Debate between LadyKaytay and Lenala from January 10, 2014

GHawkins: '/me dusts off Worship Station microphone and sneezes.
GHawkins: WELCOME EGYPT to a live DemiPharaoh debate, our first live debate since May!
GHawkins: For the duration of the debate, normal Worship Station deadair will be halted (you can use L2PBS for worship station related posts during this period). The candidates in this election are LadyKaytay and Lenala.
GHawkins: If you have questions that you would like to submit during the debate, just submit them to Worship Station or via Chat to GHawkins but please note that comments, discussion, personal attacks, and redundant questions will be tabled or asked to be rephrased. Also, I will do my best to also reframe any candidate-specific questions so that all candidates can answer them (though your original question will remain intact for the person you specified.)

FIRST QUESTION For those who have never had the opportunity to interact with you before can you share a little about yourself, what you enjoy about ATITD as well as how long you have been playing?

Lenala: Hello, Egypt! I'm Lenala, I'm a professional MMO player (in my mind) from the Midwest U.S. I enjoy getting to know people in games, especially ATITD! I played a bit at the end of T3, most of T4 on Bastet, and I missed 10 months of T6, due to real life. I'm still learning new things, which keeps it exciting!
LadyKaytay: I have been playing here since March. I started playing after something went on in my personal life. ATITD was my getaway for a few hours a day. A few hours a day turned into almost all day lol. This isn't the first time I've played I believed I played T1 like 8 or so years ago with my stepdad. I like how ATITD is a family. And although you a working against each other to pass tests you are really working together as a family :) There is always something to do here in egypt and I learn new things everyday.

SECOND QUESTION: If you win this election you will pass the test of the Demi-Pharaoh and be our 27th DP of this tale. There are a variety of points of view on what the role of DP should and shouldn't be, what is yours?

Lenala: I think the DP should be an approachable, helpful player that happens to have seven bansticks to carry around. They should be able to step into any dispute and be completely neutral, and admit they need to let someone else handle things if it happens to involve themselves. First and foremost, they should remain a player. (But as I said, a helpful and approachable one.)
LadyKaytay: DP in my opinion should be someone that all of Egypt can turn to for help or guidence. They should be familiar with conflict management and resolution.

THIRD QUESTION: How would you handle it, as DP, if you were involved in an interpersonal conflict with another player? On a related note, how would you handle it if a close personal friend or guildmate made a complaint, or had a complaint made against them, and were seeking your intervention as DP and possibly a ban?

Lenala: I believe it's the DP's job to be as neutral as possible and think like a Jedi. If you can't solve an Egyptian problem that you yourself as a DP are involved in, you should definitely seek out another DP for help. Just because you have the position doesn't mean you shouldn't defer to others! If a close, personal friend made a complaint seeking a ban, you have to take a step back and see it from both sides. If you can't remain neutral as a DP, you likely shouldn't be one.
LadyKaytay: If I was personally involved in a conflict with another player or if a close friend of mine was involved I would keep myself inpartial and hand it over to someone else who is qualified in conflict resolution .

FOURTH QUESTION It's late in the tale and things have been quiet for some time; we're gradually hemorrhaging players. How are you planning to provide leadership to the game and foster activity among the playerbase, or is that not a task for a Demipharoh to concern herself with?

Lenala: As a DP you should be visible to new players and help them understand the mechanics and the scope of the world. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to force the final tests to appear or the game to move on to Tale Seven. I would be willing to help with any player events or activities to foster interest and keep people here and interested.
LadyKaytay: I myself have never seen a tale end or beginning...I am really excited and hope to spread that excitment to others with hopes of the players coming together in he next tale to start all over together :)

FIFTH QUESTION: Under what circumstances would you consider utilizing the tools created by the (AGA) law? What do you consider 'griefing'? Do you feel the AGA has been used well so far?

Lenala: I was here and witnessed He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named in action, twice. The AGA is a necessity, I think. As far as I've seen it's only been used as it should. Griefing, to me, is purposefully trying to ruin another player's enjoyment of the game by exploiting the mechanics of the world or the rules. But, as we all know, most of Egypt is about conflict, so it has to be blatant, (i.e. the wood plane fiasco).
LadyKaytay: I would consider Griefing to be someone who constantly does "harm" to Egypt. I have read a bit on some of past players who have been banned and what they did to cause themselves to be banned. Egypt isn't a place to come to and act like a fool and ruin the peace among players.

