  • Babalu: Iliked what he said, it was smart
  • animis: but why not marry him? he wuld proly be a beats in bed
  • animis: hehehe
  • animis: yes not many people knew he was very smart
  • animis: well tbh i wondered if he wasn't teppy :D
  • animis: too bad he didn't want to marry me
  • Babalu: lol
  • animis: but then again i would proly hold him back from his actions:D
  • Raizh: I'm slightly surprised he didn't marry you so he could then walk around as you and do... things :P
  • Babalu: ok, fair enough
  • Raizh: He was certainly an enigma though
  • animis: i don't think he was interested in doing things as another
  • animis: 1. he wanted attention for himself
  • animis: 2. i have a feeling he really just wannted to fire up us
  • Babalu: Or rather on a debate on B' before it
  • animis: i believe it wasn't a debate
  • Babalu: you said you wanted to marry him, lol

  • animis: wanted*

Draim nods

  • animis: tbh
  • animis: i've met much worse players
  • Draim: he also to be honest rarely did anything "without a reason"
  • animis: i think it was in T2
  • Draim: I talked to him for a good 2 hours... was interesting
  • animis: yes indeed draim
  • animis: i had in T2 a player stalking me
  • animis: he would say he was a child
  • animis: i tried to protect him
  • animis: then when he was too much and i wanted 5 minutes for myself
  • animis: he would say things i don't even want to repeat
  • animis: I think he got banned
  • animis: so imo geo wasn't even near a bann:)
  • animis: he would come to SA and say: i am here to build 100 obi
  • animis: do you have anything to say?
  • animis: we all laughed and chatted with him
  • Raizh: Well, he stopped with the dig stealing after a bit
  • animis: i think he was a bit disapointed we didn't care
  • Raizh: That was probably the worst, as it was more exploiting a bad game system
  • animis: dunno, but i hope it was hi way of pointing the game need improvements:)
  • animis: his*
  • Raizh: But anyways... Babalu, you're next, right?
  • Raizh: Don't want to run out of time talking about Geodude
  • Babalu: ok
  • animis: yep
  • Raizh: And thanks, animis.
  • animis: yw
  • Babalu: Fist, I am multitasking so bare mith me
  • animis: I think he got banned
  • animis: so imo geo wasn't even near a bann:)

  • animis: yw
  • Babalu: Fist, I am multitasking so bare mith me
  • Babalu: I am a 46 year old man from Colombia
  • Babalu: Ex manager of a plastics manufacturing company
  • Babalu: currently unemployed
  • Babalu: Why do I want to become a Dp?
  • Babalu: Because Dp's are not really doing what they could
  • Babalu: DP's have a huge influence with people
  • Babalu: and they could really use that influence to better the game
  • Babalu: How?
  • Babalu: By appling preasure
  • Babalu: Preassure on the company and teppy to implement the laws that are voted
  • Babalu: And which laws? well better laws hopefully
  • Babalu: How do you get better laws
  • Babalu: By using DP influence and help organize a congress
  • Babalu: A parliement made up of representatives from each region, elected in informal elections
  • Babalu: Most probably the people that like to debate and propose change
  • Babalu: I have seen many GREAT ideas lost in informal debates on B' because the people who say them are overshadowed by more knoledgable or just noisy players
  • Babalu: so I think we need aplace where orderly discussion of ideas and issues that affect egypt could be done
  • Babalu: and the best laws from the best interested minds be written
  • Babalu: so, I think by beeing a DP I can help to acieve that
  • Babalu: *achieve
  • Babalu: As to the rest of the
  • Babalu: DP powers and mission, I can not add anything more to what has been said allready
  • Babalu: I trully believe
  • Babalu: that by using the good will DP's have something can be done to organize preassure and have those laws that we really want implemented
  • Babalu: It is shamefull that many weeks go by and nothing is done in that regard by the company
  • Raizh: How exactly do you propose to get Teppy to listen and/or do things more often?
  • Babalu: So, basically imo DPs have great power that is beeing wasted I want to change that pulling ghether all DP's to achieve real change
  • Babalu: Riots?
  • Babalu: Burn everything down?
  • Raizh: Heh
  • Babalu: I dont know yet, but comunal outcryes organized and supported by DPs good will could work
  • Raizh: I'm just saying, I think the main thing Teppy cares about are subscriptions
  • animis: idd

