Session 1

Hirokache: **********

Hirokache: Hello everyone! Before we start, I'll quickly go over how we are running this.

Hirokache: The questions submitted so far were given over to the candidates to allow them time to formulate a response. This was necessary because, due to time differences, we will have two separate debates ... and allowing only one group time did not seem terribly fair.

Hirokache: I'll post a question ... each candidate will respond, and then will all a couple of minutes for follow-up questions, before moving on to the next question.

TheMazeEcho: A note to the candidates: please give me some time between postings to translate for dedenav, as well as the other way around.

dedenav: hello hello

kuupid: Hello

Casino: when were these questions submitted and can we see them so we don't duplicate them?

dedenav: yep , it's hard for me to explain in english, so i use a mazetranlator

Hirokache: They were submitted over the past few days in response to promptings over PBS ;p You will see them shortly, but if you have other questions, feel free to /chat me with them (duplications are fine, I can combine them).

TheMazeEcho: http://www.atitd.org/wiki/tale6/Hirokache/dp_questions

Hirokache: *********

Hirokache: Question 1: How would you handle it, as DP, if you were involved in an interpersonal conflict with another player?

kuupid: This is a good question. I would have to get an interpeture to help me understand what if being said, and to translate my response.

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: I usually avoid entering conflicts with other players. It has happened in past tales that some player was upset with me, and tried to grief me. I simply ignored him and he tired of the game. We should keep in mind that this is a game, we should have fun and play together, not against each other. But if the other player wouldn't stop the conflict, I'd ask another DP to settle the matter.

Lazybum: Conlfict is a natural part of this game and while it is nice to avoid it I belive it a neccacary part in which can strenghen relationships. I would see this conflict as a problem for both of us and try to work out a mutual solution that would benifet us both or at least not hurt each other.

Casino: Question for dedenav Your a DP dede, why would you ignore the 'griefing' number one and secondly if you allowed another DP to handle it, how is that executing your office of DP for which you were elected?

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: Casino, as long as the conflict with the player stays within the game rules, I prefer to have another DP intervene, so as not to be accused of being biased. But if that player starts being really insulting, I might consider a ban. If the griefing goes over the game rules, I'll ask GMs to remove the griefing buildings.

Casino: Question to Laztbum: What if the party involved refused to compromise what would be your next resolution and approach?

Lazybum: The next resolution would be to see if this conflict is inflicting damage upon more than just me. If it is then i might consider a ban.

TheMazeEcho: Lazybum, I'm translating everything said here to dedenav, don't worry :)

oDiS: In english "it is very common for a person to avoid or deny the existence of a conflict. Unfortunately, in this case, the conflict often lingers in the background during the interaction between participants and creates the potential for further tension and conflict even more"

Trillian: question for kuupid, why would you need a translator per se?

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: to Lazybum: As I said previously, I'd prefer have another DP settle the matter, to have an unbiased opinion.

kuupid: because I only speak English and I would like to know what is being said to me and I would like them to understand what I am saying :). It's only fair :)

TheMazeEcho: kuupid, nobody mentioned an intercultural conflict, but a conflict between you and another player (could be an english-speaking player).

Trillian: question to kuupid but it asks what would you do in a personal conflict, nothing about the nationality of the indiviual who you are in conflict with, so I suppose what am asking is what is your answer to the original question , I think :)

kuupid: true, and I would also handle the problem to the best of my abiilty. withouth having to ban. But try and solve it in a propective manner and become friends after.

kuupid: If Egypt would work as a team, there shouldn't be a lot of conflict :)

kuupid: But unfortunately they don't always

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 2: Have you played ATITD under other names in this tale or past ones, and if so, what were the names you played under?

kuupid: only my mules who most know is Crashley, last tale when my grandson quit playing I used him which was Galiath

kuupid: and I created 2 accounts to help with the monuments last tale, but I can't remember their character names

Lazybum: I have been playing since tale 2 as Lazybum, yes i have had other accounts- but they were soley for events like in tale 4 I was Mathius .

