Guilds/SACFAR

Jump to navigationJump to search

Who

SACFAR is the Shabbat Ab Council for Facilities and Research, located in scenic Shabbat Ab (the region our grandparents knew as Seven Lakes).

Why

  • To build and maintain public facilities.
  • To get a few representatives each from different guilds which are involved in research and public works, for better cooperation and coordination.

People seeking a guild where they can work together on research projects may wish to visit one of these other guilds (The Wanderers being one of them. Probably the main one, at the moment, as Wanderers are doing donation-matching on some research materials, and large contributions to research in general).

SACFAR Facilities

Notes:

  • When new facilities are provided, there is often a queue to use them. Please only use them as long as you need to (and come back later for any extras you don't need yet). It's also a good idea to check on regional if stuff is in use.
  • You can check the Ownership menu of a building to see who was the last person to use it. But if there's stuff left behind, and no-one about, you could also just stash it in a SACFAR chest.
  • Everything except some chests should be publically usable. Any box/chest/warehouse that you can stash in should be publically viewable. If you find something that isn't, please mention it so it can be fixed (it's easy to forget when building new things).
  • If there's something you'd like provided that we don't yet have (or we do have, but you think we should have more), and it's possible to build (based on current tech level and all), please get in touch.
  • Some buildings/tools will not be public (this means items like blacksmithing tools, metal treatment tanks once tongs are available, etc. You can either bring your own (in the case of tools) or see if a member is available)

General Workshop (1375,1740)

Our first workshop is at 1375,1740 (next to the road between CS and SArt). Cornerstone kindly loaned by Karriellyn.

  • 8 true kilns
  • 8 rock saw
  • 5 mason's benches
  • 1 Hand Loom (these do not break twine. But remember to take your thread/twine home, or someone else will use it)
  • 30 pottery wheels
  • 36 improved brick racks (note: these make 12 bricks at a time, not 6 like the flimsies. That's 432 bricks, or 144 straw, each cycle. Remember that if you use the sand/mud on site, your 144 db of straw becomes 432 db of bricks)
  • 1 mud/sand chest (so please refill it if it's low, and BYO straw/silt&wood for bricks, the rest is all here)
  • 2 charcoal hearth
  • 20 carp shops, (with carp blades until they're worn out, some spares are on hand, but you can BYO. If you have some spare metal to be made into blades, please donate) - One (next to chests) upgraded with bench vise, for making loom frames/etc.
  • 2 donation stash chests (one for general use, and the other specifically for donation to universities)
  • 1 swap-meet box (leave stuff for other players to take. A few flint, twine, jugs, stuff like that)

Planning to add some charcoal ovens at some stage (maybe more hearths if needed).

Metals Workshop (1385,1760)

Second workshop is a little up the road (closer to the CS), at 1385,1760. Cornerstone kindly loaned by Saffrian.

  • 3 bullet furnaces (please don't use these unless you really have to, the compression furnaces are much better)
  • 8 student's forges, all with nail moulds. This includes:
    • 1 with an extrusion plate (for making wire): south end, next to master's forges
    • 1 with an extrusion plate and pinch rollers (to make sheet metal): SE corner, on outside wall next, to master's forges
  • 2 master's forges (all with nail moulds, no other upgrades yet)
  • 1 storage chest
  • 4 compression furnaces
  • 3 student's casting boxen
  • 1 master's casting boxen
  • 2 anvils - note that SACFAR has tools, but they won't be left in a public chest. You can either bring your own, or see if a SACFAR member is available to get them out for you.

One blast furnaces are evaluated, we may have more compression furnaces, add blast furnaces, or replace compression with blast furnaces. And likely add a reactory or two soon.

