Fishing Methods for specific fish

Perch-catching plan (for Larame)

Note: Always used Preserved (Kanixihk/I can make) or Hardened (Ariella/Pascalito can make) lures...using this plan, you could easily lose hundreds of low-level lures!

Note: You can stand in one spot the entire time, if you want.

Preferred Lures for catching Perch

  • Woolly Aphid (catches many fish types, but very common)
  • Golden Asp (catches even more fish types, but even more common)
  • Slime Moth (catches only a few fish types, semi-common)

Note: Hairy Slug can catch 5 deben Perch...but it catches many other fish types and is quite rare; not an attractive option.

Resetting Lures for resetting Perch's timer

  • Corkscrew Asp (catches Carp and Phagrus)
  • Pickel Slug (only seems to catch Catfish + seasonal fish)
  • Woodmoth (catches Abdju, Catfish, Phagrus)

The Method:

You can use just two lure types if you like-- one Preferred, one Resetting.  You will get fewer other fish, but it will not affect your perch yield, and may be both easier and faster.

  1. At the beginning of a fishing session, fish with your choice of preferred lure until you catch a perch.  It should be max size for that lure (4 debens).
  2. Immediately after catching the perch, switch to a resetting lure.  You may use any resetting lure, or switch among them.  Using only one will reset perch quicker (easier to get "no fish bit" than to catch fish), but varying the lure used may catch a few other fish types as a "side bonus".
  3. Count valid fish messages you receive in main while using the resetting lure.  You are looking for messages containing these phrases (Note: Messages containing "You didn't catch anything. . . ." are meaningless; don't bother counting those.):
    • "No fish bit."
    • "You almost caught a/n odd/strange/unusual fish, but. . . ."
    • "You caught a _____ deben ____." (May occur as, "though you lost your lure, you did catch a ____ db ____")
  4. After reaching a count of ten valid fish messages for your resetting lure, switch back to a preferred lure for perch, and fish with it until you catch a perch.  It should again be max size.
  5. Remember to filet fish ASAP if you want to use the fish for research or cooking.  If you want to rot fish for fertiliser, stash the (whole) fish somewhere and wait about 2 (realtime) hours before fileting.  (Or just leave it there and anyone can filet it after it has been there long enough to rot).
  6. Repeat from step 2 until you have as much perch meat as you wish or are tired of fishing.

Catfish-catching plan (for Kanixihk)

Preferred Lures: (catch Catfish, all at 5 db max)

  • Clay Slug (ideal, but rare and caught by herb-gathering)
  • Glass Worm (less rare, but catches many varieties of fish, including 4 Perch & 2 Tilapia)
  • Slime Moth (less rare, catches several varieties [inc. 4 Perch]) [BEST]

Resetting Lures:

  • Spittlebug (very common; few fish varieties inc. 1 Perch) [BEST]
  • Leaf Snapper (moderately common; few fish varieties) [BEST]
  • Golden Asp (very common; many varieites inc. 4 Perch and 2 Tilapia)
  • Bristleworm (common; several varieties inc. 1 Perch)

Method:

  1. Fish with Slime Moth/Glass Worm until 5 db Catfish caught.
  2. Switch to Spittlebug/Leaf Snapper and fish until 10 valid fish messages reached.
  3. Repeat.