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: I started playing in T2 under this name, and have used it ever since. I have also sometimes logged my spouse, but anyone can see who she/he is by checking my info.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 3: If you were not in the election and forced to vote , which candidate would you vote for?

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: I would vote for lazybum, because I have known him since T3, we've been in several common guilds.

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: and since the voting ssytem allows for multiple votes, i'll also vote for kuupid, for the same reasons.

kuupid: First of all I hope no one is forced to vote, and we have some strong canidates here for the first DP round. I would have to vote for the one who I thought would be fair, and honest to everyone. I don't know much about dedenav but would like to, and I would have to vote for Philadelphia

Lazybum: The one holding the gun to my head? - Really, I would vote evenly for Kuupid dedenav and odis. kuupid is such a nice person who trys to help everyone out and is always open to new friends. dedenav while we do have a language barrier, has always been my neighbor and helped me when i needed it and brought me competition which i thrive for, then odis because he has helped so much of egypt with his coordination and guidance of mapping out all the cooking ingredients.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 4: I have heard that in other tales DPs elected at the beginning of the tale leave before the game end. This leaves a vacumn at the end game when they are needed the most. What is your (each DP candidate) committment to the game and how will you manage to last the entire tale.

kuupid: I usually last the entire game, and do like helping with monuments. There was a period, while fighting cancer I didn't play as much. But I did check in from time to time. I am in remission and plan to stay that way :). I will be here for all of this tale, and was here for most of last tale up to the end.

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: As I said earlier, I have started playing in T2, and have never left the game. The only times I wasn't in gazme was between Tales, when the server was down. I think I am committed to stay until the end, don't worry. And I manage because I have a very nice bunch of friends, we are having too much fun in game to want to leave it.

Lazybum: i usually leave mid tale for a break of a couple months but come back before endgame approaches. Due to how quick the past tale has been and how well we are advancing in this tale I feel the break is not needed.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 5: If you had the power to change one aspect of this game, what would it be, and why?

kuupid: to be honest, I don't think I would change anything. I like the way it is now. Unless we can put Teppy in the vigil bonfire :)

Lazybum: I do have the power to change aspects of the game by making laws and by building monuments to add new tests while taking away old ones, exept for in t4? where we favored someone else and got new skills instead.

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: I'd create a flax-growing machine.

Lazybum: I am a flax growing machine RAWR!!!!!!!

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: sets a trap to capture Lazybum.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 6: In past tales, have you had a need for a DP to settle a dispute, if so, what was the dispute, outcome, and would you do anything differently if you were the DP in the situation?

kuupid: I can't say that I have ever asked a DP for help settling a dispute.

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: No, I have always been able to settle my problems directly. One of my previous spouses was a DP (Kaayru) and I never had him to intervene either.

Lazybum: In tale 2 one of my primary guilds, "Gardians of Re", was captured and torn down by an elders spouse... luckly that guild had 2 or 3 dp's in it and banned him. I would not do anything diffrently as that was a clear intent to grief a group of 45+ people

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 7: Can you list your resume? IE, what are your qualifications for being DP?

kuupid: I was a Resturant manager for 15 years, also worked in a prison and a facotry. I had my own daycare from 2004 to 2007. So I have lot's of public relations. I feel that I am level headed, fair and unbiased.

Lazybum: I enjoy passing tests and seek oracles this tale, have overseen pyramid construction, I love to drink and have many peopel over to drink, and aw we all know wine and beer makes for a good day in egypt. in RL I have been in managment positions for the past 14 years .

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: In game, I am well known among the french community, as well as with other people, I am oline daily, or close enough, I have a good knowledge of the game. In RL, I am managing a big team in a factory. I also stay calm, both in RL and in game, and prefer leading by exemple.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 8: What one thing would you bring back from previous tales and why?

Hirokache: (by the way, feel free to submit follow-up questions still, I'll get to them, but trying to keep things moving at the same time :) )

Lazybum: Yokir tables!!!!!!!! i want a couple in my bar.

kuupid: yes Yokir tables, and other conflict games that we can play without having to go to a conflict shrine

Lazybum: or at least the ability to go to a conflict shrine at any time to go play them.... instead of waiting for events and have to play what "Da Man" wants you to play at that given day

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: Nothing, I like the fact that each Tale is a bit different from the previous ones, it's a new challenge each time.

