Guilds/SACFAR

From A Tale in the Desert
Jump to navigationJump to search

Who

SACFAR is the Shabbat Ab Council for Facilities and Research, located in scenic Shabbat Ab (the region our grandparents knew as Seven Lakes).

Why

  • To build and maintain public facilities.
  • To get a few representatives each from different guilds which are involved in research and public works, for better cooperation and coordination.

People seeking a guild where they can work together on research projects may wish to visit one of these other guilds (The Wanderers being one of them).

Workshops

Basic Mats (1375,1740)

Our first workshop is at 1375,1740 (next to the road between CS and SArt). Cornerstone kindly loaned by Karriellyn.

  • 8 true kilns
  • 2 rock saw (more later)
  • 1 mason's bench (more, but quite later)
  • 24 pottery wheels
  • 1 kitchen
  • 1 charcoal hearth
  • 10 carp shops (no blades for a while yet, but you can make slate shovels and other tools)
  • 3 stash/storage chests (donations are quite welcome)
  • 1 swap-meet box (leave stuff for other players to take. A few flint, twine, jugs, stuff like that)

Planning to add another hearth and some charcoal ovens at some stage. may add improved brick racks (although there's a bit of a walk to get sand/mud), hand looms, etc., depending on concensus (/chat tlanthil your opinions/suggestions!)

Metals (1385,1760)

Second workshop is nextdoor, at 1385,1760.

  • 16 bullet furnaces
  • 1 storage chest

Planned expansion (not yet built. What is built depends upon whether the metal buildings are the same as in T3):

  • 8 student's forge
  • 2 master's forge
  • 3 student's casting box
  • 1 master's casting box
  • 1 compression furnace
  • 2 anvil

Based on results from bullet furnace, expect to have several of both other furnace types (however, I'm guessing that bullet is the 'fast' one, and it's probably not worth having a furnace that takes hours publically usable)

Warehouse for Research Donations (1385,1745)

There is 1 small warehouse (quite likely we'll expand as needed) at 1385,1745 (between the two workshops, next to the road), where you can stash donations towards university research

Glassmaking (?,?)

The Wanderers are working on a CP near limestone (and sand), SACFAR is contributing towards public glazier's benches and firepits at that location (details to be updated as they come in. It is a bit of a run, but most of what you need is all there)

Current Projects

Shabbat Ab Research

Note: The listed techs are a suggestion only, based on the idea of getting copper wire for hand looms (blacksmithing), improved brick racks, carpentry blades and other hand tools. Please get in contact if you have any suggestions/queries.

As of this writing, Mining is on timer, so Metallurgy is next.
SACFAR will provide all crucibles.
5k of each Copper and Iron ores are required. Wanderers will match all donations, so 2.5k of each are required from the public (more than half of the required iron has already been donated). You can donate to SACFAR now, and it will be delivered once mining is off timer (if we get everything ready, we could get metallurgy on timer a half hour after mining is finished).

After metallurgy, we can work on blacksmithing. SACFAR will provide all water in jugs, and as many firebricks as possible (it takes 8k, so donations of firebricks or silt are greatly appreciated). We will also require 1k each of Iron and Copper (not ore). This may be better to wait until we have improved furnaces (which means blacksmithing needs to be imported first, 2nd furnace type needs iron bars)

Digging

Shabbat Ab digs (we've had a few already, we were the first with stonecutting open, we had enough stones for both stonecutting and stonemasonry on the first day of play) are often on the Nile bank, west of UArch. There's a large stone at 1420,2035 that makes a good meeting place/landmark.