  • Babalu: DP's have a great influence with players and they should use that
  • Babalu: If treats is what he needs, organized treats he should get
  • Babalu: So, thats it, I am a real revolt griefer
  • Draim: in general they need to be more active I completly agree. The general idea of it at the moment is basically that it's "a title" (that doesn't even show up on your character) and people don't really do much
  • Raizh: Agreed
  • Babalu: That can be changed by other DP's with equal status
  • Babalu: get those DP's that dont use their powers of convidction to the fullest to start doing it
  • animis: tbh i think you can do that with "common" players too
  • Babalu: To inflict real change in the way things are done by the company
  • Babalu: Yeah, REVOLUTION
  • Draim: I like your congress idea, Usi in my last round had a great idea that I plan on trying to help him start regardless of how far I move on for a "consititution" type deal that sets up what is expected of rights and responsibilities of people and some understanding of what DPs are expected to do (while still leaving freedom for them to interpret which I think is important)
  • Babalu: I love that
    • 1 day 17 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
  • Babalu: Thats what I want a congress for
  • Babalu: to organize real laws, from the best interested minds
  • Babalu: Because our current legal system is terrible
  • Babalu: You have an idea, maybe good, meybe bad, perhaps you debate it a bit in B'
  • Babalu: Get some feedback, write the law, and start getting sigs

Draim nods

  • Draim: I think we need to get a system together that does 2 things
  • Babalu: And hope and pray to get enough to be able to go for a ballot, if notpreviously vetoed by the company
  • Babalu: Yes Draim, go ahead
  • Draim: 1. helps us get better "real laws" into the game system (/cough /cough my DP powers law) but also a new set of laws that we pass among egypt that isn't game related
  • Draim: since waiting to get 1 law voted in every month and then coded god knows when isn't helpful when they don't all need to actually be coded
  • Babalu: Right
  • Babalu: A real code of conduct

Draim nods

  • Raizh: Yeah, the major major roadblock is how infrequent ballots are and that a maximum of one law passes each time
  • Draim: if we don't want to we don't even need to use the ingame voting system, private chests held by DP guild where someone puts in one of the carved "name chits" to vote?
  • Babalu: Yeah, thats what I mean
  • animis: could do
  • Babalu: And DP's could rally people to those ballots
  • Raizh: Are we talking about mainly conduct laws or statements of intents or what?
  • Draim: could be either or
  • Babalu: Whatever congress sees fit
  • Raizh: I mean, sure, that sounds nice
  • Raizh: But that's not exactly enforceable or functional in implementation
  • Babalu: So, lets elect all of us as DP´s
  • Raizh: Will people care?
  • Draim: perhaps not but all you can do is try
  • Babalu: DP,s will enforce those laws
  • Babalu: not the games laws alone
  • Draim: I would bet you could get them into it at least at some level
  • Raizh: Can you give me an example of a law such as that you would like to pass?
  • Raizh: *that could be passed/made in that format, not through regular ballot
  • animis: good question
  • Babalu: A basic code of conduct
  • Babalu: IE: Stealing is wrong
  • Babalu: Open stealing with witnesses will be punished
  • Babalu: What punishment? congress will determin thet
  • Babalu: *that
  • Babalu: This is a society
  • Babalu: lets get it to act like one
  • Raizh: So, the establishment of a judicial system?
  • Babalu: Right, among other things
  • animis: i think i've heard all this before in T2
  • Babalu: perhaps courts too
  • Babalu: Lots of Drama for sure
  • Raizh: I'm gonna be honest
  • Draim: or something along the lines of "an egyptian will be expected to have respect for the land around a players compounds and if proven to be done in malice will face x"
  • Raizh: That seems very ambitious and very idealistic
  • Babalu: Perhaps
  • Babalu: but it could work
  • Raizh: Mainly... if you're going to set something up like that, it needs to be much more organized
  • Draim: aye it does :)
  • Babalu: If new tales and shards are to aim of maintainig the same players over long periods
  • Draim: just throwing out things that you "could do"
  • Raizh: As in, set specific expectations that the laws will be part of a legal system that will be enforced
  • Babalu: what better than a really organized society
  • Raizh: That a specific group will be set up under certain rules to make judgment
  • Raizh: And that specific punishments will be enacted - which at this point would be limited to bans of some extent, I suppose
  • Babalu: It is democracy and Judiciary System in RL, it might work here too
  • Raizh: I am *really* not a fan of super grand schemes without any thought in execution or basis in reality though

Draim coughs about his law again

  • animis: lol
  • Draim: Have you seen my arrest idea Raizh?
  • Raizh: I have, actually
  • Draim: what do you think?
  • Raizh: And I think it's a good extension of powers
  • Draim: Have you seen my arrest idea Raizh?
  • Raizh: I have, actually
  • Draim: what do you think?
  • Raizh: And I think it's a good extension of powers
  • Babalu: Well, Rahiz, that is at least what I am aiming for, to get people thinking about it
  • Raizh: At the moment, I'm not certain that A) we have enough wide behavioral problems to justify a dedicated legal system
  • Draim: I think things like that could be very helpful if we wanted to do something like this
  • Babalu: And I could do that better as a DP
  • Raizh: and B) that our punisments are limited - the arrest helps with that
  • Raizh: And Babalu, my major worry is that without firm achievable goals, nothing will happen
  • Babalu: Organized and legally justified public shame s a nice punishment
  • Raizh: All of this that you've said could be set up without DPs at all, except for the personal power of ban
  • Babalu: My first goal is a congress
  • Raizh: And Egypt is notoriously bad at organizing when it comes to issues like this
  • Babalu: to have this debates there in an orderlly manner
  • animis: exactly my point, you can do all this even if you're not a dp
  • Babalu: Yes, and I will
  • Babalu: But beeing a DP will help a lot
  • Draim: You are right of course that DPs only "have" the power to ban at the moment but they are also the only ones who get some measure of a community mandate (however small) and I think it is quite clear that people do look for them to do things. You're right that the vast majority of it you can do when you aren't a DP and I know I'll work on the thingts I like regardless of if I get it or not but I do think getting it can help me and be another block to stand on to help get things going even without
  • Draim: the use of the ban
  • Raizh: OK
  • Raizh: Now, if Babalu is elected, he will set up this congress, the intent of which is to better organize how we approach laws
  • Raizh: Am I correct, Babalu?
  • Babalu: Well, folks, RL calls
  • Draim: enjoy Babalu :)
  • Babalu: Yes, Raihz
  • Babalu: thats how I see it
  • Raizh: OK, thank you
  • Raizh: And have a nice day/night/evening :)
  • Raizh: OK: Draim
  • Babalu: I hope this minidebate halped us with our decision, and may the best person win
  • animis: take care rai
  • Raizh: What concrete thing will you do if elected to make Egypt better?
  • animis: afk
  • Babalu: Try to set up a congress made up of regionally elected representatives
  • Babalu: Thats the first goal
  • Raizh: I knew that was yours, was asking Draim about his :P
  • animis: staying 5 more minutes then
  • Babalu: Then, as DP enforce the laws written by that congress and aproved by the majority of Egyptian citicenz
  • Babalu: ok
  • Babalu: sorry
  • animis: :) np baba
  • Raizh: NP, and thanks for the answers
  • Babalu: see you later folks
  • animis: laters baba
  • Draim: if elected? I'll be honest I don't see anything that I'll do "if elected" that I won't do "if not elected" I would really like to help Usi with his constitution thing, I think I would be a trustworthy individual with the ban and the arrest if that happens. I like Babalu's Congress idea (which I see has related to Usi's Constitution) and would love to see that implemented. I agree with you in many ways, there isn't really anything I can do as
  • Draim: later baba
  • Draim: DP that I can't do as DP
  • Draim: I would be active, I can say that much, but I don't know if "more active" is the right term that sounds wrong. I would continue to be active and push for as many good things as I can listening to everyone involved and helping to push for good ideas regardless of where they come from
  • Raizh: OK