Lazybum: dedenav is a conflict hater!!!!!!!

dedenav: he he he :)

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 9: A griefer from previous tales has returned, he has already built a sucession of woodplanes around compounds in Seven Lakes, GMs cannot remove them, he is atm a trial account, suggest measures for dealing with him and his inconiventient mess.

kuupid: First of all I would give hiim a hug, kill hiim with kindness and ask him politely to remove what he has done. If he didn't put him in jail

kuupid: if he continued, I would have to ban him after the jail time

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: I was there this morning, and helped sana and HULK get their stones back. This player is a known griefer, stated his intent in both Regional and L2PBS, so I don't think I'd have discussed too long before banning him.

Lazybum: write a code of conduct law that stats that "griefer" shall be removed from game and all items build by said griefer shal l be destroyed" - a code of conduct law usually goes into affect quicker than a regular law and it will solve the problems of both the griefer and the woodplanes at the same time.

kuupid: In hte past there have been codes of conducts like that and still nothing was done for a griefer

Lazybum: there have been many coc's that have passed in the previous tales that have banned said person. but if the above did not work i would probably use a ban even though it will not solve the problem entirely as dpa is seeming to take too long to come into affect

Morrigan: ok how about a less deliberate griefer - for example a UK child of the "chav" class who is simply running around annoying everyone in the region by his habitual swearing and by begging for stuff?

kuupid: you can ask them politely to stop, and then try and mentor him, he just might need a little push to the right direction.

TheMazeEcho: speaking as a GM, if a player is swearing and insulting in public chats (regional or mics) we can jail him to let him cool his heels.

Lazybum: usually people that beg for stuff are new players that want to advance quickly and - swearing does not bother me much but it does try to bother other people- Me i would give him the tools to get the job done himself and if he needed help doing it ex. quarying. i would help him.

kuupid: I have actually come across this in past tales, if you all remember Fee

oDiS: oh god, not fee *shudders*

kuupid: and I mentor'd him and he did eventually turn around for the most part, but did quit his swearing

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: I passed mentor in several tales, so I know well how to handle those players. We need to teach them how to be self-sufficient, and to have fun in game.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: Question 10: When you, as DP, go to stick your foot in the proper location ... sandals or barefoot?

kuupid: if it's in the mud, barefoot of course :)

Lazybum: sandals. Because they pick up sand moreso than being barefoot and i want it to feel like sandpaper

kuupid: you don't like the feel of the squishiness between the toes?

TheMazeEcho: (sorry for the delay, the question is a bit untranslatable into french...)

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: barefoot.

Lazybum: from my interpritation of the question kuupid. the proper place is the rear of someone else while banning them. so No i dont like feeling the squishiness between the toes

Casino: Question to All candidates: Will You use your Ban Powers if Necessary? and Lazybum in t2 when the player was banned for the destruction of a guild, the DP's in that guild were biased, as they were in that guild, should they have been stripped of their DP authority for doing so?

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: Yes, I will use my ban powers if necessary.

kuupid: If Necessary I would.

dedenav: like red buton

Lazybum: I would not be afraid to use my powers no. and in T2 the dp's were not being biased as they wrote a law up aswell and when it recieved x amount of votes , i forgot the number, then they banned him, it was not like oh you mess with us ill mess you up situation, it was handled very well in my opinion and no i do not thinkg thier DP power should have been stripped.

Casino: ty all for your responses :)

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: In the past, some people failed to ever return a Star Lab to the University, but instead used them for other purposes. What, if any action, would you take to deal with this issue?

kuupid: star labs should be returned. You can ask them to return them politely when they are done with them. And maybe a code of conduct to should be written to enforce that. But I have never seen it inforced

Lazybum: In past tales i have seen people with 3-4 starlabs sitting in thier yard. I msg them and ask when they are showing off the stars to find out thier true intent of accually using them as they should or just using them as lawn decorations then i would encourage a nice showing at a designated place where wine and lots of people show up to vote for thier favorite stars on each.

