DP Round 1

Some chat is missing, obviously. --

Tobel: I did mention to the others: I'm 26, obviously as mentioned served in the military, and haven't been able to finish a telling as of yet. I always wound up getting deployed to Iraq which didn't have internet access. So I have very little middle and no late game experience.
Tobel: Although personally I believe that the characteristics of a person are more important than experience.
Siv: Understandable. I am 38, Female, Ex-Navy, and I have completes 3 tellings and going for my 4th one now. And I own my own company with my husband.
Tobel: Ew, seabee.
Tobel: :)
Siv: :)
Tobel: Need anyone for web design for your company, by the way? ;)
Siv: I have been out for a while now. Im old
Tobel: 38 isn't old :p
Siv: I feel old. :( But im at least young at heart with a 21 year old Daughter to prove it!
Tobel: Is she joining up?
Tobel: Military, not ATITD :)
Siv: No. She is a Design Engineer that is currently saving money to go to M.I.T.
Siv: She is VERY independant.
Tobel: Impressive! I hope she does well there.
Siv: I hoe so too. I am so very proud of her.
Siv: hope*
Siv: Man I can't type tonight at all. I think it is the stress
Tobel: Understandable :( Deaths are never easy.
Siv: I wish they were a lot easier. I understand everyone dies and everyone will die eventually, But why is it so hard still?
2 days 16 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
Tobel: Sometimes it depends on how strong your faith is, and in what you believe in. A bit easier on the heart if you believe you'll be seeing them again in the afterlife.
Siv: Well I know that time heals all and I know I will heal, but at least I am occupying my time and grief by spending it with a great community and good friends here in Atitd. And it helps to have friends around when dealing with things like this.
Tobel: Definately. ATITD is pretty epic, in that regard.
Siv: Yes. And the people in my area are helping me out quite a bit. And I hope that I can help them out as much as they have helped me.
Siv: But for now, I must go to sleep. 7AM comes early for me and I need to be ready for the funeral home tomorrow.
Siv: It was very nice to meet you and I am sure that we will talk more later on. And thank you for the chat and you have a great evening!
Tobel: You too, take care.
2 days 15 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
Tobel: Anyone around?
2 days 14 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
2 days 13 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round.
Khu: I'm around, 1.27 hours later!
Tobel: ^_^
Tobel: Welcome back.
Tobel: Our gazelle tapping.
Tobel: Out*
Khu: Very nice
Khu: One day, gazelles will be mine
Tobel: Hehe
Tobel: Siv put her hat into the ring if you want to read our conversation above.
Khu: Indeed. Well, if it's about introductions, I'm a homegrown international man of mystery. (Whatever that's supposed to mean) Experience wise, was true blue for T1 and very active with the beta and development of this game.
Khu: Came back to experience the "T1" feeling and have committed myself to enjoying everything that Bastet has to serve.
Tobel: I take it you are running for Demi Pharaoh as well?
Khu: Absolutely ;)
Tobel: I'll ask some of the questions that Muriel asked earlier. She seems to be the only one who isn't a candidate. Why do you want to be DP?
Khu: For my complete unadulterated, unbiased perspective on this game and on life for the most part. I don't feel that "in-game" experience really matters in the end as a DP. I think that it will require a sound mind, a balanced weighing, and a senseful decision. :)
Khu: Common sense must prevail as common to succeed!
Tobel: Second question was: What did you vote for in the Geodude law?
Khu: Abstained. Did not have enough information nor evidence to choose a side.

Tofutti: I'm in this to pass the principle, pure and simple :)
Tofutti: I've played ATITD a few times before, and came to see of this "shard" -- ouch! what a name! -- will be different in any interesting way from the other ones.
Tofutti: Still don't enjoy the conflict built into some of the tests, but exploring the rest :)

Tobel: Hey there :)
Tofutti: Just a comment on the obi jumping.
Tofutti: The theory is that the obi test was designed as legalized griefing :D
Muriel: hello Tofutti
Tofutti: A place where the griefers could run amok, more or less. A kind of escape valve ;)
Tofutti: Every tale there are discussions about a way to prevent obi jumping, and if it should be prevented, etc.
Tofutti: But it's just one of the places where the conflict is built into the gaem.
Muriel: yup teppys idea to see how egypt deals with this kind of behaviour
Tobel: I don't think Obelisk jumping can be controlled, nor should you control another players desires. But it seems like there will be enough anger over this to make a law to attempt to change the law for Obelisk... At least to prevent what happened yesterday.
Tofutti: In the interest of full disclosere, my obelisk was one of the ones Geodude took down :D
Muriel: took down?
Tofutti: Over built.
Muriel: yeah
Tobel: I think the system needs to be modified so that the current region height gets set at the tallest current Obelisk.
Tofutti: Other times, it's about an even split between the people who like to cooperate, and the players who enjoy conflict for its own sake.
Tobel: The idea that they used 1 Obelisk, tore it down (getting all materials back) and just walking into another region and doing the same thing 3 more times seems too much of an exploit.
Tofutti: But that's the design of the test.
Tofutti: ATITD is in a way Teppy's private social experiment.
Tofutti: He likes to stick pins in us and see how we jump :D
Tofutti: Like the plague in T3 I think it was.
Tobel: Anyone watch Star Trek? Reminds me of an episode where these invisible aliens were screwing with the crew (poking them with pins and devcices) :p REminds me of that.
Muriel: hehe and most of the time egypts society is very very predictable
Tofutti: Well, the game has been played through often enough, so experienced players know.
Muriel: its the same with DP really it brings out the worst cases of politicianess in the players
Tofutti: That's why the players who are going for architecture are sure to get their obi's up right away, The queues usually hold for a little while.
Muriel: vague answers, humming and hahing..avoiding difficult subjects....grin
Tobel: :D
Tobel: A lot of folks don't want to take a side it seems.
Tofutti: I like playing ATITD, but I do it knowing what for me is the downside.
Tofutti: Getting involved in an obi war is kind of like getting involved in a land war in Asia. Don't do it unless you're just in it for the joy of the fight.
Tofutti: Usually just lots of drama on both sides until everyone's bored with it :D
Tobel: Haha thats exactly how it seemed to pan out at the start.
Tobel: You heard alot of raging on regional and then eventually it just became a forgotten issue.
Tofutti: I think Geodude will be disappointed that it subsided so quickly. His type of player usually feeds on drama.
Muriel: thats the only way to deal with him, ignore him, shunning is an old ritual in some civilisations that would be ideal for him
Muriel: but people like to feed the trolls this is like some forums....
Tofutti: It's essentially bullying behavior. In RL there are ways to deal with some kinds of bullying, but in game, the options aren't there.
Muriel: what you talking about physical restraint? hitting?
Tobel: Stoning :p
Tofutti: Nope. Didn't have anything particular in mind, really.
Muriel: just shows that most folks can't solve problems without resulting to physical violence
Tofutti: But the laws in RL are somewhat different than in the desert :D
Muriel: ahh but we make our laws
Tofutti: That's all I meant.
Muriel: so it can be the same
Tofutti: Teppy has veto power over any laws we make.
Tofutti: That's why the Obi test is never changed.
Tofutti: I'm told that way back in Tale I there was a U of Conflict. Teppy likes that stuff.
Tofutti: Or so it appears. Never met the man :)
Tofutti: Must go finish my iron shovel for the Big Dig. I can sure use those stones. I'll keep an eye on the conversation. As I said, I'm not a contestant here :)