SIXTH QUESTION: What is your reaction to the Sphinx affair?--Anonymous

GHawkins: SIXTH QUESTION anonymous.
GHawkins: I hate to say it, but the tale has NOT been totally quiet lately, someone salvaged the Lesser Sphinx in River Plains. It got rebuilt in a few weeks, but to think that ANYONE would salvage our sphinx is ludicrous. If you had been DP at the time, what steps would you have taken and what steps do you think need to be taken now?
Lenala: Being that tearing something down leaves no traces of a name, I don't honestly know what could have been done unless someone witnessed the salvage. I don't believe I was here for that event, but if people witnessed it, and they all had the same story to tell, I would definitely find any other DP's I could and discuss a ban for that. It is ridiculous that someone would salvage a Lesser Sphinx.
LadyKaytay: A DP, Just as a investigator would, should look into all the details of what might have happened. If the player knew what they were doing or if it was true and accident. From what I heard the salvage of the Sphinx was purely accident and the player was horrified. I myself, like I said earlier am still learning things about Egypt, and did not even know what the Lesser Sphinx was until my 3rd or so month here. I would jump to any conclusion and try to collect evidence and knowledge of the whole situation.
LadyKaytay: wouldn't*

SEVENTH QUESTION: The AGA is one power that the DPs have in their toolkit, what other powers would you like to see DPs hold, in the interests of improving game play?

Lenala: I've always thought that DP's should have the ability to teleport to a reported griefer. I'm sure we all remember poor kuupid trying to chase down You-Know-Who early on. I've also been of the opinion that DP's should have the ability to 'clean up' after a griefer, such as removing wood planes, flax beds and the like, that have been purposefully placed around someone's CP to prevent expansion. Otherwise, I think having seven bans is enough power for a player to have. (But the teleport and griefer building removal have always been dreams of mine.)
LadyKaytay: As DP's can be any player I am not sure I would extend the power too much. Maybe the ability to teleport to a player who is in need of help. I also had a situation where something I built that If I tore down would be lost forever was in the wrong spot ( As I moved my camp) and had to ask a GM if they could move it. I think it would be a good idea If a DP could do the same thing. I think that would also help with situations as the one in the past with a previous player who name goes unmentioned(Referring to the removal of buildings)

EIGHTH QUESTION: Does anyone have access to login to your account? (i.e., would any person other than yourself ever have access to your ban powers)? Note: spouselog does not allow access to ban powers.

LadyKaytay: Nope
Lenala: No, not unless they break into my home, find my PC, know my Windows login password, and somehow figure out my game password. I find this unlikely. :)
LadyKaytay: that would be a series of unfortunate events!

NINTH QUESTION: Have you played ATITD under other names in this tale or past ones, and if so, what were the names you played under?

Lenala: I've always been Lenala, and my 2nd account just for this tale, Dylanna. Yes, I married myself, lots of people do!
LadyKaytay: I believe my old character in T1 was Qutechic or Qutechic_89 Something like that...I also have an Alt that was my late stepfathers log in in the same tale named Kmanleaf

TENTH QUESTION: When you come across a large camp eligible for DPAing, what do you do? What if there are more people there than just you waiting for the timer to click over allowing ownership?

Lenala: I leave it alone, unless it's a guildmate's or a close friends camp. Then I will try to claim it just to save it for them.
LadyKaytay: I can see where this might cause a conflict between players. I recently myself DPA'd a camp and made it a guild camp with others. Although it was someone I knew, I didn't tear it down and if someone were to come forward with concern then I wouldn't mind coming to some sort of agreement.
LadyKaytay: wasn't someone i knew*

ELEVENTH QUESTION: If the general consensus of the rest of the DPs were that that person should not be banned, but you felt strongly that they should, what would you do?

Lenala: If the question is would I bring up my point of view, then yes I would. Would I use the ban? Absolutely not. A consensus of DP's are wiser than just I on my own. :)
LadyKaytay: I would calmly outline important points as to why they should be banned and try to convince then that they would most likely try to repeat their actions
LadyKaytay: if they still did not agree than majority rules.

CANDIDATE STATEMENT: We're running about an hour, so I would like each of you to wrap up now and tell Egypt what they will get in a DP by voting for you. And if you do indeed want them to vote for you, please include why you would like them to.

Lenala: You'd get a visible, approachable, doing my best to be helpful person. I wouldn't change my play just because I became a DP. I play often, so I should be easy to find, and no one should be worried to open a chat window. I would appreciate any votes, they mean a lot coming from my fellow Egyptians, win or lose!
LadyKaytay: If you vote for me you are getting someone who loves Egypt and would love to see it grow and be a second family to all. I am always available to help players when needed and enjoy it. I would like you to vote for me because although being a DP is more serious than passing a test, it is also a test. If I pass DP i have one more test to pass to make Oracle of Lead and that would be a huge accomplishment for me that would in turn carry over to next tale. And if you feel I am not right for Egypt then Lenala is a great candidate as well and would do a great job:) Good night Egypt :)

GHawkins: This is actually really early in the election cycle to be hosting a debate, and I'd like to thank both LadyKaytay and Lenala for being available so readily. If you have any further questions for the candidates, please get in touch with me and I'll solicit a response from the candidates to add it to the debate log.
GHawkins: Thank you for tuning in. I'll take this moment to remind Egypt that we've recently had a DP election decided by just a single vote, so your vote DOES count!