Lazybum: I think egypt needs more lawn gnomes

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: I don't think it's part of a DP role to handle that, but as the other candidates say, everyone should explain to these players that holding up on Star Labs does prevent the game from advancing. Pyromaniacs need those labs, and the stars they produce, to beautify all players' lives.

Morrigan: But if he sees no wrong in his swearing, for example?

Iset: strutter prefers plastic pink ibis

Hirokache: The question from Morrigan was a follow up to the "swearing griefer" discussion from earlier

Lazybum: there is always /squelch

TheMazeEcho: the /squelch doesn't work in Regional or Main.

kuupid: I think a good talking to and to let him know that others don't like it, if that doesn't work then use the squelch

Bryce: Inquiring minds want to know when the swimsuit competition will be in the DP beauty pagent, i mean debate.

kuupid: wears a string bikini

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: wears a string monokini

Lazybum: ./me gets out his weezle wear

Hirokache: All of the submitted questions have been asked. If the DP candidates would like to make any 'closing statement', please feel free to do so. After that, we'll call the 'official' debate complete, and any further discussion / debate can be done at will in PBS :)

Lazybum: Kuupid what is your standpoint on clinker dropping in peoples yards

kuupid: I would like to say that this is a strong group running for DP. And that the people need to vote for who they think would do the best job as a DP :)

kuupid: Don't drop clinker in peoples yards, unless it's your own

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: Vote for me, I'll give you a beer of my own RL brewing ;)

Casino: omw dede ;)

kuupid: oooh, now for the bribes of votes lol

dedenav: :)

Koinif: Now, there's some ethics for ya'

Casino: great job candidates and to Hiro :)

Casino: now get back to work!

Lazybum: Thank you all for listening to us debate and partaking in the quesions... they were all very good and when/if i win this election i shall throw a party at my place with lotsa wine and hookah smoking

kuupid: I don't want bribes ;). But I will continue to hug everyone even if not elected :)

Lazybum: if i lose ill still have a party just at the winners place

kuupid: everyone needs a hug daily

Nirivia: uhh, i like hugs :)

TheMazeEcho: dedenav: thank you all, and good luck to all candidates.

kuupid: Now I shall go and do my burn baby burn thing :)

dedenav: so, thx a lot maze for your job :)

Morrigan: another vigil?

kuupid: nope making ash ;)

kuupid: I was told I am a pyromanic, so just going to prove it lol

Morrigan: hahaha

kuupid: dedenav, let's get together and get to know each other someday :)

Hirokache: Thanks to all the candidates for participating, the citizens who submitted your questions, and to TheMazeEcho for his translation services! Part 2 will be tonight at 7PM EST (should be listed on your calendar now). Until then, Bazaar is turned back over for your trading needs!

dedenav: thx hiro for the debat :)

kuupid: tyvm for holding this debate :)

Session 2 - oDiS, Diania, Philadelphia

Rabble: Hello, welcome to the debate. It is being hosted here afterall so normal PBS spam doesn't interfere with it

Rabble: The questions submitted so far were given over to the candidates to allow them time to formulate a response. This was necessary because, due to time differences, we will have two separate debates ... and allowing only one group time did not seem terribly fair.

Rabble: I'll post a question ... each candidate will respond, and then will all a couple of minutes for follow-up questions, before moving on to the next question.

Rabble: Question 1: How would you handle it, as DP, if you were involved in an interpersonal conflict with another player?

Rabble: Diania, answer first please

diania: well, firstly let me let you all know I am honoured to get this far, and have not been given the questions before hand. So this is just off the cuff. I know this is a standard question and the standard answer is I would moderate and try the concillatory process to achieve an outcome benifical to both parties. 99% on conflicts can be resolved this way. I believe I have the skills ( as I was a GM on Bastet server) to be able to facillitate this

Rabble: if anyone else has followup questions based on the candidates responses, ask them now and I'll put them through

oDiS: Great question! First, I would take a few minutes to analyze the situation, then step back, and try to look at the situation from a 3rd party perspective. I would then try to put myself in the other person's shoes and see why their viewpoint is the way it is. From there I would form a decision. But before I continue to execute the decision of how to resolve the conflict in a peaceful fashion, I would pose the situation to some of my peers and see what they believe. Getting opinions from a "jury" or sorts to see if their opinions mesh with mine would help me confirm what actions need to be taken. Of course, if their opinions widely stray from mine, that means I need to take a step back and re-evaluate my opinion to try and align it with theirs.

Philadelphia: Funny, i was just involved with an interpersonal conflict involving a member of my Egyptian family with a guild. In that case things were TOO personal and I had asked someone to intervene as I could be seen as biased. That's where additional opinions are a must. A few tales back I was invovled with another conflict and its crazy how things can be perceived so very differently here in a text based conversation. Most important thing is to be patient and talk things out, either in person OR thru an intermediary.

Rabble: Ok folks, let me explain a few things since there is lots of confusion atm

Rabble: 1. Hiro was schedule to do this debate. But RL got hold of him and he's not available

Rabble: 2. This was dropped on me just before I started it and I hate DP debates and rarely listen to them. I did not plan out any methods to handle them

Rabble: 3. The questions asked here were sent in to Hiro over the last few days. The other 3 candidates already answered these questions earlier today in the first debate

Rabble: You can see those questions and answers in the bazaar log. So we'll go through those 10 questions here and then do a free-form question part for the candidates

Rabble: Finally, to speed things up, I am changing the rules. I'll ask the question. THen all three candidates should reply

Rabble: I'll put through the posts one at a time then open the floor to follow up questions

Rabble: So here's the follow ups to question #1:

Kanixihk: in this case diania you are one of the parties - I believe the question is how your being a DP would affect your ability to handle a conflict like this where you're personally involved

Rabble: (please note that ANYONE can post followup questions to any of the candidates atm)

Rabble: diania, want to follow up that question by Kanixhk?

diania: Yes indeed. I rarely get into situations that need conflict resolution , as I said, With past experience as a GM and realife I am able to Keep myself out of mischief. My past skills also help me to deflat conflict before it becomes a real issue. Seeing the other party's point of view helps and should always be implimented.

Rabble: Anyone else have any followup questions for any of the 3 candidates? If not, we'll move onto question #2

Rabble: Question 2: Have you played ATITD under other names in this tale or past ones, and if so, what were the names you played under?

diania: I have played under the names of Diania and Melleri(GM)

oDiS: I never played bastet, so I didn't have to worry about changing my name like other people did. Everyone has always known me as oDiS, and always will. That is, unless I decide to rename myself "TheDoctor", and my wife "RiverSong"

Philadelphia: Since Tale 3 have only played as Philadelphia (aka Philly). Had 1 or two mules, quit husbands mostly, but nothing major.

Rabble: Does anyone have followups to the first two questions? 3 minutes until we move on if not

Baldur: oDis, do you care to correct your statement? after all, River Song is not the wife, but actualy the daughter

oDiS: RiverSong is a child of the tardis, not the doctor. And as you remember the small ceremony from the season 6 ender, they did a tratidtional marriage via a kiss, and a ribbon wrapped around their hands.

Rabble: No clue what any of you are talking about there. It must be geek stuff. Btw, WTB / WTS posts will not go through until the debate ends

Rabble: So if no more serious replies onto question #3 ..

Rabble: Question 3: If you were not in the election and forced to vote , which candidate would you vote for?

Rabble: Candidates, pick up the pace please :) Let's get your answers in. We got folks waiting on you! :)

oDiS: Tough question. This has to be one of the most competitive playing fields ever. If would definitely be max voting bars for kuupid, lazy, and philly.

Philadelphia: I agree with oDis, this is a kick butt group. First would be kuupid, maybe oDiS (kiss) then Lazybum

diania: First I would look at the candidates and see that there are some really nice folks running. However, even if someone is nice does that mean they should be DP. My answer is no. Some folks are just too nice and cannot make the hard decisions that needs to be made from time to time. As we have seen in the past MOST dp's do not like conflict and "hide". For this reason and for her interpersonal skills I would vote Philly.

Kanixihk: this question should've maybe had an "and why?" - so let me add it post-hoc

Rabble: Candidates, your response to Kanixhk's followup?

Philadelphia: why? I have been guildies of them all and trust them with a DP ban.

Philadelphia: *with (correction)

oDiS: My votes go towards 3 people that I know can make thos hard decisions. And, I know them all very personally. :)

Rabble: Anyone else with a followup question?

Rabble: Wootage! Hirokache has returned and is taking over for question #4 and on

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: I have heard that in other tales DPs elected at the beginning of the tale leave before the game end. This leaves a vacumn at the end game when they are needed the most. What is your (each DP candidate) committment to the game and how will you manage to last the entire tale.

Philadelphia: love to Rabble.

oDiS: I have every intention of playing this tale the entire way through. I have a steady job, and an amazing wife who enjoys the fact that my hobby isn't life threatening. I play when I wake up in the morning, I leave myself logged in at work to chat, and I kick up the client when I get home as well.

diania: This telling I have set myself some lofty goals that will keep me interested throughout the entire tale. This tale I really want to delve deeply into wine making. This new persuit takes lot of time and patience and I am just the girl to do it. I play about 12 hours a day and my primary guild of 4 players is rather large so it keeps me hopping. This is the beautiful thing about tale, that is, there is NEVER nothing to do. No time to be bored! I love it!!

Philadelphia: I've been Teppy's fool, I mean fan for 4 tales now. As a full time employee, full time wife and part-time student, time is precious, but somehow I always made time to play. even with the o-chem book propped open. I plan on playing this tale and T7, and though I certainly will not be here 24/7, you should see me running around quite frequently.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: If you had the power to change one aspect of this game, what would it be, and why?

Hirokache: (as an aside, feel free to send follow-up questions, or questions you want to add ... they may not be posted immediately, but I will save them and work to fit them in where appropriate)

oDiS: If you want a serious answer, it would be this test. I would make is still an active ingame system - but I would remove it as a test. But, if you want an off the wall, egyptian-beautification answer, I'd bring back the old alembic graphic.

diania: Fishing! I love the new fishing idea however, I feel it is still a little broken. I would love to see us be able to fish up chests(rarely) that may have some petty loot in it like some gems or wheat or papy or silk etc. also we could fish up old boots, seaweed(for cooking) etc. But as it stands, fishing is a little broken. I also would like to be able to paint our compounds as we used to do in earlier tales.

oDiS: diania, that's very similar to the system that will be in the Isis' Bounty oracle test - but not with fishing. :)

Philadelphia: I would love to have some sort of beast of burden (ponies, real mules, cats with packs?). Seriously a hindrance in the game. Oh, and bring back the old avatars without charging 100 bucks.

diania: oh I havent seen the formentioned isis bounty oracle tests yet odis.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: What distinguishes you as a DP candidate over the rest?

oDiS: I am well known, and I've been around for a few tales. That, and you cna't ever get me to shut up. I am a very nice person, but I am not afraid of taking serious roles any conflicts that arise. Actually, I love to mediate, and help in any way, shape, or form I can throughout the game. Helping people in whatever way I can manage brings me great joy. :)

Philadelphia: Voting for DP is voting for someone you trust to use the ban stick in the right fashion. I am trustworthy, and am not one to jump to conclusions or rush to a decision.

diania: That in my past game experience I have had to make tough decisions, as gm I jailed numerous times for afk macroing, even jailed friends for doing it. I know that most situations are able to be resolved with concillatory processes ( which I learnt at University studying psychology), however if this breaks down and concilliation is not possible I would entertain other avenues to bring closure to both parties. I also know if a bad infraction should occurr ( eg someone blow up cs or other peoples camps on purpose), if mediation didn't work, I definately have no porblem banning when necessary.

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: A griefer from previous tales has returned, he has already built a sucession of woodplanes around compounds in Seven Lakes, GMs cannot remove them, he is atm a trial account, suggest measures for dealing with him and his inconiventient mess.

oDiS: Easy. The DPA law will be implemented soon enough, and he'll soon run out of trial time It is pointless to waste a ban on a trial. Of course though, ask him to remove them politely. If he does not do so, ask him again. If he still does not do so by the time he pays, warn him and ask again. If he does not remove them after three warnings, and by the time he pays, you have to get rid of the problem . Either by a ban, or by asking a GM if that since he is paid, if there is anything they can do about it.

diania: Firstly I would speak to the "griefier" and explain egyptian etiquette when building. If this did not work I would ask him to remobve the woodplanes and I would recompense him for the matierials. If necessary offer a bonus for doing so. 9 out of 10 people would be obliging and remove their planes. I do not believe that this is an instance at this time (unless things escalate dramatically) for any other course of action. If all else fails the DPA law will come into effect soon enough and the issues is null and void.

Philadelphia: I would find out the griefers connections; who is he associating with or talking to. Ask them a bit about this griefer and why he might be causing the grief. If/when he logged in again, I would attempt to talk to him and ask him what was going on, get his side (even if it wasn't right) of the story. Then I would tell him the other side of the story and ask him politely if he could remove the woodplanes, explaining about the woodplane blight. If griefer really doesn't understand, I would indicate dto him that he is impcating other players play and that he may be removed. If there are other DPs aroudn I would consult. them prior to any ban. If there are no other DPs, I would probably consult some of my peers. But ultimately I think I would ban the griefre, if he does not comply.

Philadelphia: sorry for misspellings, hubby lurking. :/

diania: btw odis the gm's cannot give you that information about billing

Hirokache: I don't believe odis meant for the GM's to give information about billing (a /info will already tell if you a payer is paid up) ... he meant that if the griefer began playing, asking the GM if there was anything that could be done ... ie did the griefer actually break any rules that would justify GM involvement.

BusDriverBen: I like Phillys answer, trying to get to the ROOT of the problem, and trying to find out WHY? You other two were simply warnings/DPA/ban.... I belive this shows HOW a dp will act in multiple situations... responce?

diania: No bud driver. I said that I would not ban on this instance as the dpa law will come into effect, I also said concilliation 9 times out of 10 work. I also stated that I would ask he remove the items and I personally would replace them with a bonus. This instance is NOT an instance for banning. in the concillation process one finds out the root of the matter and often it is something easy to resolve

Hirokache: *** oDiS has had to leave (which was why we were supposed to start much earlier than we did, but I'll cover that in a little bit).

Shiranai: could a world builder move them?

diania: no world builders cannot without permission shiranai

sunandshadow: I am a mod at a discussion forum, and anyone with a past history of confirmed offences who tries to make a new account gets IP banned and autodeletion of any posts made (equivalent autodestroy any wood planes)

Kanixihk: BDB, it's nice to get to the root of the problem. But some ppl are just trolls and want to see egypt burn, e.g. the Geodude case. There's not reall much room for mediation when someone is really getting their kicks out of causing trouble.

Philadelphia: and there's a difference between woodplanes and actual abuse.

Shayra: Why is any non-paying player allowed to build ENDLESS numbers of "temporary" buildings that are not temporary at all which we are then stuck with for months? diania: exactly philly

Kanixihk: Shayra, why is teppy such an evil god? Answer one of those questions and you will have the answer to both.

diania: shayra because that is a teppy issue and only he of the dev team can remedy that

Philadelphia: if someone was abusing another player incessantly and non-stop he would be banned.

Hirokache: ******

Baldur: Piladelphia, do you care to alaborate on what would make you a distinguished DP candidate? I think everyone would say we could trust them with the bans

Philadelphia: since last tale you can be the greatest mediator and mentor, but can you be trusted with a ban? I am trustworth in that I would NOT use a ban for revenge or because I disliked a player.

Lazybum: I have been in philly's guild since tale 2 and i can vouche on phillys fairness and un biased attitude

sly1: how many people hacve u mentored this tale?

diania: On a informal basis numerous times this tale. We all mentor to a degree. Whenever someone asks you a question about the game and you answer it, you are mentoring. So to put a numer on that, I cannot as it is numerous. But my husband and I usually mid tale always set up a mentoring guild to help those that come midway in tale as they are often so very lost.