Round 2

Orishas: lol Set: gotchya Orishas: probably should have used a different word Set: Im subliminally planted in your mind muahahahah Set: On that note, glad to be here, look forward to some great discussion but for now I must go forage for food IRL, be back later :) AdrianConrad: Greetings candidates :) Orishas: Greetings Orishas: I guess I'll start things by asking a simple question: Why do you think you should move on? AdrianConrad: While I have my own opinions on a lot of the difficult topics that come up these days, I can take a neutral point of view when necessary to see the game from multiple points of view. AdrianConrad: A lot of people don't like other people's playstyles that don't line up with their own, and get upset when things don't go their way. AdrianConrad: I can't say that I always like everything that happens in this game, but I can put myself in an indifferent position and accept that not everyone has the same goals or agendas as I do. AdrianConrad: I think it's important for a DP to be able to put their personal feelings aside to consider the involved parties at hand, as well as the inhabitants of Egypt as a whole. AdrianConrad: Wouldn't you agree? Orishas: Actually, yes - I think a DP should not huge ties to one faction or another and be able to see from the perspective of a casual player, a serious player, a beginning player and a veteran AdrianConrad: Yes, there are many players of all types in this game, and we need to make sure all are considered in our judgements. Orishas: For example, a founder or officer of a build regional guild would have a lot of support for DP Orishas: but it may be a conflict of interest Orishas: *big Orishas: Well I think I can keep that impartiality as well. I'm in a very small guild (13 rock) as my home and I've joined the stillwater regional guild as a communication tool. Apart from that I dont have ties and would be happy to step in for a wide variety of situations. AdrianConrad: Orishas is a team player as well; when we were both headed out to build towers his first ideas was for us to organize and work together, instead of blindly competing. He even continued helping me out after he passed. That's the kind of help I expect from guildmates, but not usually random guys on the road :) 2 days 23 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 22 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 21 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 20 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 19 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 18 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 17 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 16 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 15 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. 2 days 14 hours left in this Demi-Pharaoh round. Orishas: Morning Tobel; why do you think you should be the one to move on? Tobel: Be with you in a moment Tobel: I don't have the experience of ATITD that a lot of other candidates will have, I'll say that up front. However, I do have a great deal of maturity and intelligence that I believe can benefit the people of Egypt through mediation and being the voice of the people. I'm 26, spent a few years as active duty military, so I have some well-honed ideas about what leadership should be. Tobel: What about yourself? Orishas: Like yourself - I don't have a huge amount of experience in ATITD. I played in a bit in tale 1 and 2, so I understand the game but I don't have the background and past ties of the most recent tales. In a way I think this is advantage it is a fresh tale with fresh faces. I believe I can be impartial in disputes, I don't have any big guild ties. I also feel I have a great deal of maturity and intelligence; I've dealt with getting people to work together and resolve disputes as a large part of m Orishas: my job as a Manager a hotel. I've been a casual gamer, a serious gamer, a hardcore gamer, an uninformed player - I believe I see from the perspective any most playstyles. Orishas: I also am very active right now in this game, and would continue to be; I think its important the DP candidate keep this in mind and dedicate some of thier time to their new role. Tobel: Aye. I' had a discussion last round with someone who was unhappy that they felt DP was a popularity contest. In a way it is. I believe that you -have- to get your name out there, at least in the DP chat. Not just yammering away, but if you aren't online enough to inform everyone of your ideas, I don't believe they will be able to cast a favourable vote. Tobel: I have to wrap up here in a few minutes, work is calling. I don't suppose your hotel is in Knoxvile, TN and you need new part time help, eh? :) Orishas: lol Orishas: california Im afraid Tobel: Doubt I could do much then... perhaps some remote technical support. Orishas: revenue manager! Deal with all our online channels Orishas: anyway, dont want to spam the chat ;) We'll continue later Tobel: I could handle it :D Talk to you later. Tobel: I'm going to try to copy this to a wiki paage like I did last round. Tedious but helpful for those that miss chat. I'll post the link later.