U-Cook (1400,1750)

  • 2 Grain Ovens
  • 7 Kitchens (3 with cookpots so far, the rest will be upgraded as more pots are made) - not emptyable by public. Expressions of interest for cooking for public are welcome
  • 7 Kettles

Planned additions:

  • More kitchens if needed
  • More kettles. Initial target is 12
  • Several banquet tables (if applicable)
  • Several ceremonial tasting tables (if applicable)
  • Several malting trays (if applicable, once paper is open)

SACFAR Laboratories (1360,1740)

Cornerstone kindly loaned by ThePhoenix.
A chem lab and pigment lab are coming once mats are ready. Further expansion will probably be predictable for those familiar with the sciences in Egypt.

  • 12 Flax Hammocks just outside

Warehouse for Research Donations (1385,1745)

There is 1 small warehouse (quite likely we'll expand as needed) at 1385,1745 (between the two workshops, next to the road), where you can stash donations towards university research

Shrine of Conflict (1382,1743)

These are used to participate in events in Wepwawet Spirit Arena. While such an event is taking place, you can use the shrine to send your spirit to the arena to compete, often for great prizes!

Public Sheep Pen (1385,1749)

For all your sheep stabbing needs!

Stone Phoenix: Endurance (1359,1728)

Polish the wings at dawn (0600-0700 Egypt time) for +3 Endurance for 3 hours.

Information Booth (1405,1792)

A large blue "i" sculpture to represent the info booth (unfortunately, it can't be really close to the CS, and thread isn't large. Once we have raeli tiles, it'll likely be upgraded). Slightly to the west of the CS.
Please add sign posts pointing to any places of interest (with appropriate labels/info, of course).

Planned Facilities

  • Essence of Harmony - a current project, will be built once enough palm fronds are collected. If you have some spare, please donate them, so we can get Shabbat Ab its own essence. Currently we're about half finished on fronds, and everything else is collected

Non-SACFAR Facilities

While these facilities are not operated by SACFAR, it's hoped that providing a singular list will make it easier for people to find what they need (if you are not the owner of facilities which you find to be public, please consider if the owner wishes them to be listed before adding them. Public racks for papy are welcome to be listed. Some flax processing buildings far from town, where the few owners don't yet have a guildhall, shouldn't be listed).
Please update if you find the facilities have changed (e.g. new stuff built, stuff gone private, etc).

Drying Racks, 24 of (1258,1565)

Reasonably central in the region, but not as high as other places (hence good if you don't need every last seed). Near the East end of the hill range SW of SArt.

Drying Racks, 9 of (1279,2216)

Up in the mountains west of UThought. A bit of a run from most places, but higher up (hence more seeds).

Glassmaking CP (828,1505)

The Wanderers are working on a CP near limestone (and sand), so SACFAR is contributing towards public glazier's benches at that location (It is a bit of a run, but most of what you need is all there).

  • 3 Firepits
  • 1 public-use chest
  • 4 public glazier's benches

Things are subject to change, but current plans are to build more benches (some will be private to Wanderers, some public), perhaps 8 public, as well as CC hearths (maybe ovens as well in the future), kettles when available (for potash), a glory hole, and perhaps some drying racks near the pond (to dry flax for ash).
Plans are still being considered, but it should be a good enough workshop that it's worth the trek out to go through most of the steps of making your glass products

Other notes

Digging

Shabbat Ab digs (we've had a few already, we were the first with stonecutting open, we had enough stones for both stonecutting and stonemasonry on the first day of play) are often on the Nile bank, west of UArch. There's a large stone at 1420,2035 that makes a good meeting place/landmark.

Expansion and donations

Please send comments/queries/etc (or use the discussion page (one of the tabs at the top of every page)).
All donations are, naturally, quite welcome (especially of cornerstones; if you wish to contribute one (and it's perfectly fine if you want to donate one temporarily, until you need it yourself), please note it on this page or let someone know who can update it - you deserve the credit!).
If you're interested in joining, please sent a /chat (don't just apply without telling anyone; unless you're well known, we'll probably assume it's just another guild-collector)

Freelance Projects

Got an idea for something you'd like to try out, that would benefit the region/Egypt, but need some sponsorship/information/assistance? Get in contact, and maybe we can help you out!