Philadelphia: depends on what you definition of mentored is? I practice accidental mentorship-being there if someone needs assistance, a resource or a avatar to talk to. Gone the distance to help someone with a gazelle, build a cp or catch a cicada in a mountaintop.

Philadelphia: agrees with diania

Hirokache: Since oDiS left, at this point, we'll take any questions specifically for either Philadelphia or diania (as I started to do above).

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: This was submitted anonymously: diania, what did you do to get your GM powers stripped on the Bastet shard, and how will that affect your ability to be a DP in this tale?

diania: well yes I was demoted due to issues with senior gm and dev, but after I spoke to teppy I was fully reinstated as it wasn't an issue. Secondly all things pertaining to gm is supposed to be in gm chat, which is why I guess this gossip got so contorted beyond what it really was.

Skyfeather: Can you go into more details about what those issues were? You are asking us to trust you with ban-power.

diania: I am sorry I cannot say what happened and with whom as that would drag gm's dirty business into the debate. but suffice to say it turnt out to be a non issue

Shiranai: I think you need to expalin as much as you can without naming names.

diania: This is a prime example I am making a tough decision NOT to involve said gm into debate

diania: which is a quality a DP should have :)

Nchanter: You are asking us to trust you with ban power and you've been using your status as a GM on bastet as a reason why we should. But as your powers were revoked, even temporarily, on Bastet, AND you were then not made a GM here when T6 started, I think it's unfair to use it as a "selling point" and then not be willing to answer questions about it when asked.

diania: sadly gm confidentiality is the same as dp confidentiality

Baldur: Diania, although not involving anyone in the issue is adierable. as an issue for a DP debate, it might be wise to give some ides of the issue / non-issue involved. to let the general populus understand where you are coming from and let them know they can trust you

LuluDivine: What is "DP confidentiality"?

diania: did I ban on bastet? no. Did I have the chance to ban? YES daily. I CHOSE not to be a gm this time around, I missed playing the game fully. Lets say, I know when and were to impliment bans or jailings(when I was GM). As I said all my powers were reinstated by teppy. IF teppy believed I was not trustworthy he would not have fully reinsgtated them. Or I would have been on probation. Which didn't happen. SO teppy trsjuted me, so that should be enough for everyones curiosity :)

Fumen: going to have to agree with diania on this one. She can no more disclose what went on there than I can about some of the games I've play-tested and were never released

diania: just so you know, it wasnt an issue of gm abuse ;)

BusDriverBen: agree with diania and Fumen.... how about we trust TEPPY, that what ever it was, ultimatly it wasn't bad enough to permanitly remove her powers...

Hirokache: ******

Hirokache: So, at this point, a number of questions were submitted but not asked. I had some RL interference, and unfortunately did not have a backup plan in place. With oDiS having to leave, I'm going to wrap up the 'official' part of this debate for now.

Hirokache: For the non-asked questions, we'll do one of two things: hold another debate (and make sure we can actually start on time), or be less interesting and rely on a forum post where the candidates can answer them all

Hirokache: You are, of course, free to carry on any conversation you wish in PBS, so if further debate occurs there ... have at it! For now though, we'll bring Bazaar back to its normal trade channel status, and will let you know soon how I'll make up for the not-so-organized debate sessions this turned out to be :)

Lazybum: On that note I invite all canadites to come to my bar at 1100 -500 as well as anyone interested in asking us questions as we drink wine and smoke on the hookah. time permiting on when we are all on

diania: thankyou hirokache and egypt. remember to vote not for who is nice, but who will stick to their convictions and get the job done. thankyou

Catote: "This was submitted anonymously" sounds unfair in my ears. Not least because alot of people know each other here and/or play with each other here. I have already tracked a number of hard questions from other candidates guild members ...

Philadelphia: though not as exciting, i would suggest we have a forum post so that all the DPs could participate without changing lifestyles, time zones and schedules.

Philadelphia: Also, Thanks Hirokache for modding and coordinating the debates.
