Project: Necropolis is underway in the western Queen's Retreat desert at (-501, 5901)!

Project phase: PYRAMID BUILDING

Current status!

  • Pyramid (Fertile Land): 45/55 blocks loaded
  • Funerary Temple: unbuilt, all materials ready
  • Crystal Obelisks (2): unbuilt
  • Desert Obelisks (20): unbuilt
  • Decorative Torches (10): unbuilt
  • Mentor's Sacelum (1): unbuilt
  • Stela (1): unbuilt

MISSION STATEMENT

To construct a necropolis (funerary complex) in honor of myself, my ancestors, and descendents of the Hekatef family line for millenia to come. This complex will also be home to my Funerary Temple and a Venery.

Owing to the architectural acumen of my spouse, Tanafri, a blueprint of the site exists:

Overview of Project: Necropolis

The pyramid and the funerary temple, standing on opposite ends of the complex, will be the main buildings. (They will be connected via underground passageways filled with deadly traps, naturally.) The pyramid, not pictured, will stand on the east end of the complex, behind the guildhall.

I have chosen a 5-tiered pyramid (Fertile Land size) for my tomb. Pyramids being what they are, this is the first building that should be completed before any other structures can be sited.

Journal of Hekatef, Patron, Chief Laborer and Future Decedent

Year 3, Akhet I-17 (September 14, 2009 A.D.): With the generous aid of Atheus, the pyramid has just 10 more blocks to go. At this rate the tomb will be complete and consecrated in one more of our Egypt months. It gets easier after this, honest.

Pyramid construction site, or progressive-rock album cover? YOU NEED NOT ANSWER RIGHT AWAY.

Year 2, Shemu IV-28 (September 7, 2009 A.D.): All 55 blocks have been located and unearthed! And 29 of them are loaded into the site. All that remains now is to load the rest of 'em! How hard can that be?

Year 2, Shemu IV-10 (August 31, 2009 A.D.): The loading of great limestone blocks into the pyramid site continues. Soon the first tier will be laid. Through hot sun and freezing night, the labor of hauling the massive stones is a grueling one; yet the benevolence of the gods lends strength to my shoulders and inexhaustible energy to my legs. Okay, the Endurance meals cooked by the Nile River Guild chefs deserve credit, too.

Grandpa says that in his day, people spoke of mystical crawling contraptions, automata which clutched blocks in strong metal claws, moving about as if under their own will. They made pyramid-building into an easy task for our illuminated ancestors. He also says that "if your generation weren't such idiots, you'd've re-invented them by now, for Ptah's sake." Gramps says a lot of stuff.

Anyway, this project is exciting, and I can't wait to die and be entombed here in opulent luxury! Oh wait, no, I totally can.

Only 54 more to go!
