Update: As the mud/sand isn't ''too'' far away, I'm thinking maybe a public chest for mud/sand, and an array of racks. BYO straw or silt (and wood, when making firebricks). Swap meet chest seems to be a modest success, and I figure most people would be pretty good about restocking mud/sand when needed, so it could work out quite well.

Who

SACFAR is the Shabbat Ab Council for Facilities and Research, located in scenic Shabbat Ab (the region our grandparents knew as Seven Lakes).

Why

  • To build and maintain public facilities.
  • To get a few representatives each from different guilds which are involved in research and public works, for better cooperation and coordination.

People seeking a guild where they can work together on research projects may wish to visit one of these other guilds (The Wanderers being one of them. Probably the main one, at the moment, as Wanderers are doing donation-matching on some research materials, and large contributions to research in general).

Workshops

Note: When new facilities are provided, there is often a queue to use them. Please only use them as long as you really need (and come back later), and it's a good idea to check on regional if stuff is in use.

Basic Mats (1375,1740)

Our first workshop is at 1375,1740 (next to the road between CS and SArt). Cornerstone kindly loaned by Karriellyn.

  • 8 true kilns
  • 4 rock saw (more later, room for another 4 before we expand the CP)
  • 1 mason's bench (more, but quite later, room for another 4 before we expand the CP)
  • 1 Hand Loom (these do not break twine. But remember to take your thread/twine home, or someone else will use it)
  • 24 pottery wheels
  • 36 improved brick racks (note: these make 12 bricks at a time, not 6 like the flimsies)
  • 1 mud/sand chest (so refill it if it's low, and BYO straw/silt&wood for bricks, the rest is all here)
  • 1 kitchen
  • 2 charcoal hearth
  • 10 carp shops (no blades for a while yet, but you can make slate shovels and other tools) - One (next to chests) upgraded with bench vise, for making loom frames/etc.
  • 2 stash chests (donations are quite welcome)
  • 1 swap-meet box (leave stuff for other players to take. A few flint, twine, jugs, stuff like that)

Planning to add some charcoal ovens at some stage (maybe more hearths if needed).

Metals (1385,1760)

Second workshop is nextdoor, at 1385,1760.
Note: As bullet furnaces seem to only be of use for bootstrapping, and compression is better all-round, changes are being made. Numbers for those changing are in the form current->planned. When you visit, the numbers could be anywhere within that range.

  • 10->3 bullet furnaces
  • 8 student's forges, all with nail moulds. This includes:
    • 1 with an extrusion plate (for making wire): south end, next to master's forges
    • 1 with an extrusion plate and pinch rollers (to make sheet metal): SE corner, on outside wall next, to master's forges
  • 2 master's forges (all with nail moulds, no other upgrades yet)
  • 1 storage chest
  • 3->4 compression furnace

Planned expansion (not yet built. What is built depends upon whether the metal buildings are the same as in T3):

  • 3 student's casting boxen
  • 1 master's casting boxen
  • 2 anvils

More compression furnaces and probably blast furnaces will come in time as well

Warehouse for Research Donations (1385,1745)

There is 1 small warehouse (quite likely we'll expand as needed) at 1385,1745 (between the two workshops, next to the road), where you can stash donations towards university research

Non-SACFAR Facilities

While these facilities are not operated by SACFAR, it's hoped that providing a singular list will make it easier for people to find what they need (if you are not the owner of facilities which you find to be public, please consider if the owner wishes them to be listed before adding them. Public racks for papy are welcome to be listed. Some flax processing buildings far from town, where the few owners don't yet have a guildhall, shouldn't be listed).
Please update if you find the facilities have changed (e.g. new stuff built, stuff gone private, etc).

Drying Racks, 24 of (1258,1565)

Reasonably central in the region, but not as high as other places (hence good if you don't need every last seed)

Drying Racks, 9 of (1279,2216)

Up in the mountains west of UThought. A bit of a run from most places, but higher up.

Glassmaking CP (828,1505)

The Wanderers are working on a CP near limestone (and sand), so SACFAR is contributing towards public glazier's benches at that location (It is a bit of a run, but most of what you need is all there).

  • 3 Firepits
  • 1 public-use chest
  • 4 public glazier's benches

Things are subject to change, but current plans are to build more benches (some will be private to Wanderers, some public), perhaps 8 public, as well as CC hearths (maybe ovens as well in the future), kettles when available (for potash), a glory hole, and perhaps some drying racks near the pond (to dry flax for ash).
Plans are still being considered, but it should be a good enough workshop that it's worth the trek out to go through most of the steps of making your glass products

Current Projects

Public Works

Expansion of public facilities.
See above for current thoughts on what will be built, and what has been built.
Please send comments/queries/etc (or use the discussion page (one of the tabs at the top of every page)).
All donations are, naturally, quite welcome (especially of cornerstones; if you wish to contribute one (and it's perfectly fine if you want to donate one temporarily, until you need it yourself), please note it on this page or let someone know who can update it - you deserve the credit!).

Shabbat Ab Research

Note: The listed techs are a suggestion only, based on the idea of getting copper wire for hand looms (blacksmithing), improved brick racks, carpentry blades and other hand tools.
Please get in contact if you have any suggestions/queries.
We are, of course, interested in getting all techs unlocked (so if you have a fishing pole and it's nighttime, see if you can get some fish to donate, even if that tech isn't a priority).

Metals chain

After metallurgy, we can work on blacksmithing. SACFAR will provide all water in jugs, and as many firebricks as possible (it takes 8k, so donations of firebricks or silt are greatly appreciated). We will also require 1k each of Iron and Copper.

Future directions

Once we get a few more tech upgrades (in particular, imp brick racks, carp blades, and hand looms), a few other options become more viable (these are/will be done in other regions first, but it's good to have stuff open locally as well, for two reason. a) easy to get b) can work on techs later in the chain). These tech upgrades may come from SA, or be imported.

  • Obelisk Construction - boards, bricks, dried flax, and linen
  • Chariot Repair - boards, bricks, and linen (SACFAR should have enough cut stone by the time we have the other techs ready)

Freelance Projects

Got an idea for something you'd like to try out, that would benefit the region/Egypt, but need some sponsorship/information/assistance? Get in contact, and maybe we can help you out!

Digging

Shabbat Ab digs (we've had a few already, we were the first with stonecutting open, we had enough stones for both stonecutting and stonemasonry on the first day of play) are often on the Nile bank, west of UArch. There's a large stone at 1420,2035 that makes a good meeting place/landmark.

CP Expansion

Completed (but kept for reference on costs) our CP expansion. Townhouse going from size 2x3 to 5x5 (preserving one of the existing corners and half of the walls). Cost:
