*I left 1 named male and 4 named females in a terrarium overnight. In the morning, I had 24 offspring beetles, but one of my named females was gone. The other three named females and the named male were still there. I still had over 800 cabbage. I was reading some of the T2 stuff, looks like they can start to die of overcrowding at 15. I've been ok leaving 1 male and 1 female overnight, but probably shouldn't leave your favorite beetle in the terrarium unattended. - Tazendra

*After setting up my terrarium for the first time I put in 1 male, 1 female, and 500 cabbage. After leaving them a few hours, still no offspring so I decided to leave them overnight. Came back today, 14 hours after first leaving them and STILL no offspring. Someone suggested I put thousands of cabbage in so I clicked take to put them back in my locker. Suddenly 15 beetles showed up. I had clicked on the terrarium at least 10 times before that and switched between inventory and terrarium to try to refresh it, no go. Only when I hit take did the others show up. So watch out for this.... - rubenette

*Arbitrarily clicking on the window to refresh population doesn't seem to work; as per Belisar, the scroll arrows are what you need to click

Breed Beetles for the Test of Khefre's Children. (To store beetles without breeding them, use a Khefre's Locker instead.)

You must have at least a male and a female in the terrarium for them to breed.

Cabbage consumption

Beetles eat cabbage while they are in the terrarium. Expect to run through at least 200 cabbage per real life day breeding beetles. Upgrading with a thermometer will cut the amount of cabbage consumed by 1/3 (beetles will only eat 2/3 as much). If you run out of cabbage, the beetles will stop breeding and some will disappear.

Beetle browsing

You can use the arrows at the bottom of the window to browse the currently loaded beetles. You can also browse through the beetles in your inventory by clicking on the center button labeled "inventory". This is a toggle.

Breeding

You need at least one male and one female to begin breeding. The beetle population will not update on its own, you must do something to "refresh" the terrarium beyond just clicking on it, such as clicking the left and right arrows to browse through the beetles in the terrarium.

Over crowding

Beetles will start disappearing if there are too many of them in the terrarium. It has been suggested that this cutoff begins at about 15 beetles, though the actual population can climb into at least the high 20s. The beetles which disappear can be named ones you've placed in the terrarium, so be especially careful leaving your favorite beetle unattended.
