User talk:Zerda/Pollution Control Act

From A Tale in the Desert

I'm carrying a petition that forbids construction of mines within 75 coords of water, and after the law has been in effect for 72 hours, permits anyone to tear down mines within the forbidden zone. To diminish abuse, you don't get any salvage or stored contents from tearing down a mine if you don't already have normal salvage rights. --Dachannien 20:18, 26 December 2008 (EST)

A problem (from my perspective) with that bill is it flat-out blocks mining in a large chunk of Egypt. On top of that, everyone who built a mine near uninhabited water will lose it entirely (or lose 60% of the cost with salvage 2) shortly after passage. That law would have a stronger positive effect on pollution control (virtually eliminating it in most camps instead of cutting it to half of the time as this one would), but would have a strongly negative effect on mining and industry. Both have pluses and minuses, but I feel one that puts limits on the most egregious cases without permanently taking things away from anyone is the safest first step --Zerda 20:27, 26 December 2008 (EST)