  • Raizh: OK
  • Raizh: And animis? Same question: What concrete thing if any would you do if elected?
  • animis: i have not one big plann or idea, i believe in meeting people, I am very social
  • animis: I would most certainly
  • animis: encourage people to be more active in making laws
  • animis: voting
  • animis: trying to change what they are not happy with
  • Raizh: What do you see as the biggest problem in Egypt now?
  • animis: and who knows, if there would be a revolution i would lead the way to the palace
  • animis: problems that are big for some people are not so big for others
  • Raizh: Then what's the biggest problem for the most or what's the biggest problem to you?
  • animis: guess biggest problem for most right now is this shard's pace
  • Raizh: In which direction? Heh
  • animis: and my biggest problem is that it taked too long time for laws to be voted and implemented
  • animis: well some people think it's going to fast
  • animis: and ah the level might be a problem for some people
  • animis: the fact that you can't start a test if you're not a specific level
  • Raizh: OK, and Draim? Biggest problem right now?
  • Raizh: Sorry, I'm just asking questions cause I'm picking grass :)
  • animis: hah np
  • Raizh: If you guys are terribly busy, I understand
  • Draim: is it legit to say the biggest problem is anger? lol they seem to be angry no matter what, I totally agrees the levels are screwy but sheesh we have people whining about it being to slow, to fast, to many tests, not enough tests, teppy not responding, teppy responding and making it to easy
  • animis: but rai what do you think is the biggest problem in egypt?
  • Draim: my personal feeling is that the biggest problem is apathy, many players have "given up" to a certain extent but you can see glimmers of hope when you do a little cheerleading
  • Raizh: I agree to some extent
  • Draim: but yes :) what animis said what is your though :)
  • Raizh: A lack of coordination and common community is my biggest dislike
  • Raizh: But then again, I'm very much concerned with research, which drives that complaint
  • Raizh: And every time I talk on B! about how if we all chip in for gem cutting it'd be so much easier
  • Raizh: Some wiseass like Knightmare has to talk about how he'd rather hoard them
  • Raizh: Granted, he's probably joking, and honestly, I don't mind the guy
  • Raizh: But it's rather depressing when trying to push for work together for a common goal
  • Draim: he is but yes I understand the frustration. I'm one of the people who kind of says "if they don't want to do research don't make them" because I want people to be able to do what they want because they will stay longer and have more fun but it is frustrating I agree
  • Raizh: Oh definitely
  • Raizh: And we're trying to encourage research other than just 'hey, you need to do boring work for us'
  • Draim: though I have to be honest research has gone much faster then I expected... even with the frustration that I will fully admit I have as well when we hit walls like this
  • Raizh: What with our weekly contests now, though we haven't gotten a lot of input outside of Stillwater
  • Raizh: I think after we get alloys up and a lot to work for, may just put a huge ruby up for a prize - that oughta get some interest, heh

Draim just puts it in and doesn't register for the contest ;)

  • Draim: lol true that
  • Raizh: Oh we don't mind that at all either ;)
  • animis: :)

Draim says as he stands at his ruby mine and presses work

  • Raizh: Oh
  • Raizh: Yeah, the other thing I was going to ask about
  • Raizh: Given a conflict between two players that's turned into a rather hostile situation
