According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deben_%28unit%29 a deben was a unit of weight in ancient Egypt. There were 2 different versions of in Egyptian history. In the Old and Middle Kingdoms it was approximately 13.6 grams and in the New Kingdom it was approximately 91 grams. I say approximately because units of measurement were not standardized at that time as they are now. I have not consulted with Teppy on this, but I'm assuming he is using the Old/Middle kingdom for his unit of deben. After doing some calculations, 500 deben (the default carry capacity at 0 STR/DEX) in the New Kingdom measurements would be approximately 100 lbs. with 4000 deben (max permanent STR/DEX of 7/7) being approximately 800 lbs. Clearly too much for a human to carry. As a contrast, The Old/Middle Kingdom weights are 500 deben is approximately 15 lbs and 4000 deben is approximately 120 lbs. This is a much more realistic weight as a very strong person could carry 120 lbs. (I have carried up to 92 lbs myself, though not very far). In conclusion, I would venture to say that the deben used in the game is most likely about 13.6 grams.
