The test idea is a nice one, and unique.

A concern is if people mark out their gift preferences on their /info tab or wiki, doesn't it make it more trivial for the gift giver to max points?

  • That is actually what is intended. As a Harmony Test, you should definitely check other players info and the wiki and gather the best information you can about people's likes/dislikes and then plan your gifts accordingly. In fact, if you simply randomly give gifts you will likely get nowhere (it is easy to lose points) Of course, everyone else will be doing this and only one person passes per week, so it should still be a challenge.

What if the givers only got the points after they received a gift in return from the person they gifted, and split the total points between them? Maybe a 24 hour delay between a gifting and receiving between a pair of players?

I was thinking about changing one aspect, which was instead of only being able to give to a specific player once per 24 hours, that a player can only receive one gift per 24 hours (after all, they are eating it so if 12 people came up to you and gave you a meal you probably couldn't eat them all)

One twist built in to the test is that you get more points if you "return the favor" (you give a gift to someone who has previously gifted you). But then, the question becomes between 2 players: who gets to give first? This is something they will have to agree on to proceed.

  • Also to limit gaming of the system, no exchanges of gifts between married spouses.
Interesting, let me think about this. Ideally, you wouldn't just be giving gifts to mules, and people do often marry their mule. This could be a solution, but at the same time, doesn't it seem odd that you can't give gifts to your husband/wife :)
  • No exchange of gifts with an unpaid citizen.
Definitely; you should only be able to give to paid players, not trials, etc. I'll make that clear on the test description
