Debate between Jaylenaeybarre and Obol August 2013

GHawkins: Welcome to our newest DP debate, and thanks to the candidates who have agreed to share their innermost motivations with us!

If you have any questions, please feel free to post it directly here. If you're not sure how to use the wiki or would prefer to submit a question anonymously, just /chat GHawkins and I'll get it posted.

FIRST QUESTION Can you share a little about yourself, what you enjoy about ATITD as well as how long you have been playing?

Jaylenaeybarre: I'm in my late 40's and as a woman have a bit of unusual job: I'm a driving instructor, I learn people how to drive trucks/semitrailers and bus - to get their licence :). Had my own business for about 12 years.

Played Istaria for years, then WOW for about 3 months (pure waist of time) and then stumbled on this game :) I like the community and that one has to build it from scratch.

I'm playing since mid T4, where I was a total noob, but several nice players helped me a lot and they got me hooked on the game, and I'm certainly gonna be here when T7 starts. I like doings tests, research, learn new stuff and try to help newbies as much as I can, donate lots of stuff to the café - 1st time that I tried to write a guide: making gears which I hope helps other people to master it too, set up quite a few gems to try at the gemcutting school.

Obol: I started playing this game about the middle of Tale 3 and grew very fond of the game, mainly due to the people as well as the crafting aspect. I was playing TSO (TheSimsOnline) where I meet Shemei and she talked me into playing this game and we have been spouses here every since. I try to master most of the tests and then help others pass them or just assist as needed.

SECOND QUESTION If you win this election you will pass the test of the Demi-Pharaoh and be our 21th DP of this tale. What will you do differently once you have the role?

Jaylenaeybarre: nothing really, same as I'm doing now.

Obol: I agree with Jaylenaeybarre, it wont change my game play unless called on to serve.

THIRD QUESTION: Have you seen any bannable behavior? What would be your approach as a DP to handling the situation?

Jaylenaeybarre: personnaly no - I did hear about Geo.. at start of tale but not myself no. Give a warning to him/her and if they keep causing trouble, a temporary ban and then finally a total ban - Make screenshots about the warning so that my fellow dp's can see what was talked about.

When the final ban is done: setting up a wikipage so the whole community can read about it, because everyone deserves to know what/why it has happened.

Obol: Again, I agree with Jaylenaeybarre's approach. I have no desire to use the ban powers, I would rather try to work out some kind of agreement with the griefer to avoid any banning if possible.

FOURTH QUESTION What sort of leadership do you believe we need from our DPs?

Jaylenaeybarre: We all do the best we can.

Obol: A good leader is one that finds the strengths and weaknesses in their team and uses those to the benefit of the team. A good leader is also one that knows when to follow.

FIFTH QUESTION: What question would you like to be asked, and why?

Jaylenaeybarre: Why you keep coming back to this game? How often you play/day or week? Got time to play any other online games, which ones and why?

Since you played several tales, what is it that you still can't figure out or going to try before this tale ends or try to learn next tale?

Since this tale is going on and on, is there anything you still focus on?

Obol: That is a strange question..... I fear no questions, I am open and honest in answering any question asked of me, so be careful what you ask, you may not like the answer :)

SIXTH QUESTION: What would you do if you found out someone else had accessed your account and used your ban powers? (Note: Spouselog does not allow access to DP Ban powers.)

Jaylenaeybarre: No one can access my account - I also change my password from time to time. In case it would ever happen: notify in all public channels what happened, tell my fellow dp's an gm - trying to help the banned people getting their camp up and running as much as possible

Obol: Again I agree with Jaylenaeybarre's response and I also change my password often and nor do I tell my spouse. Having my account hacked is a serious concern and I would inform Teppy immediately, then close my account until the issue is resolved.

SEVENTH QUESTION: Would you rather be a pirate or a ninja, and why?

Jaylenaeybarre: neither, want to be myself at all times :)

Obol: Both have good and bad qualities, the pirates use a form of democracy and voted on what to do next, the ninjas fought for the underdog in some cases, so I guess I would be a ninja pirate if I could avoid the bad aspects of both.

EIGHTH QUESTION: (Anonymous by listener request) How do you feel about the DPA law? Have you claimed buildings under the DPA, and how often? Why do you (or don't you) participate in the practice?

Obol: Since the population of Egypt fluctuates a lot with people leaving and new players joining, I think the DPA law has it's good points. Yes, I have used it to clear rotting buildings and help keep Egypt clean. I have also used it to free up abandoned camps so new players can use the area. I know some use it just to be claim a large windfall of resources which can be an issue it the resources are horded. I think without it Egypt would get very cluttered with unusable sites that others could use.

Jaylenaeybarre: Yes I have, like Obol said, we need to keep clutter away so that new players can build in a certain area. Imagine that the law didn't exist! I hate seeing all that abandoned beginners stuff (we need the newbie isle again). I donated lots of stuff to research/public camps - also when someone asks me (in a decent way) that they could use the camp/building, I'll give it to them - although I had once been fooled by someone - another guildy told me that after a week, they had cleared out the camp :( I chatted that char and said that those actions have consequences in matters of when needing help ..)

Imho 60 days is a bit short and I think lots of new people don't know about the heir action.

FINAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT: Let's tell Egypt what they will get in a DP by voting for you.

Jaylenaeybarre: Voting for me is voting for someone who is always around, helping as much as I can

Obol: You would get the same old Obol, always here to help if I can. For those that know me, then you know, for those that don't, ask around, my actions speak for them self.

GHawkins: That's it for now, but stick around. More questions may very well be coming.

There is, however, one last thing to do - and that is to head on out and get your votes cast for the next DemiPharaoh!
