The Blacksmith Challenge

Are you a great blacksmith eager to demonstrate your skills? Or maybe just all thumbs and frightened by anvils? Either way I have a contest for you.

The blacksmith challenge will happen on Saturday, May 15th in Saqqarah (750, -1650) at high Noon EDT (4PM GMT)

If you are interested in attending, please let me know. If I don't get a few participants, I'll have to cancel the event.

Participation

In the blacksmith challenge, players will compete to make requested items in the allotted time. I'll supply the materials and tools. I'll have a variety of requests such as "Make the worst possible hatchet in 3 minutes" or "make the best possible spring in 10 minutes" or "make a resin wedge of exactly 6,125 quality in 30 seconds". The requests will be varied enough that even new blacksmiths should have a shot at winning. And I've got some tricks up my sleeve in what I'll request.

Scoring

Points will be awarded based on how close the players come to the requested item. If I request a quality 2,000 shovel in 5 minutes, then the player who comes closet to making a 2K shovel will win that round. Their exact score will be (10,000 - Abs(requested item - their score))

Scores will be accumulated over the rounds until the final score is reached.

Prizes

The top prizes are:

• A collapsed airship
• A portable cornerstone
• A full set of huge gems (1 huge quartz, 1 huge topaz, 1 huge ruby, 1 huge sapphire, 1 huge emerald, 2 huge diamonds)
• 50 pieces of Serpentine Marble

The player with the highest score will get to pick which of the four top prizes he or she wants. The player with the next highest score then can pick from the remaining three prizes, and so forth.

Participation prizes are

• 4 silk cloth
• 4 Pieces of basic marble (pick any mixture of OSM, YA, MG, WT, CG, NG, RA, CT)
• 200 basic alloys or metals (pick from mixture of gold, antimony, steel, brass, bronze)

Participation prizes will be given to anyone who enters the contest but doesn't win one of the 4 grand prizes. Each participant can pick one type of participation prize.

Spectators

There will also be multiple masterpiece meals to eat, herbs to smoke, and wine and beer to taste. So even if you don't plan on entering, come on down. Finally, a second airship will be given to the spectator who guesses the score closest to the item made in the final round of the contest.

Bring beer or wine or herbs if you have it. My own wine stocks are poor.
